In original canon, Darth Vader's prosthetics were bulky and cumbersome. This forced Darth to change his fighting style to a clunkier, more brute-force style. Yoda was a perfect mismatch for this. He utilized a blinding, multi-angle attack that piled on mountains of speed and athleticism. He was also incredibly strong in the force. In short, Yoda would have destroyed Vader in a one on one duel and the emperor knew it. I also think he was concerned that Yoda's wisdom might sniff out and grab ahold of what little light was left in Anakin. Not worth the risk on multiple fronts.

    • @DaGhostFaceHD
      @DaGhostFaceHD Před 4 měsíci +20

in original canon was mentioned that Darth Vader is the strongest Force-user in existence/all time. He was pretty nerfed in the movies. Yoda was able to see force-time and knew that Anakin Skywalker was the chosen one and didnt interfere. Georg Lucas stated this in an interview. Yoda legit closed both of his eyes and hoped that the force was right about Anakin Skywalker, even after He turned to Darth Vader. I mean the prophecy was fullfilled at the end, so yoda was right all along, but it still amaze me how non-chelant yoda is.

Part of it, to me, is that Yoda simply disappeared. He went totally off the grid, kept his head down, didn't incite any uprisings, he just vanished like smoke in the wind. If Sidious pressured the search more heavily he would've soon be seen as their equivalent of Captain Ahab or maybe even Don Quixote.
Also, don't forget the cave on Dagobah (an apparent backwater world so remote and/or worthless most wouldn't think to consider looking there), close to where Yoda lived, strong in the dark side of the Force which would act as a buffer against Yoda's own power, diminishing that method of tracking.

  • @t74guard78

Yoda didn't almost defeat Sidious, he did. Sidious was disarmed of his lightsaber and when using the force, had it thrown right back at him. Just looking at Yoda's and Sidious's expressions just before the force explosion tells you who was stronger. Yoda confidence and Sidious panic. Sidious's very powerful force lightning was thrown back in his face by Yoda without the use of a lightsaber to block it. When Yoda said he failed, he didn't mean he lost, he meant he failed in stopping Sidious. With hundreds of clones entering the senate building, Yoda had no choice but to get the hell out of dodge. Mace also defeated Sidious and if it wasn't for that whinny little bitch Anakin, would have cut him in half. Sure Sidious was the most powerful Sith around and maybe of all time, but both Yoda and Mace defeated him but because he had help both times, survived. That is why Sidious and Vadar didn't want to find Yoda. He was just to bad ass to mess with.

Agree with most of that except the Mace Windu beating Sidious. Palpatine hadn't fully convinced Anakin of the jedi being corrupted yet, if he had just bested Windu and 3 other Master jedi there's a real chance Anakin enters the room sees their bodies and attacks the Palpatine, but because Windu appeared to be dominating Sidious and was ready to dispatch him, this proved to Anakin that the jedi had lost their way. I think Palpatine could have easily killed Windu at any point, but knew what he had to do to ensure Anakin would turn to the darkside.

Another factor that allowed Yoda to remain largely undetected was the fact that the Dagoba system, along with several others, was erased from the archives of the Jedi Temple years ago by count Dooku, when he sought to hide the location of Kamino and the clone army. If Obi-wan could find Kamino (erased from Jedi archives for similar reasons- to hide the fact the clone army was being produced there) they could have found Yoda. Yoda was hidden effectively on Dagobah by the influence of the dark-side cave and shrouded him, so as not to be detected through the force),. much like the Sith were hidden in plain sight and the Jedi were none the wiser about Palpatine's true nature.

@@orphenocou4742 It's more than Luke unlike Yoda not only has a great force potential that could end him, but unlike Yoda Luke was actively becoming a threat to the empire. Yoda spent most of his empire days as an hermit in a swamp planet so as far as Sidious knew he has no real hurry to kill him, at best merely an afterthought or a side quest. Luke however destroyed the Death Star, participates in the rebellion's missions, is learning how to use the force, and while still dwarfed at the time, he has the potential to grow and become a much greater threat to the Emperor.

As yoda starts to see jedi becoming soldiers and warriors more than peace keepers. He was eventually building a jedi empire that would too easily turn sith. Yoda knew his life was nearing an end. While far-fetched, I feel like similar to the love for Padme he kept deep down…so did his admiration for Yoda. In Ep1, it was Windu that denied Anakin to be trained, but Yoda conceded with hopes it would allow for the prophecy to be fulfilled. In Ep3, it was Yoda that Anakin sought wisdom from, rather than Kenobi, over his inner turmoil. Perhaps unlike the rest of the Jedi Order, a part of him felt that Yoda at least gave him an honest chance (he never got upset with him unlike Windu). Same thing with why Vader never went after Bail Organa due to his own relationship and connection with Padme…some things are best left undisturbed, ya know?

Perhaps Sidious had concerns about the two of them getting together because there may have been a chance that Yoda could get through to Vader where all others failed. Yoda's psychological power is one of his strongest traits.
And when he was Anakin, Yoda never made him feel inferior/too young etc quite like the other Jedis did and seemed more... kindly and understanding towards Anakin, so... maybe as Darth Vader he didn't have as much interest in what Yoda was doing like he did with Obiwan, who he had really close, upfront and very personal fights with.

There are alot of layers to this. For Sidious, it was never about proving he was a better swordsman or a better sith than Yoda was a jedi. It was about victory. Which he achieved. Vader was never stupid enough to think he could best Yoda. He sarcastically said he thought he rivaled Yoda as a swordman, but after losing to Obi Wan, I think he just knew better. And on top of that.
Sidious was always trying to reign in Vader who was all about the love of the fight. That competitive streak was still quite present in Vader and it just wasn't necessary. And they both were also relying on Yoda holding back.
Sticking strictly to jedi principles. If Yoda ever stopped holding back, the game was truly and simply over. As Dooku found out years earlier. Sidious likely saw Yoda's retreat as the best possible outcome after their duel. Yoda saw the stalemate as a failure on his end. In a duel where neither really knew the style of the other, Yoda held up well against the greatest sith(arguably) in history. After surviving the duel he likely would have learned enough to win round two. And Sidious wants absolutely none if that. He knew when to hold em, and when to fold em.

Yoda wasn;t the last of the Jedi, he just told Luke that to get him to train seriously, Ashoka and Quinlan Vos survived also. Ashoka survived because just prior to Order 66 Rex found fragmented files on a computer and he, 5's, Hunter, Echo, Crosshair, Tech and Wrecker agreed to find her and protect her. They were programmed to obey Order 66 but they couldn't be made to obey it if they never received it so they simply turned off their coms and went dark so they never received the order and hid her on their home planet of Kamino. Vos was a reconlitionist and could always escape Vader because he would backtrack to wherever Vader had just been so he was following Vader following him and simply went home to Kiffu after Vader gave up and then simply refused to rejoin the Jedi Order Counsel of Luke Leia and Ashoka after the Emperor was thought to be killed by Vader and died of old age.

@Bryan O'Connor yes he was. According to the true teachings and path of the Jedi Code, Yoda was the last of the true Jedi. Ahsoka made it very clear that she was not a Jedi anymore. Also, many Jedi survived order 66, but the question was weather or not they continued to walk the Jedi path and they didn't. Just because they continued to use the force didn't mean they were still Jedi. Only Yoda continued to focus on the Jedi ways, even in isolation, so that he could one day rebuild the Jedi Order. Why do you think he hid? It wasn't because he was scared, it was because he knew that him eventually being the last meant he would be the last hope for the galaxy to bring back the Jedi Order. Once he had trained Luke with all that was needed at a knight class, it was then up to Luke and only Luke to rebuild the Jedi Order as he was the last of the Jedi.

Remember Obi-wan speech to Luke in A New Hope? "Your father was killed by a Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a Pupil of mine until he turned to evil". Vader never went after Ashoka because he knew that if he went after her he would also have to fight the "Bad Batch" who were the basically a Clone Special Forces group who wasn't reprogramed by Order 66 and he wouldn't win that battle even with stormtroopers, He went after Vos but gave up not long after because he simply couldn't find him, with Vos being a Reconlictionist He knew where Vader was and could avoid him.

However, once it came to Return of the Jedi, Luke was, in terms of the Jedi Code and teachings, the LAST Jedi. There were NO others that continued to followed the code as per the Jedi teachings. Yoda knew of there being two that could be Jedi, but he saw the light in Luke that was greater than the one his sister. He knew that Luke would see diplomacy over action so as to find a better way, unlike Anakin whom was mostly about action first. So, please do not lecture me about the books. This is extremely smart of Yoda. He hid on Dantooine. I had dark side nexus. Extremely powerful dark side nexus. It hid Yoda's pressence and protected him. It's possible Vader was afraid of searching for Yoda. I think Yoda would beat Vader. He could mess with Vader suit, play with his mind(which he would probably do D like he played with Luke :D ). Jedi were devastated, psychological effect of Order 66 were tremendous. They were shaken to the core and beyond. And yes it was extremely difficult for Yoda to watch galaxy suffer, his Jedi brethren scattered . But Yoda waited right moment. Like he said to Obi-wan and Bail Organa. He waited Luke and Lea to grow up,to be strong enough. "Until time is right, disappear we will". Obi-Wan watch over Luke,as he said. He took the child and watch over him. May the Force be with you too. Have a nice day too :D

The fact that Yoda hid on Dagobah, a Dark Side Nexus that rivals Dathomir... Is interesting, to say the least.
Palpatine, would have been the best hunter to go there. Considering his strength in the Dark Side, and ability to mask himself.
But, that said. A Sith, facing Yoda there would certainly HAVE to be able to channel the force in order to have enough strength to best Yoda.
By and large, that is an ability more commonly found with the Jedi.
And indicates that Yoda was using Dagobah as a trap for any hunters.
Because a dark side nexus would certainly lead into a false sense of superiority for an inexperienced sith or inquisitor.
    And ultimately be their downfall.
Now, if say the Jensuraai were asked to go after Yoda, and of course very well trained.
A Jensuraai could theoretically channel the dark side energy to give them the upper hand.
Being their training originated from a former Padawan... Their effectiveness would certainly be questionable.
TBH, I think Palpatine had become too complacent after ROTS.
Given how Palpatine had orchestrated events prior...
It's a break in the continuity that to me doesn't make sense.
Perhaps the Mace Windu reflected force lightning event, damaged Palpatine in ways he didn't understand or accommodate for.
But, Palpatine certainly was lackadaisical in pursuing Yoda.
Sure, it was certainly a mind game on the surviving Jedi. However, that said...
Palpatine as a character, certainly would have expected any well trained Jedi to have the ability to let go of their attachment to any mental anguish, and ultimately regroup.
And for how good of a strategic planner Palpatine was... It's certainly a break in character.
So for Palpatine to allow a few survivors to go. Doesn't make sense, especially for him to allow Yoda to survive.
Granted, subjugation of the remaining in the Galaxy was an important task...
But, with an Empire at your command. Along with a huge military force...
Palpatine had no reason to micromanage it like that.
Unless, as I said; Windu did some very important injury to Palpatine that forced him to micromanage as such.
    But, I digress.
As we seen with Starkiller finding Yoda, being terrified of his power because Yoda lived in a Nexus like that...
That small bit of information would have been sufficient for Palpatine to have devised a way to get at, and kill Yoda.
So to put some analysis on it. It was complacency, possibly due to the aftermath of injury from his fight with Windu...
It was ultimately, the beginning of his downfall.
Could they have got Yoda? Absolutely.
But, and this is a common bit in not only fiction, but also as we've seen with diabolical real life people like Ted Bundy...
They eventually grow tired, and want to be caught.
However, history and fiction has shown us that isn't always true.
And from a character analysis standpoint. Palpatine doesn't fit the bill of one who would want to be stopped.
It's definitely an ambiguous plot hole. And one I don't believe the writers will ever be able to recover from in any way that make sense.

I don't think it would matter what Yoda Vader faced, it'd of been too much of a handicap for Vader as he's nowhere near as mobile as Anakin Skywalker was, and anyone who's seen Yoda fight knows mobility is a must, and while Vader could theoretically draw upon the force to aid him even more so on Dagobah for some odd reason I feel a damp swamp planet and clunky robotics just would not mix well.

This was already explained. Sideous ordered Vader to not pursue Obi-Wan & Yoda. Obi-Wan because Sideous was afraid of the potetial that Anakin could return to the light side or die if he confronted Obi-Wan again, and Yoda because Sideous couldn't even beat him so he knew for sure Vader couldn't. Not hunting down Yoda & Obi-Wan was unnecessary because they already had the entire galaxy in their hands, it was too risky to take the chance.

Mace told Anakin to sit down when Anakin was yelling in a meeting. That's not "putting him in his place", that's reprimanding an unruly Jedi. No one was holding Anakin down, that was Palpatine whispering lies in Anakin's ear. The truth that Anakin didn't want to face was that he was too uncontrolled to be a Master, too emotional and too undisciplined. Why would they make someone like that a Master?

If Vader hadn't been burned, that means he killed Obi-Wan on Mustafar. This would make him even more brash and arrogant, and I could absolutely see him chasing down Yoda after the Empire's power was consolidated.
Yoda would've mopped the floor with Vader or full-potential Anakin in the timeframe they would've met. Only way Vader wins is ten or fifteen years later if he's full-potential. Any other duel would've seen Yoda's skill demonstrating why Anakin should have taken his studies more seriously. It would've been Anakin's final duel with Tyrannus, but reversed: an almost close battle where Yoda exploits openings until Anakin is incapacitated and killed. Yoda's battle with Dooku in AotC is an even better example of what would happen.

I think the only reason there wasn’t another battle between yoda and any sith was because in ep 3 yoda was hurt mentally and that leads to the dark side and yoda is just too wise to fall into anything like that so he chose patience. he could’ve easily taken out vader for sure. On top of that sidious would have to face a darker more angry yoda using all of his power to bring him down and we all know how wise and powerful yoda was in the force, imagine him not limited anymore by the morals of a jedi. I would have left yoda alone too.

Darth Vader didn't care for most of the Jedi. His primary reason for searching for Jedi was to gain a chance at finding Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan Kenobi had become the beacon of hate for Vader, he blamed him for poisoning Padme against him, he blamed him for his disfigurement. Obi-Wan was always the goal, if he found Jedi and it wasn't Kenobi then they would just be a convenient scape goat for his rage.
If he found Yoda he would've dealt with him should it come to that. Vader simply wasn't personally invested in Yoda there was no personal beef between the two, Grandmaster was simply just another Jedi to Lord Vader.

Yoda went to Dagobah for a reason. The Dark Side of the Force that inhablited the cave was very strong there, and served to prevent the Sith from being able to reach out and sense Yoda, who's strength in the Force would have otherwise made it hard for him to remain hidden for very long. Darth Sidious was able to keep his identity as a Sith Lord hidden from the Jedi for decades despite being in close contact with Jedi masters, which speaks to his level of knowledge and power in the Force. Force-sensitve individuals can sense each other, like Force radar, the stronger they are, the louder they are, for lack of a better term.
