Saving a Baby Swallow

- When I visited a farm I discovered a baby bird on the ground in the dirt. Was it dead? I had no idea. It was right next to a cows leg.
A thanks to 'de Ettingen' and to the farmer there for letting me film in their stables.

@YuffX : Not all birds can afford to have one parent at the nest all the time, quite often both parents have to go out and hunt for food. You can't really blame the parents for having a baby fall out of the nest while the parents weren't there.

I know it seems harsh even brutal but when these birds have 4 and sometimes more hatchlings the nest can get really crowded and sadly the weakest is often bumped out and that's how these little fells end up on the ground ...They have more egg's than they have room for and the last to hatch is usually the first to get bumped ...

When you touch a baby bird and put back into the nest the mother bird will not throw the bird out. It is a misconception that the mother bird will.

Last year I saved and raised a female black bird. Penny visites me often. Whenever she is in my garden or at my windows I call her name and she answer me. She haven't forgot her namen. :)
She also fly to my shoulder or on top of my head. I enjoy this moments very much.
It is good to know that she is fine. It really calms me down.
She was with me for a long time because of her lung disease and could only be released into the wild as an adult.
I've been taking care of birds for a couple of years and I'm glad that they came into my life.
If one of my quail children dies (they are very old), I can hardly stand it.
I think of them every day and stand by their graves. They loved me so as I.
Life ends but not the love that we shared together.

birds cant have or spread rabies, they arent mammals.
Viktorija Vaicek this is myth. A common myth, but a myth all the same. The parents will be afraid for a bit, like what happened here, because they question the security of the nest, but once they are sure all is calm life goes back to normal. What would make them abandon the nest is constantly approaching it after putting the chick back. That would give the parents no ability to think that the nest is safe. Observing is fine. Approaching is not.

I’m 12 years old. I remember one time when I was 6 (I think) I found a sparrow injured. It couldn’t fly ( because it’s wings were injured) and I took him to my house to take care of him. I fed it, gave him some medicine, then when it was ready to fly, I set him free. Not only that, I also saved a baby cat once (with my cousins) we found out that its mother left its alone, so we took it home and took care of it and made him our pet. It stayed with us for some months, then we set it free. That’s it. Oh and hope u have a great day!
Why didn't you keep that kitten? It was a nice deed to care, but why not keep it set it outside where there is a lot of danger for a cat especially for kittens. After a few month it's still a kitten and needs your support. It is better to give it to someone who wants to keep it home and care for. It was very thoughtful to help, but setting it "FREE" means setting it out and throwing it out to fight for it own survival which is for an inexperienced kitten life and dead fight! I hope you do understand. And:
Sorry to say that. But a pet becomes your pet when you keep it. It loves you, if you treat it well and it will show its love for you every day you share with it.
Real live for an animal means making sure it is well and in good hands after you rescued it, that is very responsible behavior.
There is poison from people who hate cats, there are cars, here are Coyotes, Racoo s and many more dangers for kittens.
I saw it myself from a neighbor who has a lot of feral cats and what happened to them. Sad stories I witnessed closely by listening to what the neighbor said and seeing the cats and kittens running around.
But Thank you for your successful rescues and your willingness to help these poor creatures. That was a very good attempt and approach at least. 👍🏻
Awww that is amazing!! Once i found a swallow in my neighbour's farm, she didn't want to take care of it so i tried to. I had a little hennery and a big place where i could have birds so i put the swallow in there. i gave her some bread mixed with water, so it wouldn't starve and when i wasn't even expecting it's parents showed up to help out! it was so amazing, i was really happy for it! But the next day it did it's first and last flight... in the middle of it another neighbour's cat caught the swallow i the middle of the air...
After that i only found fallen swallows in my yard and i'd never raised them by hand, i'd put them back in the nest and the parents wouldn't really mind my visits!

OMG!!!! The EXACT same thing happened to me, with the same type of bird, but it was at a rest stop in Texas. It was a bit bigger, and it could partially fly. It looked dead, but was a tiny bit stuck under a dead log. I pulled him out and he continued trying to fly while the other Swallows flew around. I named him Wally. I hope he’s ok.

I was holding my breath until the parents sign "Everything's o.k.!"
Two weeks ago, a little blue tit chick fall right before my feet! I guess , it was following it's elder siblings to early.
The nesting box is on our balcony railing, so I picked up the chick and pushed back the little explorer gently through the hole.
Fortunately the parents continued feeding the little ones some minutes later.
The little chick was soo lightweight, great feeling! I always thought, my budgies are small, but this chick was like a little feathered butterfly! 🦋
I was glad, beeing allowed to help him! 🥰

Once, in Singapore next to my school I found a small bird. It wasn't flying away but I was sure this was a flying speces. Imidietly i called over on of the teachers. The bird stayed at school for one day, and then the teacher took it home. The next day they meet some people from SPCA who took care of the bird from that point on. I can still remember it clearly.

Why wait until you grow up? Do it now! Start volunteering at shelters and things to help animals! Make sure to catch any stray cats and dogs if you can and help them get fixed to prevent overpopulation!
