Had to come back and watch this after hearing the behind the scenes. Great job picking it up TJ. And when Rich came back in, he was so composed. Consider this former broadcaster impressed. :)
And Chris, great job stretching that conversation.
The 2007 Giants being a wild card team and making the Super Bowl after winning the NFC championship in OT to then go on and spoil the undefeated Patriots season in the 2008 Super Bowl might be the craziest single season run.
True honestly. And football today is different.
The year the Eagles won the Super Bowl was nuts for me (Eagles fan). They somehow survived 4 straight passes from the 2-yard line to Julio Jones in the Divisional, beat the pants off the red hot Vikings in the NFC Championship game. And then finally, they offensively whooped on the Patriots in oh-so-glorious fashion to take it all!
Not saying it’s the most impressive run. But, my favorite by far.
The muffed punt was a turning point of the game.
Hard to call it a muff when it was touched by another player who was not the "receiver". The receiver could not handle the DEFLECTION. It was not like the punt went to him directly and he dropped it.
@@laserwizard2it’s a general muff
@@laserwizard2 It looked to me like he tried to pick up the ball instead of just falling on it to get the recovery.
But I knew the Niners were in trouble in the first half when they were playing so well and not scoring enough points.
It was karma for the bounce catch of Vildor’s facemask in the NFC championship, luck swings both ways
get better Rich. thanks for toughing it out.
I think the take-away from the last 3 days of analysis/discussion/reaction is the world, most notably the media, has STILL not quite come to terms how good the KC defense actually is. There's so much focus on Mahomes, Reid, Kelce, SWIFT, that it tends to take 5 minutes into any discussion before anyone mentions the defense.
Spags name has hardly been mentioned!
@@MrMytube60 I've been watching a lot of post-game commentary and analysis and while Spags does get mentioned in pretty much every interview / show I've watched but it takes way too long before it happens. As good as Mahomes/Reid/Kelce are, KC doesn't sniff the playoffs this year without Spag's D. (i'm a Chiefs fan btw) and that's a quantum leap from even last year when the defense gave up 35 w/ mostly the same guys. And prior years, when the defense was bottom 3rd of the league. Total shift. And next year they won't be as good if they don't pay Jones and Snead. Interesting times.
Apparently you watch the wrong people. Almost all of the pundits are giving Spags his due for the entire Chiefs' season.
@@larrydlam I'm just saying it takes them forever to do so, not that they aren't doing so (if your comment was meant for me)
Try YEARS of enduring this with Brady’s early Patriots years. People talk about the GOAT’s rings but barely gloss over the monster defense core that got him there in first place
They really need to get Brockman and TJ more involved in the "mothership" show. Brockman's takes on Overreaction and What's more likely? are brilliant and it would be nice to hear from TJ outside of the Cowboys. Makes for a much more entertaining show.
Get well soon, Rich!
Love you guys! ❤
LOL I love how the narrative all year was "THIS WAS MAHOMES WORST TEAM" and they set a record holding the most teams defensively to under 25 points.
In totality and in terms of personnel it is. The offense wasn’t good early in the year and struggled a lot at times. That includes weapons and the tackles
In fairness, this was the most losses in a season the Chiefs have had with Mahomes as QB.
I thought it was the worst Offense?
I think more people said it was their worst offense, not their worst team. Everyone knew their defense was solid all year.
Worst offense and it ain’t even close.
The 49ers stop running the ball in the 3rd quarter same way 2016 SB played out.. shanahan turns into shanashit..
😂
Chiefs defense was stopping the run. They were playing the run and wanted Brock to throw it…… running the ball would have got them beat quicker.
You don’t win in today’s game running the ball.
Didn’t the bills, ravens, and 49ers show you that?
You think they all just decided not to run it?
Chiefs defense is that good.
They make you throw it
@@Drewswaggythat sounds great, but I saw the drive in overtime where they just ran at will on that Chiefs defense. Sit down before you embarrass yourself further
@@Drewswaggy agreed m. But to abandon the the run all together especially in the red zone is what we’re upset with.. I’m a falcons fan.. shanashit did the same with us allowing ample time for the comeback.. although the deficit wasn’t as large same principle should apply.
CMC got injured and they started limiting his touches. CMC even pulled himself out of the game when it happened.
This is why I felt the Lions had a better shot. CMC is better than either Jahmyr Gibbs or Davi Montgomery but he's one human being. 35 rushing snaps on one guy in one game is a lot harder to pull off than splitting 40 between two guys.
2007 Giants best postseason run ever. Beat Bucs, Cowboys, Packers all on the road. THEN beat the undefeated Patriots in the Superbowl.
Yep….
in the coming weeks i expect a lot of crystal ball from/in the rich eisen show!!
Great job boys!
The Chiefs are not the most impressive, but certainly impressive.
Shanahan is an over reaction. There's no way that Brady would even come back.
The 9ers did screw up by playing scared and started throwing.
Should have stayed on the field and tiring out the defense of the Chiefs.
How can you be impressive and not that impressive?
If they threepeat the, or even just make the Super Bowl again and lose, it isn’t an overreaction I think
I think that i got some lyrics dedicated to Tom Brady. It goes like this straight to all the 32 NFL teams : "We are never ever ever getting back together/We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me/But we are never ever ever ever getting back together"🤣😂
Had to come back to see the exact moment Rich was puking
This chiefs team reminded me of the 2018 Pats. That team was NOT considered by most to be the best. They had to lean on the defense and run game and they did it (against Mahomes btw).
Brady’s run with Bucs more impressive, COVID year, brand new team, new coach, new conference, then goes undefeated after the buy week and beats Drew Brees, with the Saints, on the road, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on the road, (MVP) and then wins the first home Super Bowl in NFL history against Mahomes and the Chiefs…unreal
Defense carried him. Overrated crybaby
@@swann433 1st round against WA, 381yds 2TDs, 2nd round against NO, 199yds 2 TDs, NFC championship against GB, 280yds 3 TDs, Super Bowl goes 21-29 201yds 3 TDs…..yeah defense carried him the entire way you’re right
@@swann433headed out statement
@@swann433 Can't believe the defense threw that awesome touchdown to Scotty Miller in Green Bay
@@MD-jg5lyeveryone knows Tom Brady was a complete bust of a QB. What a bum!
What happens at halftime that completely changes a teams play in the 3rd Quarter.
7:54
How did they get to the three-yard line in the first place?
I’ll push back on “the most impressive in NFL history” claim for the Chiefs’ championship stretch. It’s true that three NFL championship victories in five years is very impressive; but it doesn’t equal the Lombardi era Packers’ five NFL championship wins in seven years, which included a “threepeat.”
I get tired of people disrespecting the man who the trophy is named after. Just because you weren’t around back then doesn’t mean it should be dismissed.
Yes
Okay tho, I'm 30 and I've witnessed #1 & #2 ?!
Great time to be alive
People do realize that CMC is only 5'11", 205lbs, right? KC was landing real shots on that man. Those hits add up, especially as the game goes on. I don't blame CMC at all.
Tom Brady is 46 years old. You might as well be talking about bringing Joe Montana or John Elway back to play
Can imagine if they gotten Tom Brady in 2020, and he play 3 years with them. Not just 7 Super Bowls try ten with that line up. Man must burn Lynch when he is talking with the owner.
The bucs in '21 was a better effort. New QB , no preseason , from a wild card , 3 wins on the road , beating the team your raving about with no touchdowns from Mahomes. It wouldnt even be an argument.
If you wanna say the 6 year stretch is most impressive, sure I can buy that. But to me the most impressive year or playoff stretch is the 2012/13 Ravens and Joe Flacco converting a 4th and 29 vs the Chargers to sneak into the playoff, to then beat Andrew Luck, Manning in Denver (Mile High Miracle), Brady in New England, and then Kaepernick in the power outage Harbaugh-Bowl. This year was impressive for the Chiefs for sure, but it doesn’t match the 2012/13 Ravens.
Nothing is more impressive than the 07 Giants beating the undefeated Patriots. That being said, they were talking about the 6 year run the Chiefs are on
Chiefs won back to back super bowls without a number 1 WR. Chiefs won the Super Bowl being an underdog in 3x playoff games.
Chiefs are only gonna get better on offense too. That is scary good
Tom Brady (who became part owner of the Raiders in the offseason) isn't allowed to play for any nfl team. These guys are smart enough to know this.
He isn't a part owner yet, deal has to be approved by rest of the NFL and that hasn't happened
In no world would the Bears take Alt without trading out of the first pick
On a Tuesday ❤
Bill belicheck for DC next year for the Niners?
If Tom Brady was on the field, you don't think that field experience, study habits, and even his arm talent, it looked great last he played, you don't think that would have made a difference in that game? Identifying the Blitz? Knowing how to make reads at a special rate?
Chief's SB loss was to Brady. Chief's AFC Championship loss was to Brady
Cool? Chiefs are still a dynasty
Not if they had this defense.
If 2 consecutive teams stopped potent run games against the chiefs defense, maybe there's a reason???
Maybe, just maybe, that defense was tiring out the offensive line too.
Just a thought...
" keep Mahomes on the side line " ... the Parcells method of winning has value, time of possesion=win
Nah. Scoring more points = win.
Parcells is a genious
On the Brady getting smoked by Chris Jones comment. Brady has played enough to recognize that was an issue and make a shift in protection. Hes another coach on the field and would have made sure everyone on team was aware of overtime rules.
Exactly they made it sound like he would have wound up in that exact same situation and he just wouldn’t have put himself in that position due to his experience and being able to see things before they happen which is why he was so great
Someone on the 9ers line blew the coverage! There was no play called where you let the best player on the D free to your QB when he lives on the line! Brady is good but you can’t fix stupid!
@@djc9727 I'm no expert, but it looked like a bit of an exotic blocking scheme on that blown-up play; I would bet Brady reassigns blocking responsibilities, making sure Jones is doubled-teamed instead of zero-teamed. 😉
Please...Brady fanbois need to get a hold of themselves.
He couldn't have made it through the whole season and then get to the Super Bowl.
You sound like the Chicago Bears fans calling for Mini Ditka.
Find a new take.
So a question: In comments elsewhere, a fan was saying Purdy did not call the correct protection, but other 49ers fans stated that in Shanahan's system the QB can not change protection. So my question: is Purdy allowed to call protection changes?
To your first overreaction I suggest the '60s Packers or '70s Steelers or '00s/'10s Patriots are similar or better than the Chiefs and the simple fact that the Patriots had 2 decades of dominance, in my mind, easily makes them the greatest dynasty ever, so far.
Brady in TB beat 3 super bowl MVPs in a row, two of them on the road. Breese, Rodgers, Mahomes. That’s the best run
Pittsburgh Steelers won four Super Bowls in 6 years with another AFC Championship game in between. Isn't four Super Bowls more impressive than three?
I have to agree with Orlovsky, we need to pump the brakes on Mahomes just a bit until he's past Montana and Bradshaw on the SB wins list. Like, we get it, he's great and he's had a great career already but he's still got work to do and other QB's to pass before we crown him the "second best ever".
If the 49ers would have signed Brady in 2020, they might have won 3 Super Bowls with him. Is that an overreaction?
Nope. There’s domino effects and I think Purdy would play this specific 23 chiefs teams defense better than Brady because of his legs but the previous two years? Welp.
CMC got hurt in the third quarter on a run. Got knocked down out of bounds and had trouble getting up. Immediately pulled himself out of the game.
If you can get CMC 35 touches you win that game but he's one man. This is why I felt the Lions were a better matchup. 15-20 touches for Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery each would've found more success on the ground.
I love it (not!) when they all talk at the same time.........
We saw something like that Chris Jones play while Brady was in the Bucs against Dallas, and made a TD to Gronk, from a fake block and release. He plays chess while others rely on their god-given talent.
Note to Brockman - S.F. Bay Area is not the Pacific Northwest. You need to get out more.
Northern California is included in the Pacific Northwest. Last I checked SF is in northern ca. and the weather is very similar to all cities up the coast to Washington. Hell, western Montana gets included on the Pacific Northwest .
Chris: "I was looking at the play log." Huh? A little too invested fanboy?"
2007 Giants won away at Tampa, Cowboys, Green Bay, then beat the undefeated Patriots
that was a big run, teh y did it from the wildcard - i would say thats better
What SF should do is ask Bill Belichick to come be DC and pay him whatever he wants.
I can’t wait until Cynthia Frelund’s next appearance on this show lol. Or maybe they address it on NFL Network (which I don’t have and won’t see). I’m pretty sure Cynthia is the one that mocked Joe Alt to the Bears at #1. Rich just kinda threw shade without realizing it was her lol. Although I think he’s right, that’s crazy. They could easily trade back, get some extra picks and still draft Alt if they wanted to. The value is not there at 1 for him.
Why did the 49’ers give 8 point away on specialteams … that’s the real problem here
Tom Brady wouldn't have went three and out after half time three times
The Bears drafting Joe Alt 1st overall would be unbelievably Bears!
I think the late 80s to 90 49ers have a claim for the toughest dynasty. They lost out to Joe Gibbs teams, Bill's Parcells teams, the 85 Bears, and once they made it through that gauntlet, kicked the he'll out of everyone (88 Bengals excluded, great game)
Brockman’s ❤for NE past shining through!!!!
The first one is such hyperbole. Browns won 7 championships and were in League Championship games 10 consecutive seasons from 1946 to 1955. Even if you take out the 4 AAFC seasons. It was 6 consecutive championship games with 3 wins.
I love when people act like SF or BAL just decided to stop running for kicks and giggles... the Chiefs were playing 5 DL and shutting down the running lanes. They got forced out of it.
what was up with Rich disappearing for a bit at around the 2:30 mark? medical time out? Super Bowl hangover? Hope he is fine.
Apparently left early and not feeling well😮
from the comments made throughout the video, I'd guess he was feeling ill.
Brady would have known the ñew overtime rules and told Shanahan to put the Chiefs on the field first
And the Chiefs would have go down and score a TD!!
They should have gotten him in 2020 when he wanted to go there
2:15 wtf are they even talking about shanahan said the only person that would start over purdy was brady if he wanted to play, they making it sound like he passed on brady??
That’s not an overreaction with Bill Belichick
Belichick should sign for 1 year as 49ers DC try and win another superbowl then go be a HC the following year
Should we all be as successful as Kyle Shanahan.
6:54 hold on, hold on, bringing Bill on as a DC is actually NOT the stupidest thing in the world. It wouldn’t happen, but it would be interesting. Carroll is another interesting option at DC for the 49ers because Wilkes was playing prevent defense in 4th and overtime and it was a BIG mistake. Probably compensating for the 3 injuries that affected the defense but just saying mojo and scheme was gone.
Carroll's defense is outdated. Seattle has been getting shredded defensively for awhile. I hope they do NOT get Carroll
Anyone who wouldn’t rather have had Brady as QB for the 49ers in the SB game over Purdy is just crazy. He has the experience to play way better from that point alone let alone him being a far superior QB. Brock looked nervous in his plays especially in the second half when they were struggling. When was the last time that Brady looked nervous in that situation? Answer never because he performs best under pressure.
Patriots went to 8 straight AFC Championships and won 3 super bowls and went to 4 super bowls in 5 years as well, KC has got to win again next year and I will be impressed with the 3 peat
Trent Williams cost the miners the game, his two penalties to stop the drive when they were rolling in the early part of that game reset the momentum. that was a crushing moment. More so than McCaffrey’s fumble.
Not to mention losing Greenlaw made the chiefs have more drop downs in the middle and that screwed up the game plan.
Should the 49'ers call Bill Belichick ?? ... are you serious ?? ... not only NO but hell NO !!!
Bears either draft Caleb or swap picks with Washington at 2. I don't see any other scenario.
Kyle imo is still the best coach in the nfl you’re crazy! Next year watch out also Jim will be in San Diego!!
He's not better than Reid.
Niners "D" was dominant all night. Then they gave up the field the last drive, & first of OT. Chiefs could have walked the ball downfield on the tying drive. Prevent defense is garbage in a 1 score game.
That Tom Brady point is malarkey. Purdy is on a rookie contract. If the 9ers had Tom it would've changed thier team around a bit. It's about the same thing as saying if the chiefs would've the had tyreek this game. Kc would've shitted on the 9ers.
Bears should trade back with commanders then do it again to let someone jump the pats to get Maye
They should hire tom brady as a qb assistant
Tom Brady might not have gotten away from Chris Jones, but he definitely would have got a roughing the passer call on the sack.
I mean... Brady is the only person that has beaten Mahommes in a SB. Do you think that's not going to be even more fuel for 15? Redemption story!
Mcaffrey had 160 yards from scrimmage. What the hell else could they expect from him. He looked absolutely gassed near the end of the game..
If they wanna win, they have the fire, Kyle Shanahan. They should’ve won that game. There’s no excuse, andCMC was running wild on KC. CMC should’ve had over 100 yards on the ground. The defense of Kansas City were making stops every time they let Purdy throw the ball.
GG trophy 🏆
Shouldn't have drank from the same bottle as Bert, Rich.
Chiefs Defense still not receiving the credit they deserve. Everyone talking about a different QB that would have had their number. I don't think so. Chiefs D was dominant all post season.
no one is going to pay what the bears would want for the number one pick.
Brady and Bucs 2021 went through Brees, Rodgers, and Mahomes to win the Super Bowl lol.
The 9rs stopped running the ball because McCaffry was banged up and hurtin'!! He was POOPED OUT!
The reason the 49ers stopped running it is baffling. Shanahan always does this though. He schemes the best run plays and options I've ever seen, yet abandons them in every Superbowl. The only thing I can think of is he wants to make his QB the hero of the game, and if that's the case he needs to remind himself of one phrase. "Dance with who brung ya." CMC should have been fed that second half.
McCaffrey was tired. He already had 22 carries and 80 yards receiving. The Chiefs were really bringing the heat on every tackle.
Tom Brady is a statue. He'd never get away from Chris Jones, especially now. He definitely wouldn't have made those runs against Detroit two weeks ago. The 49ers behind Brady don't even make the Super Bowl.
Love the 9ers, love Aiyuk, CMC, Purdy, Kittle, damn it man, why the hell did the right guard mcklingchy or whatever the F his name is not block jones on the last play - the guy has a god damn brain aneurism and leave Purdy all alone unguarded. they should fire him. They had this game, this were better than the damn chiefs, they had them beat, a muffed punt and they win, guard one guy at the end and they win - Aiyuk was WIDE OPEN ALL ALONE in the end zone 💔
u up?
The afc owners and execs have tk be absolutely sick for letting kc win the last 2 years as they rebuilt the o line the defence and besides Rashee rice it’s been the island of misfits at receiver so you have to think the chiefs are even better next year if they cut down the drops they’ll be a top 3 offence again its unfathomable kc pulled this off
Mahomes greatest trick is making coaches think they got to beat him by outQBing him.
Dallas had 4 tougher NFC title game opponents, different HC's and assistants. They won with Switzer for goodness sake. Just because the Bills lost 4 in a row doesn't mean they sucked.
And I hate the Cowboys....
If Dallas had made it to 6 straight NFC championships while accomplishing all that, i would agree.
The Brady comment was so random lol WTH
Belichick as defensive coordinator.
He's not going to be a DC at this point in his career.
Dre Greenlaw goes down.. and suddenly Kelce reappears. Yeah, that punt hitting the blockers foot... really bad.
Shanahan with some head scratching 3rd Q and Final Drive in OT
As for the Draft: Caleb Williams is a solid prospect. HE IS NOT the next "generational" QB much less the next Mahomes
Bears will likely draft him... But they should trade out.
Difference if TB12 the QB once Mahomes made mistake got intercepted close to 50 yd I’m sure TB 12 will capitalise on that and ends up with a points wasted opportunity by 49ers.
If Brady was behind center for 49ers in that game they win 100%
“3 yard pass for a touchdown”💀😂
The last time the Chiefs played Brady, they did not have this Defense. If SF went with him over Purdy, SF would have put Purdy in regardless cuz Jones or a McDuffie blitz would have ended the game for Tom. Also....Why did the 49ers stop running the ball? Did you see how many times Parnell pancaked Williams? lol. The Chiefs line is the reason the 49ers stopped rushing. Stop discounting the damn Chiefs defense man. The 49ers stopped running the ball because the Chiefs defense embarrassed CMC and that running game. Even after everything you watched, you still don't see it.
Omg😂 Brady gets 8th ring with 3rd team. NEVER gonna beat that as GOAT
Giants trade up to # 1 and take a Caleb Williams. Bears get next years first and second and this years #6 and Saquan Barkley.
Both teams finish 4th in their division again.
