Hoss Cartwright vs Arnie 'The Ape' Guthrie
Arnie is a lonely man with big muscles, a little brain and an ugly face.
He is friendly by nature, but when somebody jeers at him and calls him
an ape, he becomes mad. Then he is very dangerous. Most people avoid
Arnie, but Hoss recognizes something of his own nature in Arnie and
wants to help him. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
When I was a young boy..some time in the mid 1960s my parents took me to six gun territory in Florida. Dan blocker (Hoss) was there and stuck his hand out to shake my hand and said " Hello little buddy ". He had bright eyes and seemed like a really sincere person. I shook his hand. He was a big man and his hand was the size of a 10 pound ham. That is a fond memory from my life .
Greatest story I heard about Dan Blocker came from Michael Landon; Dan once fell off a horse and broke his collarbone so badly the bone was sticking out. Rather than going to a hospital, he told one of the stuntmen to just push the bone back in. He did, and Dan said “DAMN! Feels better than before I broke it!”
Can't top those two stories.. but I met Bob" Gilligan" Denver.. he crossed a highway to buy cigarettes at a Little Champ Store, 5 of us kids were there on our Bikes.. We Hollowed GILLIGAN!!! and he came over to us, shook our hands and said he would tell the Skipper " Hi " from all of us!
He got Marlboro Cigarettes and crossed the Highway going back to The Alhambra Dinner Theater..
Years later, Us kids started smoking Marlboros!
@@carvinlambert6899 Hope you've kicked the habit by now?

Yes I did. 45 years back.🖒
@@carvinlambert6899 Good for you! I smoked from aged 20 - having lost my late father to lung cancer (he was a lifetime smoker) till I was 39. I'm 64 now. 😁
Don Blocker and Cal Bolder both received Purple Hearts for their actions during the Korean War. Two great men.
It's Dan Blocker not Don.
Good thing they were never swift-boated_________________________|
@@cadaverdog1424 what are you trying to say?
In all these Bonanza fights, the stuntmen taking tumbles in long shots look nothing like the actors.
Purple heart awarded, wounded in action. But Dan Blocker wasn't a strong man. During the 1963 Mr. Western America contest in Los Angeles he was challenged by Western actor Bill Smith to Armwrestle for the Hollywood Armwrestling championship, he never showed his face.
Hoss "What are we fighting for" Arnie "I don't know" then Hoss laughs priceless.
This has to one of my favorite Bonanza episodes, especially because of this fight! It was good to see Hoss find a "Playmate" he could go toe to toe with on equeal footing.
I LAUGHED SO MUCH. THIS WAS SO HILARIOUS. If they kept fighting, there would not be a Virginia City
I loved the infrequent episodes when Hoss got to kick butt. Nice to see a young Leonard Nimoy...
Arnie looks like someone who could've been The Ultimate Warrior's father.
RIP US Marine Cal Bolder (1931-2005) who also was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a policeman before his acting career & a novelist. He made two appearances on Bonanza, one in Star Trek, Gunsmoke, Daniel Boone & a few in The Man From UNCLE, as well as, several other series.
Wait, Cal Bolder was in Star Trek?
The Circle is Complete!
[And thank you for that detail!!!]
@@Neilistic1001 - In the original Star Trek series -- he was Keel, in the episode Friday's Child (1967).
@@Neilistic1001 - I may add -- because Leonard Nimoy was in that Bonanza episode in 1960 with Cal -- that Nimoy may have become friends with him & remembered Cal 7 years later.
I think Nimoy played a role in getting Cal a guest spot in Star Trek.
I never realized he was in Friday's Child. Thanks,I'll have to re-watch that episode.
I heard that when he was a CHIP that he pulled over some Hollywood type who liked what he saw and arranged for Arnie to do some screen tests, etc. Big freakin' dude.
Glad to see Spock enjoying himself in the Holodeck.
The holodeck had not been invited in Spock’s time. The most likely scenario is the Enterprise was caught in a wormhole and caused him to go back in time. He, Kirk, Scotty and McCoy are trying to get the ship back to their time, or something!🖖🏻
@@afterburner2869 perhaps but I believe that holodeck technology was just in it's infancy during the 2250s. Who knows 🖖

Dan Blocker was actually known for being immensely strong in real life.
I like when he was in "Lady in Cement". Frank Sinatra shoots him with a small caliber pistol and he says, you better get a bigger gun than that.
@@j.dragon651 , I loved hearing about him hiding a small transistor radio under his ten gallon hat to listen to while waiting to shoot scenes. Apparently, radios on set were expressly forbidden. One of his co-stars talked about that.

Sooooo classically funny. Look at Hosse's stunt double in the fight outside the bar. His hair is grey. Hosse's hair was blonde.

They were made in america lmao
3:25 She really knows how to stroke that wood.
Right? That was a less than subtle signal from early Hollywood about a woman getting turned on.
When I saw that scene I had to laugh, there's no way a TV show or movie today would have a scene like that unless it was a porno movie.
Must have gone right over the censors' heads. As puritanical as they were then, I doubt they would have allowed it if they'd caught it.
She may have a big mouth, but she's got a gorgeous body!
I was thinking the same thing. She was turned on by the whole spectacle.
I like the way that gal was rubbing up a woody there. I had the sound off and could still read his lips when he said "why did she say that about me?"
No way those two could fight that long.

Leonard Nimoy decided he didn't want that beer or the company!
Crazy crazy simple insight here when Hoss says " What are we fighting about, do you know"? & the other guy agrees he doesn't really know either. Peace between countries can sometimes be made this way...if you keep the superpowers out of the mix

One of the best things about most of the old TV shows is there was a lesson involved in the storyline. Having looked through nearly all of the comments, it seems no one was either able to grasp this one or wasn't looking for one.

Like the way the 'bar girl' lightly caresses the post at 03.25 at this display of testosterone. Hmmm, this subtlety got through the censors pretty well...
Spotted that too. The over-acting in these old shows is pretty laughable now. Today, if a woman acted that way toward somebody, I’m not sure the other guys would be so quick to defend her. She was pretty much a biache to the poor lunkhead.
She had a sudden case of WAP
Sad to see that they couldn't find a stunt-double who looked a lot more like Hoss. But this was a good video.
It looked good on our 14 inch black and white TV.

Dan Blocker was a power house in real life also. The Ape was no play toy either.
True
Just like the Thing fighting the Incredible Hulk. The only advantage the Hulk was his uncontrollable raging strength over the Thing. More angrier the Hulk gets, the stronger he becomes.
Blocker was a football player and a war veteran. He was the real deal and would have been a beast in a fight.
Cal Bolder was also the real deal and served in the marines in Korea.
One of my favorite Bonanza Episodes along with "Enter Thomas Bowers" and the episode with Robert Culp. Looks like Boulder was also a bodybuilder. I can only watch the episodes with Adam. Its like watching Good Times when the patriarch goes away.
Tables, wagons and chairs weren't made worth a hoot back then!
What a great fight scene!!
Wana fight
Poor Hoss was just going for a nice leisurely walk…
Love it. TIMMY RAY FROM FT WORTH TEXAS SAYS HI. 🤠👍🏎
Of all the episodes of Bonanza this is my favorite one. Cal Bolder really had a great part and did the character justice. Just wish Hollywood did have problems with big bodybuilding types. It took Arnold Schwarzenegger to change that for that body type. Cal Bolder might have had more great roles that didn't need just a big guy. He was a good actor. Hollywood at that time was never fair to bodybuilders. Glad times has changed a little since then. Still a great video. Thanks for putting this video out.
Spock could have just used his Vulcan skills with his put you to sleep collar bone nerve grab trick

Typical of a broad to be the cause of a fight then just stand back and watch the fireworks.
That is funny but true in other ways .My wife was a ( still is ) a absolute beauty. She was brought up with impeccable manners and would not ignore anyone .When we went out in courting days I only had to leave her to get a drink at the bar and some guy would sidle up and get her in conversation.I would come back with the drinks and most of the time guys would walk away and go ( but not always ) I used to say to her don't you realise they are trying to pick you up .She would say Oh no he was just chatting and being friendly.
Reminds me of the doctor Hook song ,when you are in love with a beautiful woman .lol
If two big people actually hit each other like that, they'd be dead well before this one ended.
