  • e pronunciation in British English is VERY similar to æ pronunciation.
Don't confuse 'sex' pronunciation with 'sax' pronunciation by mixing up THESE 2 sounds!
    WATCH THIS NEXT:
Do THIS for clear e Pronunciation in British English:
    1. Make it a short vowel sound - not a long vowel sound.
    2. Make your lips wide enough (so it doesn't sound like the British schwa)
    3. Put the tip of your tongue behind your bottom teeth (if you don't put your tongue here, it will sound like ʌ pronunciation)
    4. IMPORTANT - The height of your jaw: There should be enough space for between 1 and 1.5 fingers in between your teeth.
    For British æ pronunciation:
    1. Make it a short vowel sound - not a long vowel sound.
    2. Make your lips wide enough (so it doesn't sound like the British schwa)
    3. Put the tip of your tongue behind your bottom teeth (if you don't put your tongue here, it will sound like ʌ pronunciation)
    4. IMPORTANT - The height of your jaw: There should be enough space for between 1.5 and 2 fingers in between your teeth. This is the IMPORTANT difference between the British æ pronunciation, and the e pronunciation in British English.

Hello Michael! This video is so much helpful!! 💖Finally I can see the difference between ae and e because I'm Spanish native speaker and we only have one sound by vowell. You really explain to us how to make a sound. A lot of teacher (in classic English class) or in CZcams only made you to repeat ten times and when you are an adult you always do it wrong. I only see Arnel's Everyday English for grammar and you for phonetics. ❤Big hug from Argentina!!

Thank you for making a dedicated video on the æ and e sounds! I've been speaking English my entire life yet I've never gotten these right. The detailed explanations about how the mouth and tongue moves is especially helpful.

i am from india , i am very happy after finding your classes in youtube, really very useful ,the best thing about your teaching is your are doing as much as you can to make it very clear and clean to the people who want to learn or master the pronounciation , my small suggestion to you is if possible to you , make the the pronounciation rules ( which sound will occure in which senario, for example as mentioned in cambridge pronounciation dictionary)
