I have tried to contact the songwriters to get permission to cover this song. A minor word change and we wanted to do it for our youth group at church. I have two albums by this group and love them.
the 80's chewed alot of bands up, and spit them out. told them to do something they weren't used to, then ignore them when zero advertising and shoestring budgets didn't place them high enough in the charts.
I wish youtube let you reply to old comments. The Units were about to break up here, but WorshipDarkWave's comments are disgraceful. Units practically invented all the bands that guy probably listens to
They had pop potential, the husband and wife that fronted the band were a good duo. The style reached saturation and they basically fell through the cracks.
Stefan - "This video has everything; 80s gym class teens, fake punk rockers, vaudeville break dancers, black guys who can't dance, awkward vampires, patty cake dopes, and that one girl dancing like she wishes she was at a Duran Duran concert instead."
Does anyone know if A new way to move is available in a digital format? I have everything they have ever done except that. I’m a huge fan and would love to add that to my collection. Many thanks!! 👍
Even their first material was second rate Devo, honestly. They strived and even in the beginning they just weren't that bad but never good as their reputation suggests
The saddest thing about this entire video is just how far up their own arses the Epic major label execs and A&R people had their headz. Look at the money invested in the high school students, the choreography, all of it looks like they hired the extras from FlashDance and paid big video editing bucks for a record that ultimately, flopped on its hind end....good thing Epic had Michael Jackson to make up the sales difference.
This is the first I have ever seen of a Units Video and My God, Risner looks like the love child of Howard Jones and Thomas Dolby with a little Richie Cunnilingusham thrown in for good measure...and that Madonna-Be singer he seems to limp leg his way to a frozen frame with makes the girls from the B52's and Book of Love look like Vogue models
Now that's what I call a Good Song.... but an awful video!! If we got rid of the High School, it would be cool. - Johnny love-ly j-boi swagg (c) 2016 all rights reserved do not copy comment without permission. ™
Hate to say it but 2nd rate Devo-- at best. Devo had a bunch of records out before the band even started. Not to mention bands like Chi-Pig & the Waitresses
this band by this point were a shadow of themselves - this is one of their worst efforts and people should look at their early material which was groundbreaking and not judge them on this awful song and video
So, THIS EXPLAINS what was wrong with the SF music scene in 1983...too many bath houses mixed with moby dick and Interferon to ever let real creativity get in the way...thank god the tech boon saved that miserable city cause its musical output and creative output certainly did NOT. I mean, Huey Lewis & the News, Journey and The Units? Give me a fucking break.....
the units circa 1979- 1981 were as good as any synth punk band at that time- as good as Devo Cabaret Voltaire etc- this song is awful and no way represents this band -I ll agree by 1983 they had lost the plot
Just for the record, San Francisco was a hugely creative city in the '80s. Ignoring the odd comment about bathhouses and Interferon and just looking at the music scene of the 1980's (not even mentioning the 60's, 70's, and the 90's, In the 1980's only, you missed just a few well-known names of musicians associated with San Francisco (Either from here, moved here, or established themselves first here). Here is a partial list: Dead Kennedys, The Avengers, The Nuns, Romeo Void, The Mutants, The Offs, The Dils, Frightwig, Sylvester, The Contractions, Noh Mercy, The Maggots, The Dicks, Pearl Harbor and the Explosions, C2D, Chris Isaak, Concrete Blonde, 4 Non-Blondes, Flipper, Green Day, Faith No More, Santana, The Pointer Sisters, Sly, and the Family Stone, The Flamin Groovies, Jefferson Starship, The Residents, Tuxedo Moon, Third Eye Blind, Steve Miller, Tower of Power, Ty Segall, Metallica, Voice Farm, The Tubes, Journey, Sammy Hagar, Sheila E, Eddy Money, Smashmouth, Stevie Nicks, The Call, The Doobie Brothers, Lindsey Buckingham, Pablo Cruise, Tupac Shakur, Montrose, Camper Van Beethoven, MC Hammer, The Donnas, Moby Grape. Give me a fucking break
Here they were having a stab at pop music to sell more records, watering down their art and failing completely. This stuff was not their cup of tea.Boring song definitely.Blancmange were much better at cooking poppish electronic tunes
I am actually one of the kids dancing around in the background. This was shot at Tamalpais High School, Mill Valley California. Must have been 1981.
+Andrew Huston Screenshot of you in the video with your yearbook picture attached please :)
I’m so happy that this video is still avail... I had so much fun doing this video!!! I will forever be a unit..
Same here. I was the dork with the basketball. Those short shorts.
My greatest fear is suggesting Units to a friend and them picking this as the first thing they ever hear from them.
Miles away from their early synth/punk experiments....but still mint!
Happy Birthday, Scott!! 😀
wow they got really slick-sounding towards the end of their career!!
this song is GREAT. What is everyone talking about?

You can just purchase song cover mechanical permission from a music distribution setvice like Ditto or Amuse.
Much thanks.@@Canderson_Beats

AmericaTheEngravy sauce. You knew them?
Oh go that is me dancing the taller one!

Yeah he's bloody harsh about it actually! It's fun and catchy what more do you want?
As a gen z kid this is actually a bop
I'm 55 and this sounded like the future back in the day. Baumann. Exploding Parakeet. Gary Numan. POlyrock. Sadly, the new wave died too quick...
Yes it's not as experimental but I still bop to it!

good one. hi mom

woot
Great direction
This looks like a bad Saturday Night Live skit; I kept waiting for Will Ferrell to show up.
Go look at the playlists - I think they're trolling us.
VEVO MAKES EVERYTHING WORSE. See what it has done to the Units.
A young Illeana Douglas on vocals?
Even their first material was second rate Devo, honestly. They strived and even in the beginning they just weren't that bad but never good as their reputation suggests
This is no digital stimulation. I liked 'em better when they sounded more like Devo, this sounds way too post-84
music is my porn
youtube is my pornsite
VEVO is my mom walking in

Tbh it's so bad I kinda like it
Anyone notice that one of the two dancers featured in the spotlight section does the moonwalk? Isn’t this pre Michael Jackson?
Yes, it is. But MJ just made moonwalk popular. He didn’t invent it
No very post Michael Jackson

Compare this to one of their older works like “I-Night” and you’ll see how shitty this is in comparison

A sad departure from their roots that ended in them being taking the Oblivion express. This is just pure shit.
this band by this point were a shadow of themselves - this is one of their worst efforts and people should look at their early material which was groundbreaking and not judge them on this awful song and video
Disagree yes the video is terrible but this is a good song their early music from digital stimulation is amazing but this is a good song

they worst effort
Barbie Chêtif. Is it safe to say this is the very textbook definition of when a band sells out?
