I think DJ got it kinda wrong. Hodge only said he wasn't Mahomes, not that he wasn't any good. Caleb won't get a redshirt season and teams are gonna keep messing up trying to replicate the Chiefs/Mahomes play.
No he said he was nothing special after watching 6 games. He will also be going to a better situation than any other number 1 QB has ever gone too
Good point by DJ that getting the ball first means getting it third for a game-winning FG if the teams match up the first series.
But as Andy Reid said, the chiefs would have gone for 2, since he knew that just tying the game would give the 49ers a chance to win with just another FG, and both defenses were tired...And it would have made sense to go for two, since you want your offense to decide the game.
That was Shanahan's reasoning. Play for the third possession when it really is sudden death.
@@enoughbs6598well that's okay if you have Patrick mahomes. Hardiman better make the catch.
Very nice conversation, thanks!
From the guy who said Mahomes was a bust while now saying "Caleb will need some work, pieces around him and time to develop". Go watch Mahomes college highlights. He is ONE-OF-ONE and EVERYONE of the so-called NFL scouts missed on him except the Chiefs
Bosa crashing down, and not going after Mahomes, was one of the biggest mistakes in this game that no one is talking about.
As a Rams fan I wholeheartedly believe the Bears should listen to all the Caleb slander and trade the #1 pick to the Rams so Les and Sean can pick him.
Do jt Bears!! Cmon Les, make it happen!
Daniel made the point I noticed. Forget all the other points on the game. Go back and look at the 4th & 1 in OT. IF Bosa doesn't crash into the RB and stays home. Mahomes has to pull an amazing move to avoid getting stopped. Look at the replay... 49er's win and of course the Chiefs were going down with Mahomes.
Bosa did his job. The LB is supposed to be over top to take care of the pull. Guys can’t abandon their assignments just because. If Bosa doesn’t take the RB and he stays with Mahomes and it was a run then the rb has that space as a cutback.
Chiefs used bosa's strength against him- he crashes and mahomes is free, same on the TD pass bosa got caught inside@@account_suspended
Bosa crashing down, and not going after Mahomes, was one of the biggest mistakes in this game that no one is talking about. Bosa had to have known Mahomes is keeping it, no way they go down with an RB getting the ball over Mahomes. Terrible awareness by Bosa.
Fair enough but as you mentioned the 49er Defense didn't play the play correctly. As mentioned by Daniel there was no way the Chiefs were losing the Super Bowl without the ball being in Mahomes hands. So put a SPY on Mahomes... 49er's made several little mistakes like paper cuts that cost them an OT game. I thought 49er's clearly out played the Chiefs in 1st half but were only up 1 score and in hindsight that cost them the game.@@account_suspended
Dj is absolutely the GOAT
DJ and Bucky plus other "experts" had deshone kizer ss the consensus best prospect.
Not to mention had trubisky rated higher than mahomes.
Yet their opinions should be reveared over others?
Didn't hodge have trubisky over mahomes as well? Nobody is perfect
If the Chiefs decide to tag Jones this year to try and get a trade done, CHI should 100% consider trading thier 2nd 1st rounder for him. They need a guy like Jones to solidify that D. They have some other good players there but they don't really have a leader or tone setter. They then could draft Williams and give him some leeway to learn with a more dominant D to help make the games closer and less stressful for Williams.
Jeremiah didn’t even have Mahomes top 50 a month before the draft lol
Nor did he even really watch the SB… this guys strange.
I remember when Mahomes was in draft. The word was Mahomes had All world talent but was considered needing time to develop. Remember Mahomes sat most of his rookie season. But unlike Brady Mahomes still went 10th in 1st Rd.
In his first full season, Tom threw for 2800 yards and 18 touchdowns. In his first full season, Pat threw for 5000 yards and 50 touchdowns. That is why Mahomes was drafted higher. He has just so much more talent than Tom ever had.
I don't disagree. You made my point which Mahomes HAD the talent and scouts knew it. Yes if you took a QB before Mahomes you regret it but going 10th in 1st RD is still high. Rogers & Marino are examples of asking teams what were they thinking letting them drop soo far... There is no science in picking these QB's... Burrow went #1 but there were questions about him. Trevor Lawrence was considered a can't miss and he is a good QB but has to be considered a disappointment since Lawrence was compared to Andrew Luck coming out of college. I m in Indy and Luck was as good as advertised. Too bad Luck decided retire... No one thought Stroud would be as good as he was this past year.@@markb3786
Mahomes has been in the league for 6 years and he has 3 super bowls wins. Mahomes is the same quarterback now that he has always been. The talent around him may have needed to developed. You were just wrong about Mahomes. Own it!
??? If mahomes was always this same mahomes he would’ve been competing for titles in college. He himself said he couldn’t read an NFL defense until like the middle of his second year starting.
@@chase5835 It did not affect his performance.
@@calvertwilliamson4721 if it didn’t he would’ve been the clear #1 draft pick. He wasn’t
Chief’s win through winning play calling and great defense.
Wish you could have given some of your knowledge to Staley.
you guys also left out how Mahomes sounds like Kenny Powers
What happened with the Niners defense is Greenlaw getting injured.
So Trey Lance was trash after less than 4 games yet Justin Fields can potentially grow further after 39 games!
Lance was unfortunate with injuries and then coming up against Purdy who proved more studious with a better work ethic. Lance will have his shot in Dallas
I see you App State!
Who is hosting the draft this season
It’s good to remember that Mahomes went to the best possible situation. The conversation on him might be very different had he gone to the bears.
Comparing an Andy polished Mahomes to any rookie is absolutely unfair.
Let’s judge Merrill’s comments in 3 years.
Can't wait for the Bears to get a HAUL for #1 and have the best draft set up for a 4 year run ever. 2023-2026 riddled with picks to have the best roster in football for years. Bears can have a top 10 team easy next year and win the division
As a USC fan for over 30 yrs I agree w/ Hodge, Caleb is not Mahomes, not even close. It's gonna be unfair that he's getting those comps. I'll take Maye long term over Caleb, I think both could be pro-bowl players but Maye could be some where between Josh Allen & Herbert if it works. Caleb can be Donavan McNabb or an athletic Kirk Cousins if it works. At worst Caleb will be polished/best version of Mark Sanchez & Maye will be Culpepper
The Justin Fields fanboys have an irrational belief that he will blossom with the right OC. However, no one can teach Justin to process information faster. That is why he will always be a second tier QB who needs to be programmed. Draft Caleb!
The NFL is another beast. Williams will struggle his first few seasons and the same discussion will occur
I don’t see Williams’s ego allowing him to sit for a year. I think whoever drafts him is in for a nonstop soap opera.
I think Rattler is going to be the surprise QB in this draft if he goes to a team that can help him mature.
Hey maybe I am mistaken but who was the draft guy on Rich's show who compared Bryce Young to Mahomes last year? Go look at the Notre Dame - USC game this past season and tell me how great Caleb Williams is... No doubt Williams is best QB in draft but their is something about his attitude just doesn't impress me. If Bears got a great offer I'd trade the #1 pick.
And check out that Mahomes vs Baker game...Oklahoma vs Texas Tech. Baker was a BALLER with a cannon of an arm. Fact is nobody knows. Mahomes would NOT be 3x SB champion on the Bears. He sat behind a back-to-back Pro Bowl QB in Alex Smith. Fields was thrown to the wolves because Nagy was forced to play him early. Bears fans are neurotic.
No doubt Caleb Williams is a talent. But I watched him play and this past season he wasn't great. All I heard were excuses about his O Line & WR's. But watching USC struggle late William's demeanor didn't impress. Supposedly he has this large entourage around him and reportedly doesn't want to play for the Bears. I am not saying Bears shouldn't draft him. But Caleb is NOT considered a can't miss prospect.... I am just a fan I don't know. If Bears get a great offer they should consider trading the pick. Justin Fields has talent he is not a bust. If Bears were that soured on Justin Fields why didn't they just take CJ Stroud last season? @@BlindedBySight
I'm a Bears fan and i'm terrified that Williams may be an all-time bust
It would probably behoove the Bears to find a responsible, experienced journeyman QB & let him play this season, which would allow Caleb sit & learn behind him (at least for 14-15 games. Maybe let Williams play one or two games at the end of the season).
I think it really benefits young quarterbacks to be able to sit during year one & just learn how to practice & be a professional football player. If the Bears just throw him in the deep end & don’t set the team up for him to be successful (a decent line & a couple receivers at least), he could very well get broken before he has a chance to develop good habits. I hope the Bears treat him right🤞
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192have to agree with you. Mahomes has discussed how much he learned how to be professional from Alex Smith. But we may be living in a generation of short attention spans where the media and fans expect a rookie to be able to start and be successful right away. The organizations that have had success letting their rookie QBs watch and learn (Chiefs and Packers), are highly insular and I don't see the Bears being that way.
Williams has already shown that he lacks the mentality to succeed in the NFL. His statement about wanting an equity ownership stake in the team that drafts him was ridiculous and shows how delusional he is. Williams has all the makings of a classic 1st round bust - once the money hits his bank account, he checks out and simply doesn't have the work ethic (like a Brady or a Mahomes) to put in the hours to succeed. I would also be worried that his play regressed this year.
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 is Caleb Williams mature enough to sit for a year and learn? I'm not sure his attitude and ego will let him do that.
@J-pe9kv mate 100%. When a rookie is already talking money and ownership and equity, that is a red flag. A few other things stood out for me:
1. Did he have the same coaching staff his entire time in USC?
2. How does he fare behind a leaky Offensive Line, similar to Bears?
3. He skipped his Bowl Game to prepare for the NFL, essentially walking away from him team because it was a 'nothing' Bowl, and missed an opportunity to bolster his highlight reel. So when the going gets tough in the NFL, will he skip games?
Honestly, I could see a Bo Nix, JJ McCarthy, Michael Penix, or Spencer Rattler being the best Qb to come out of this draft. Williams, Maye, and Daniels will all be drafted by franchises with bad all around rosters, and with a GM, and head coach in a hurry to prove their worth either through winning early, or being able to say "Look at the future! I drafted the next...guy." They won't have a chance to sit and learn, or have talented rosters already built around them. Something scares me about the Caleb Williams kid. Too many scouts trying to compare him to Mahomes.
Love Bo Nix!! Hope my Seahawks give him a look
Nix, McCarthy, and Rattler? Yikes.
I can see drafting Penix, but he has an injury history.
Mahomes won't have a 10 year drought like Brady did for like EVER..
He might. Salary cap.
This is how crazy the media is. The dude is paid to talk about the Super Bowl and just claimed he wasn't really watching the Super Bowl, he was watching highlights from college running backs LOL and he hasn't watched the film back from the Super Bowl. But let's go ahead and hear his opinions L o l
Daniels is the best QB. Caleb couldn't even win 10 games at usc
Rattler plays like Mahomes.
If guy didn’t watch the game….. what…. ?
Do you have ears? He said he didn’t watch the halftime show. Yes he watched the game. 🤦♂️
Justin Fields is a bad QB with a slow dropback slow throwing motion and slow processing. You watch him and everything is slow except when he runs
Halftime show sucked like usual
It did. So how would you fix it instead? What would you suggest
I agree it sucked as well. Maybe a little more rock oriented halftime show?
Let special Olympians play flag football for halftime
Mix genres & have co-headliners..A-list rock country rap etc. & get 2(+) of the best guitarists have em dual it out🤷🏼♂️
The only talent that Caleb Williams that’s equal to Patrick Mahomes is that they’re both great crybabies?
Kyle is NOWHERE ON THE LEVEL AS ANDY,WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT JEREMY 😡🤮😡🤮😡🤮😡🤮
Hoge thought Mahomes was a second round prospect and had Trubisky 1 and Deshaun 2 in the 2017 draft. So he's kinda stupid.
The one curse of being a Chiefs fan: the draft. We're always dead last.
Show sucked
Caleb will be a bust.
