  • In this video you will learn how to pronounce the /æ/ sound in British English. I also also compare the /æ/ and /e/ sounds, so you will learn the difference between words like "mat" and "met", "bad" and "bet", etc. We'll look at the sound in isolation, then in words, and then in sentences.

      Não sei se você é brasileiro, mas se for o caso realmente fica mais perceptível para nós no sotaque britânico, pois as vogais parecem mais claras. No inglês estadunidense eles parecem "relaxar" mais, o que dificulta a percepção.

    Hi Emma, regarding words ending with the diphthong ae, I've noticed in recent years of politicians, rather than pronounce China ending with 'uh', they are pronouncing it as Chin(ae). Especially Donald Trump who emphasised this very strongly. I could be wrong but I think Chinese people already to pronounce it this way. Maybe it could be the same for India but I wouldn't know.

    Hi Emma, Happy New Year 2021. Thanks for your explanation about these sounds. It’s amazing.
    Could I ask you about how to pronounce ‘Apple’ and ‘Better’ correctly as a consonant sound between 2 short vowel sounds in the middle of a word?
    I have been feeling confused about the skill of how to pronounce these words correctly.
    Apple - æp.əl
    I’m not sure if we hold the sound p for the first Vowel - ‘æ’ and release the rest of the exploded sound of p for the L(əl) sound like some skills from connected speeches? Or we pronounce vowel æ and the sound Ple(pəl) separately? Because the short vowel æ is too short that I can’t identify the difference (æp pəl or æ pəl)?
    And “Better - bet.ə” sound t, which is an exploded consonant sound between 2 short vowels. Is it bet-tə (hold the first part of t for the first vowel ‘e’ and release the rest for the next vowel ‘ə’)? Or pronounce be-tə (be-very short vowel sound e and pronounce tə separately)?
    Looking forward to hearing from you😊

    • @Pronunciationwithemma
      @Pronunciationwithemma  Před 3 lety

      it's easier to release a plosive with a vowel after it, so say it like "a - pul" and "be - ta"
      Hope that helps! :)

      @leeron2335 Před 3 lety

      @@Pronunciationwithemma
      Hi Emma, thanks for your reply and information.
      Based on your explanation,
      Apple [pronounce a complete short vowel sound A and then the full sound of Pul, rather than Ap(half p) + Pul(half p)] and,
      Better [pronounce a combination of Be and then the full sound of Ta, rather than Bet(half t) + Ta(half t).
      Am I correct? 😊
