I don't know about you, but I think that backup singer has potential.
Back in around 1985/6, she turned me down for a date after a gig at Moray House in Edinburgh. She was so sweet about it, I almost felt that I'd scored.
@@nookiebroon4424 Love your honesty nookie. Many a man woulda turned that into a 3 part porn story
i CAN'T find this mp3 anywhere, would anybody be so kind to send me an E-MAIL with this MP3??? here's my email: robertorumbos@hotmail.com pleaseeeeeeeee
Totally under appreciated band back in the day all the way up to the present 🤯🙈🤯
What a great band they were. Saw them live in Glasgow late 80's / early 90's. Absolutely loved this song... and wee Shirley - what a voice ...
Shirley's destiny came early on. They couldn't take the camera off her. Good keyboard player to boot. Nobody realized she was much more.
Thank you Mr. Bonehead. Misinterpreting every generalized statement as literal must be one of your strong points. So please don't pass on any of your genetic material and humanity will be safe once again.
@@badmotorcycle1415 who u talking to???? You're replying to yourself mate lol🤪😬🙄
I know this comment is 4 years old but they kinda did realise she was much more. When the whole band was dropped by their record label for wasting all their money on drugs, the record label specifically did not drop Shirley as they really believed in her. That’s how the band Angelfish was formed, she formed her own band with her as the lead singer, and brought all these same guys into her own band to work around them being dropped the record label and keep them all surviving.
Blew the roof of Govan Town Hall in 89 . Great days for Scottish bands.
Right when this song and the video were released, Siouxsie Sioux was on a music TV show (in July 1988), and she said she really liked the "look" of the "backup singer" for the band. She meant Shirley Manson, and it's kind of ironic because Shirley has said how influenced she was by Siouxsie as a singer.
That's what brought me here, nice connection. czcams.com/video/BMrCqLnzZds/video.html
@@hidefmatt I loved catching that when I saw the show here on CZcams. I wonder if Shirley saw it at the time.
Brilliant in the 80's and Shirley from local to global, rauchus classic attitude 👍
I never thought I'd ever see an 80's side to Shirley Manson👍👍👍awesome as HELL as usual
It's so freaking weird seeing Shirley Manson singing in a 80's band after being so used to seeing her in Garbage, the GLORIOUS 90's, she looks so freaking cute and adorable In this video, she's very camera friendly, they could keep the entire camera on her for the entire video and I wouldn't mind it a bit, playing that awesome tambourine, an instrument that you don't see anymore, or hardly any instruments anymore for that matter, it's like the perfect instrument for her
And to see her go on to the GREATEST MOST UNDERRATED GROUP OF ALL TIME, GARBAGE, it's just really awesome to see how far she came🤟🤟🤟👍👍👍LONG LIVE GARBAGE THE GREATEST UNDERRATED GROUP IN HISTORY OF MUSIC🤟🤟🤟
This track was on MTV just before the Berlin Wall Fall. Cult track ;).
One of the most Criminally UNDERRATED and absolutely BRILLANT TUNAGES....EVER !!!!!
Jerome Lange Couldn't agree more. Played Good deeds and dirty rags over and over.
Honestly, get tested for tone deafness. This is absolute crap. You're embarrassing yourself. "Brilliant tunages", whatever the fuck that is.

@@dillardmcpenishold1956 shut up ya fuckin tit, you're about the only person that doesn't like it, take it you're into boy bands then ? 😑
Saw these guys at Stirling Uni late 80's, I'd love to step into a time machine and see that again, fantastic show. Like all true pop/rock shows at the time, I recall it ending with the guitars feeding back as the band walked off.
Her vocals here were incredible
U can hear Shirley's deep dark tone that would later become garbage trademark.... Hallmark... Sound.... Class.... Her look had changed somewhat since though....
Such a blast from the past. Those harmonies!!!!
The world lost such a talented percussionist!
Someone told me that the backup singer moved to Wisconsin to work in sanitation. Is this true?
Haymarket station during an autumn Saturday afternoon.Waiting, and waiting, and waiting for someone to step back into my life. The walls, the sides of the trains, the stones and - for that matter - the sky were black. And despite the number of people in the station,it was quiet.Bored with waiting I put my headphones on and got rid of some time by listening to this as well as The Cocteaus.(And people wonder why I can't be arsed with modern music!).
I bought this vinyl back in the day and had absolutely no idea until now that Shirley Manson was the backing singer
This was my farewell tune from Aberdeen.
I SURVIVED - YA BASS!!
Where did you move house to? My family is from Dunoon, but we live in the US now. I really miss Glasgow and Scotland in general.
Wow! Shirley truly outshines everybody here. It's almost embarrassing.
Saw Garbage in Leeds this year and Shirley is amazing great voice great stage presence and a great human who takes no shit love her to bits, love garbage best band ever but this is a great tune
GREAT track!!!!!!! Big drums, beautiful harmonies. And has a haunting charm +
It's not often you see a lead singer completely out shown by his backing singer
I think Martin was a great singer; he just didn't go on to enjoy massive international success. But very few do.
se veía desde esa época que Shirley tenía un enorme potencial para ser vocalista principal
Ya sabía el historial musical de Shirley, sabía que estuvo en esta banda, pero nunca me había dado la oportunidad de escucharla y vaya que rolas! están chingonas!
That's always a bad sign when a group has a single with the same name as the group. But LOVE Shirley Manson!
....black sabbath, iron maiden, actually any of the great classic rock and metal bands, all had that and they were often fantastic songs. Band I I in had an instrumental named same as the band. Best thing we ever did honestly, that song was decent.
Bad Company...the band
Bad Company...the album
Bad Company...the song
Worked out for Bad Company.
Uh, no.....................it's RARELY a bad sign. In addition to all the good egs. listed, here's another one: Damn Yankees.
Glad to see this video again after only seeing it played once on MTV. I don't even think it had any semblance of regular rotation play either. It was on one of those late night programs featuring UK bands and I can't remember the VJ host as well. I remember being taken by the red headed girl and didn't realize until a few years ago that it was Shirley LOL
Just seen them on Wednesday 22/5/19 ..... this was great to hear live ..... Atmos in the garage was immense
amazing band!! I discover Goodbye Mr.Mackenzie in ,Spain ,Valencia's music (discos,bars)1988.Underrated band!!
I did not expect to find this video! Thank you!!!
Good to hear Shirley Manson name checking the band last night. From cult bands came greater opportunities... and "The Mackenzies" are a great band.
I just stumbled upon this video. My brother n law is from Glasgow and was in a couple bands. He also mentioned he went to school with Shirley and her sister. One of the bands he was in was called The Mackenzies. I’m very confused. Lol!
He doesn’t talk much about it so I could be wrong about the band name.
Escucho esta cancion todos los dias, es tan ochentera, excelente tono de voz para rock, excelente acompañamiento (shirley) buena bateria y buena fuerza de guitarra......
How did I miss this fabulous upload ... Incredible Band, Amazing Song.
You are absolutely tone deaf. Do you just like everything because you think it makes you cool? Lack of discerning taste makes you a fool.
@@dillardmcpenishold1956 it makes you an even bigger fool wasting your time commenting on some sheisse you don't even like, touch some grass ffs-
My but if it's Shirley Manson, what a surprise
They should have done so much better - such an underrated band. Saw them in Aberdeen many, many years ago !
It's weird they didnt make it big, they were GOOD!!!
But it's okay, Shirley became a goddess of rock a few years later... :)
oh Big John Duncan was in this band and still the same position since he was in Exploited and great this track has it style ...brit sound.
Saw them supporting the Primatives at the Mayfair in Newcastle in 1987
Great band back in my young day , good deeds and dirty rags, classic .
Ich liebe diese Musik! Danke sehr (...) und alles Gute für die Band!
Schade, dass es sie nicht mehr gibt.
Great music
Wow Shirley was and still is gourgous
Wow! This song is excellent! Why doesn't this airplay??
I didn't know Shirley was in any other bands besides Angel Fish & Garbage.
I don't know who all those people, but this band is still in our memories because there's young Shirley the future Superstar))
Whoever cleaned this up.well done
The tambourine player done no bad for hersel eh.;)
She’s an absolute photo magnet …
Big John Duncan (the exploited) on guitar

Ha ! I know, that guitarist is another band, he look like very brutal, that another :)
Is "the exploited" his nickname or was he mistreated badly or something???🤷🏾♂️
They gave that back up singer a tambourine lol
Big John Duncan and the Donut's with Shirley as the Creme Filling !!! 🤟🤟🤟
Big John Duncan - not many can say they played guitar with Nirvana - great live act in the 80s around Scotland
Whenever I hear this i remember getting the start of a kicking on Bridge Street Aberdeen. Half way through it I heard someone shout 'nooo thats not him' and a couple guys lifted me to me feet shook my hand and apologised 😮😂 Great tune ❤ though it always bring up that memory
Shirley is so beautiful!
great song and good effort by the band
cos it's blowing a gale in there.
Very 80's...but this was the 80's. Pretty good though.
This was 1989 and it looks like 1984, people didn't dress like that in 1989 so that was already passé. I have to second Mr McP's opinion of the song, if it wasn't for the presence of the bold Shirley nobody would pay this fucking crap slightest bit of attention
Saw you in Liverpool supporting Deb Harry.
One of my best gigs ever ♥️🥰👏👏👏👏
Late 80s feel
Fascinating to see this now, with Julia Garner (i.e. Ruth from Ozark) on keyboards before she got famous.
Big John(The Exploited and Nirvana's roadie) and Shirley Manson, Angel Fish and Garbage.
Seen them in Troon yesterday,
Was the youngest person in the room and yet 250 50 and 60 year old gave my 19 yer old ass tinnitus
When u have the history like this thank you for it
Great album
Cracking song!
Big John from The Exploited is also in this band beside Shirley
Blimey, they looked and sounded a bit different when I saw them a couple of years prior to this. Living in Carlisle, I had a workmate in a band called New Cottage Industry and they played a gig with GMM somewhere out in the wilds in the Port Carlisle / Burgh By Sands / Anthorn area. It was in a grotty social club on an old airstrip and I remember Shirley being the standout in the band. The other singer in GMM was another lass.
Love Goodbye Mr Mackenzie🤘
GMM are now on twitter and doing shows in may 2019 also check out new band the filthy tongues
Used to see martin cycling on his racer back in the day and big john knocking about here and there great band
good times
That lead guitarist looks like a Video Game bad guy from 1991 came to life
Shirley on tambourine, well I never knew! She was definitely the future of music in this band back in the day.
I wanted to look what Big John was doing after his time in The Exploited.I never expected Shirley Manson. That was really a cool Pop Band.
beauty Shirley!
Always funny that Shirley's early work with GMM and Angelfish were out there in the open and available if you knew about it/had access to a record store with a deep inventory of obscure stuff in the 90s. Whereas Alanis Morrisette (who Shirley is close friends with) went HARD to bury her teenybopper pop records she recorded in Canada to keep them from ever seeing the light of day again once Jagged Little Pill came out.
Shirley tho ❤
I am oldskool - Loved PUNK, LOVED GOODBYE MR MACKENZIE from the beginning. Had all the vinyl - then got burgled. It took well over a year for Hammer & Tongs to come out. I got it in the end - then it got robbed with everything else
I'm here 'cos of Shirley 😃
Fucking amazing band. So underrated so good.
Wee Shirley did ok, Martin, BigJohn, kelly, Fin and wee Rona deserve so much credit for launching her career!
Without them she would be Dust!
That girl playing the tambourine stole show in this video, I wonder if she'd make a good lead singer or front person for a band.
I've got a perfect name for that band: something like Trash or Rubbish, maybe??
Nice!
They made Shirley a doll back in the day although she never wanted to be one. That's why she never had a solo career. She's not a doll.
They played many times in the q m university along side wet wet wet and many other top Scottish bands great nights and cheap beer😂
Lol !!! This is Freaking Hilarious 😂 Well u Gotta Start Somewhere 😎
Oh dear... She looked better in the 90s and 00s.....even back then she had that deep dark contralto tone to her voice
Now imagine Shirley singing the lead for this song for Garbage...
SHIRLEY JOVEM,TAO...VIVA,EXUBERANTE,CONQUISTADORA,SEI LA,TAO PROMISSORA!
Love
J'ai vue ce clip en août 1989 à Berlin Ouest sur MTV, juste avant que le mur tombe. Ce track reste dans ma mémoire. Il me semble que c'est Shirley Manson (GARBAGE) qui fait les backing vocals. Morceau CULTE.
i dunno if this vid is the original cut but if it is, then Shirley must really be the eye candy of the group. inborn charismatic?
Rare sighting of Chris Farley on guitar before he left music for comedy. We miss you Tommy Boy!
Love this album - played it to death on my walkman back in 1990! Whatever happened to that lovely backing singer?
This just came into my feed after seeing "Skipping" vid by The Associates. Coincidence?
Great song. One thing that's bugging me, the lady in pink playing keyboard ( we'll call her unshirley ). Where have I seen her before/since?
This, Thriller, Blue Monday and Money for nothing all have a special place of meaning when i met my first serious girlfriend of 11 years at that time.
