He had a running start going in because he worked as a psychotherapist for years before going in to the camps. He worked with his patients and realized that what they were lacking was meaning. He would send his most depressed patients who were struggling with unemployment to go and work as volunteers and they started feeling better. He called it needing meaning but in your framework that would mean doing Te or Fe work for your tribe to get away from Fi or Ti despair. And it worked. You didn’t even need to be paid for your Te and Fe work. People just need to feel like they are needed. That they can do something for someone else. He is brilliant.

This is dead on the money. I have had serious health issues hit me very hard on top of a childhood that was very comfortable but with a lot of adversity, I guess being an ENFJ my Ni is always future looking and "it will get better". I volunteer whenever and wherever I can and it always helps and I find most people to be absolutely shocked at how intense my Fe can be and I end up making a big difference in the end.

Such a good example of what Ni is doing. Logotherapy is the result of him finding the common ground among other popular theories at the time. He talks about other approaches, that say we are wired to seek pleasure/avoid pain, or that we naturally seek power, etc. And his theory is that what other psychotherapy approaches have in common is explained by his theory of logotherapy. Everyone is seeking some sort of purpose, and other therapy approaches are the routes to meaning, but are not universal in themselves like his theory. That was my takeaway anyway.

Sick. That's exactly what I've been pondering over these days.
I know that for me, when I'm feeling bad in the SF moment, I "NT know" that there are lasting decisions I can make that will help me feel better. But these decisions will only come to fruition the day after tomorrow . I _know_ it's a good decision, but I'm not actually _feeling_ it in the moment. There is always this SF physical desire to be lazy, maybe have ice cream and treat myself. That will feel better for the day, but it wont last. It's like a constant argument between the little devil and the little angel on my shoulders.

This new age personal growth "Rah-rah, you can do it" stuff is just one side of the story and just one part of a complex picture. The other side of the story is that you can try your best for decades and still fail. And the rest of the complex picture is that interest in personal growth requires a questionable view of the world and it ignores the social context in which success might just reinforce our problems. Of course, selling the simple personal growth story is more profitable than digging deeper.

    • @Nerdy-By-Nature
      @Nerdy-By-Nature Před rokem

This man is a new discovery for me but it sounds like his view is both macro and micro - we have to have a purpose as an individual, and as a society, as a human race, there needs to be shared purpose and meaning. He's absolutely correct. And from what you're saying, I agree that we can all try our best and yet if everything around us is set up for us to fail we won't really see success (hence his point about shared purpose among humans). But if you're trying your best for decades you certainly haven't failed. Trying your best is never failing. Giving up is failing. And that's not new age hippy rah-rah, that's common sense that you can see applied in a practical way. It requires an adjustment to how we define success, especially personally.

This video hit my INFJ self on multiple levels!
When I was in my mid 20’s in the 80’s during height of Miami Vice I was an executive secretary for the owner/operator of Florida’s only authorized Ferrari dealership!
I know a lot about Ferrari’s and Enzo himself! I had a lot of correspondence with with FNA Ferraro North America and Maranello, Italy. Ferrari Meets etc.
Knowing absolutely nothing about personality types I remember that every.single.day I HAD to go for a walk or go sit by the intercostal of which we were closely located and be by myself for a while.
I remember thinking at the time that there was something odd about me and it was probably looking out over a sea of red Ferrari’s every day that was over stimulating to me
LoL 😂 Red is a indeed a high energy color, but now I KNOW that it was my INFJ self that required breaks from all the “extroverting” that I had to do on a daily basis LoL 😆
Also simultaneously, while being a young girl in the 80’s in South Florida rubbing elbows with the “movers and shakers” of the time I was in search of understanding God and the meaning of life.
All the things that you mentioned religion and aliens was and still is fascinating to me!
I believe in God, intelligent design and that there is more to God’s creation than just us here on planet earth!
Of course, we cannot hope to grasp and understand these things fully this side of heaven. However, I am satisfied in my conclusion that I will not be capable of understanding such things fully during this lifetime, but my strong faith is KNOWING that God exists and like a certain historical and popular book says: “seek and ye shall find!”
I continue to seek and indeed I have found that He does in fact reveal Himself and His truth His seekers!
I do have a question though LoL 😝 What do you think Enzo Ferrari’s personality type may have been??
I do know that he lost his son Dino Ferrari at a young age and Enzo of course was deeply impacted by his son’s untimely death which could account for some of Enzo’s philosophical language??
He also named a Ferrari model after him simply called Dino 🏎

I think y'all interpreted this all wrong, I dont see it as goal setting or Ni, I see it as pure meaning, not as goal setting. Meaning can be relationships, as was hinted by him saying "someone waiting at home for you". This is FI Meaning, not NI Goal setting. Fi Meaning wants to do work that has meaning and value- not just for cash. I see Ni as purely creating a path towards your goals, but FI as the actual meaning and the desire for that meaning. At the end he said "and values"; Ni doesnt seek values, it seeks purely goals; it's Fi that seeks values along with meaning. He did not say 'create a future' he said, have a future, have a meaning; already have a relationship at home, already have meaningful work; in other words, these were meanings that were already there; they wernt what he was imagining might occur in the future.

I agree. Also in times of great joy. Balance is important in all things. It's not about the information being taken in or how you take it in. It's how much energy you put into dealing with all aspects of all possible outcomes, and the nuances of a given situation. You can waste energy saying something is impossible or crazy, or definite and concrete in it's truth. But no one can know everything for certain.

    • @thomascarstens2729

It obviously raises questions if one were to believe OPS.
      - They're blasting their own theory to encapsulate him and his theory, thus reducing his theory to fit their "impression" of the theory
      - They're also reducing an concentration camp trauma to a psychology model, taking once again an impression of what the man has done to deal with his trauma.
Does anyone else notice how little we know about Viktor Frankl before we jump to a conclusion?
Recently they've fallen into a habit of associative thinking (like the Arnold Schwarzenegger allusion or the title) and it definitely is flashy but unsubstantiated. Of course, they're welcome to say as they please, but videos like these make me sceptical, and not exactly the scepticism that OPS first intended to bring about

My solution is to focus on ultimate causes. Instead of focusing on the numerous symptoms, you can diagnose the single disease. That makes things simple. The ultimate cause of our problems is society's negative view of human beings, which makes us desperate and judgemental. The solution is to end that negative view. However, I admit I haven't found a way to get people to notice this issue. But at least I have clarity now.
