Lamont is a brilliant storyteller who speaks concisely with compassion, care, and dignity for the forgotten, the dead. The stories are heartbreaking and some have tragic and disturbing details. There’s many variations in the types of people’s history, and the stories of people’s lives who died from extenuating circumstances that were in many cases murdered, tortured, sexually assaulted, and killed under mysterious circumstances and some family members never got closure, and some who never got justice. Some murderers were let go because of circumstantial evidence and not found guilty or released from prison early. Some murders were unsolved; became cold cases.

This one gutted me as I was so much like Marlene, in so many ways. At 50 I grew up in the time just before internet, raised by my grandparents, so I have a pretty good idea of what her world was like. Putting myself in that car, I can see one of two things happening:
Either A. (most likely) Arthur was lying and the situation got out of control because he hadn't suspected Marlene was a fighter, and his well-off parents covered it up for him. The 'respectable' pissing on the 'expendable' is usually the Occam's Razor explanation.
OR B. (less likely but still possible) Arthur was telling the truth but either no one would give her a ride home from the dance hall -- or she was too embarrassed to ask, seeing these people as her future peers. She could have died pretty quickly of exposure especially if she wasn't used to the alcohol no one mentions she was drinking.
I played a lot of cards in my youth. There was alcohol, every single time.
However no one claimed to have seen her at the dance hall. If she was *ever* there, it's possible that one person did see her -- the wrong person. She was a young girl, possibly intoxicated and in some dire need of assistance at what amounts to a bar.
Perhaps a staff member clearing out the trash saw her. "I'll give you a ride. You can wait back here until I close the bar." And then she was later left in the snow.

Really? John Harvey is the last person to see her alive and the guy who drove her to her home and he changes his account of the events and is not charged for her murder? First of all, if anyone who was with someone who went missing and then found murdered and then their story changes is definitely guilty. It's not that hard to see what truly happend to her. I doubt she took harvey to the side and asked him to take her home after dropping off the boyfriend, after that then told harvey to take her to meet up with this other man and then she just has him take her to another club / dance club. He probably had after dropping off her boyfriend, either stop and parked on the side of the road or some rest stop and tried asking to have sex with her, she said no and probably that he was a creep and that she was going to inform her parents / the police or his father who owned the store, he became enraged and most likely sexually assaulted her and then probably strangled her to death.

Someone knows the answer and after all this time…he’s probably met the one that does. You WILL always answer to your secrets. I would rather answer here and straighten things out with God than to hold it to the end….and then have to answer. Thanks Lamont for another great video but a sad and tragic story. Your the best at this! You give real respect for those gone before us. Be safe out there and God bless

I'm sure there were a lot of murders that happened back then that went unsolved, they didn't have the technology or resouces we have today! I have to wonder if maybe they didn't get into some kind of argument, and she got out of the car and wondered away becoming confused by hypothermia and passed out eventually freezing to death, whatever happened it's sad that her parents never got the closure they needed.

Kind of the same situation with the Marilyn Sheppard case from bay village - can't forget little Amy mahalovic (not sure on the spelling of her last name)
Both are heartbreaking deaths that are still unsolved.

When I check findagrave it shows no information for the mother.....just her dad's name. Shows nothing on her site either. Just her dad. Article on her site shows they don't know where the mother went nor her siblings. Interesting. I found on same site arthur charles scott jr died in 2021. He had a son arthur charles scott the third who passed away in 2017.

I moved out of Cedarrapids. My son was murdered . It use to be a awesome place to live . It is a shit hole now. Drugs. Murders and corrupt cop's. Not to mention businesses are constantly closing there doors. My child and gma and friend are buried there in Cedar murmorial cemetery off of first Ave. Very expensive to bury a person there.

Back in those days it was so much easier to lie about your age. A uncle of mine lied about his age back then to join the military and by the time my uncle was caught he then was legally old enough to be in the military. My uncle used another one of his brothers social security number(or whatever it was called back then) They didn’t have background checks available at your fingertips like they do nowadays. There was no central database to confirm age or social security numbers.Shoot in the early 2000’s it still took a week or more for employers to receive background checks. Dial up internet was the big thing in early 2000’s and not many households had that in early 2000’s.

Lamont you’re a brilliant storyteller who speaks concisely with compassion, care, and dignity for the forgotten, the dead. Some of the stories of people’s lives are heartbreaking, and some have tragic and disturbing details. I appreciate your dedication and compassion. There’s many variations in people’s history, and how they lived their lives and how they died from extenuating circumstances that were in many cases caused by murder, some were tortured, sexually assaulted, and some killed under mysterious circumstances. Some family members never got closure, and some never got justice. Some murderers were let go because of circumstantial evidence and not found guilty or released from prison early. Some murders were unsolved; became cold cases.
