I met a girl who'd lived all her life in Sheffield - unbelievably, she'd never heard of them...........thank the stars we still have 20-odd years' worth of brilliant music to enjoy. When I see the rubbish that regularly appears on the 'Later' show (Tift Merritt excepted) and that BBC Freeview 601 TV channel, it drives me straight back to my Comsats record collection.......I wish the guys well in their post-Comsats endeavours..........

It was a niche hit in the early 80s in Montreal, Canada, where there’s always been a taste for music out of Europe. This song stayed on top of the local alternative/New Wave charts for months, possibly a year IIRC. Probably 1982-83ish. Then again, “alternative radio” back then was limited to one AM station that played this music one night per week (CBMT-AM).
The song is magnificent and I wish some film maker would bring it back on a soundtrack.

My God, (as a 16yo)in the early 80s.......................that must make us contemporaries, approximately. And, with shite-striking-coincidental-path-crossing-voodoo........I took my then girlfriend, (current attachment excused), to see "U2" at the "Top Rank Suite" Brighton England. And, unbeknownst, at time of ticket purchase, the "Comsats" were the supporting act. And, fucking splendid they were too, sir. My recollection is that Mik Glaisher came on wearing a camouflaged headband, waving his drumsticks like a warrior. Stephen Fellows had some banter with a member of the crowd over some issue.....he said, .."I'm trying to play a gig or show here.." I don't know what or why they said what they did. My gig recollection is shit. I was there for "U2" with my girl.........this was 1980.....drinks and noise...bed and sex later.......work in the morning. Trust ? thanks.

OMG I was 19 and AT UEA from 1983 and over three years saw 200+ amazing gigs with local bands and also pretty much everything I could - from early Smiths supported by the Red Guitars who were BETTER than the Smiths, and so everyone screamed for Red Guitars to come back on stage and Morrissey had a strop and a hissy fit and threw gladioli at the audience in a fury, saw Judie Tzuke, Level 42, Tanita Tikaram, Siouxsie & the Banshees - she'd broken her leg the week before and did her amazing set hobbling on a stick and sitting down and still was amazing - Wish I'd kept all my tickets and a diary of all the wonderful bands ... now 40 years later most of it is a blurry memory hole ...

I heard that if Kevin Bacon from the Comsats ever shook hands with Kevin Bacon the actor, the world would end.

I totally agree with you. They played twice in the place I live, in Vaals (NL). In former days the concert-hall they played (like many, many bands ... mostly alternative, not mainstream) was called "Spuugh", nowadays the name has been turned into "Fraiche". I grew up in the end '70's/beginning '80's in the wave-period. The first time I discovered The Comsat Angels was in 1993, when they played the second time in Vaals. A little late ..... but not to late to fell in love with.

Well, this was their biggest hit ever, and charted at 71# in the UK charts, OMD had several top 10 worldwide hits, Architecture and Morality was a 5 million seller, and Enola Gay, Maid of Orleans, Souvenir, (Forever) Live and Die still are played in every 'golden oldies' radio station. Comsat Angels don´t exist for mainstream radio/tv (at least in Spain).

A Comsat Angels music video?? From VH1 classic? I tune into that channel regularly and never see this band. Very sweet, though!
