I would have loved to have seen Darth Maul in Episodes 7-9. George Lucas wrote eight different scripts post ROTJ. One of them consisted of Maul rebuilding the Sith. And Luke likewise rebuilding The New Jedi Order. And in doing so, both clash. Darth Talon would have been introduced also. Aswell as Ben Skywalker and the Solo twins. But unfortunately, we got the abysmal Disney trilogy. Plus, after the trilogy, it was muted that Luke (and Obi-Wan) would redeem Maul. But unfortunately we will never see this.

      Honestly
Maul should've been kept alive throughout the majority of the Prequel trilogy just to have an overarching antagonist that's not Palpatine cause what we got we already knew Palpatine was Sidious
They should've kept that reveal until midway through Episode 3 after what Anakin did something in front of Palpatine

He kinda succeeded in proving that point without the arrogance, Qui-gon did prove himself to be a better jedi because he rejected the politics' influence on the jedi order, even when it meant going against the jedi code itself. He believed that being a better jedi meant following the will of the force above all else. As a result, he was the first of only three jedi in that entire jedi order to be trained to manifest consciousness after death. He was even the one to train Yoda and later Obi-wan. He did prove himself to be the best jedi's jedi, not to prove a point, but to simply be who, what, and where the force needed him to be to ensure the galaxy is better for it. None in the jedi order lived up to that, instead they died stuck in the past, in stagnation, and in dogmatic tradition, which included being in bed with all things Republic politics.

"I am your enemy, the first one you've ever had who was smarter than you. There is no teacher but the enemy. No one but the enemy will tell you what the enemy is going to do. No one but the enemy will ever teach you how to destroy and conquer. Only the enemy shows you where you are weak. Only the enemy tells you where he is strong. And the rules of the game are what you can do to him and what you can stop him from doing to you. I am your enemy from now on. From now on I am your teacher.” --Mazer Rackham.
Because such enemies, if you are unfortunate enough to acquire such, and cannot find peace with honor, are implacable. Best to find common ground and stand down. To do this, one must let go of emotion.

Why did Qui-Gon rush headlong into the reactor room to fight Maul solo anyway? I'm sure he would have been aware of himself tiring, and that he would also have been at a disadvantage using Ataru in that tight space. And since the novel said he felt no hatred for Maul, then he also wasn't controlled by bloodlust at that point.

    • @daviddegeorge2667

Man had a job to do. Like Gurney Hallack of Dune said: “What has mood to do with it? You fight when the necessity arises-no matter the mood! Mood's a thing for cattle or making love or playing the baliset. It's not for fighting.” The Sith will easily cloud the minds of non adepts. Coercion, a great evil. Consider Padme, as an example. Should he leave Maul to his own devices? Such a skilled combatant?, With such strength? No way.

There's three mistakes Kenobi makes earlier in the duel that would have killed him, and Qui gon has to cover for him. So I think he thought he could fight fully if he was separated from Kenobi, along with feeling his fear and wanting to protect him.

Because for plot reasons. Thats the point of "Duel of the Fates". If Qui Gon didn't die then Anakin would not have fallen. When you start a series like Star Wars in the middle like Lucas did with New Hope, it meant that everything that happened before was set in stone. You cannot have the events of the OG movies without Obi Wan being Anakin's mentor. Obi Wan even says that the circumstances of Anakin coming to him were complicated in Episode 6 iirc (when Luke went back to Yoda and questioned him and Ben about Anakin).

So I’ve been mauling this over for a while and can’t settle on a definitive answer.
The Force actively (talks to) “directs” Qui-Gin, albeit, in obscure ways. We can determine this from the novels.
Example 😂: Qui straight up blitzed & murdered unaware enemies, because he felt the Force needed him to (to either create Balance, or, possibly to stop said being from doing something evil. Lol he never knew, but didn’t question the whim either).
So! *Anyone else convinced that he knew he was going to die?* In the end, there was no fear, he simply told Obi-Wan to train Anakin.

this view of the jedi as the saviors that never showed up would have made Maul a superior antagonist than Dooku, in every way Anakin is the luck brat that got spoon fed everything Maul wanted. Anakin was even the apprentice that Sedious truly wanted, where Maul was just an assasin and a tool. Maul could have used this connection to much more effectively bring out Anakin's hatred, being more relateable so their connection through the force would be stronger through a sense of kinship for the darkness in both of their hearts. Maul would have also been e better rallying symbol for the outer rim and separatist worlds because of this. a Jedi seasing to be the senate's lap dog is one thing but someone who's lived through suffereng they lived through, were going through, or that they feared could come an any moment is much more compelling. him showing Anakin the path he could have been forced to walk but also the power that suffering provided would also fit natively with these 2.
this would have also made Obiwan's views of Maul more complicated, as he would eventually sense this kinship and that the boy his master wanted him to train was slipping away at times through something he laments that he will never truly understand.

If Qui-gon Jinn and Darth Maul's physical strength are equal that means the strikes will cancel out, yet Quigon is basically using a sword against a versitile staff.
Qui-gon's strikes are very well coordinated and graceful yet his muscle strength is similar.
In realswordsmanship a longsword can block a greatsword for even a guy who is 173 cm can block a muscular dude using a greatsword; it's the good and balanced structure that makes a solid bracing.
So Qui-gon Jinn swung the blade almost hitting maul, yet maul was injured beforehand?

It’s interesting that Maul regrets playing tricks on Qui-Gon, yet tried the exact same move against Obi-Wan in their final duel on Tatooine. Obi-Wan suckered Maul into using the same move by shifting to Ataru and then sliced Maul right down the middle in a duel that lasted three blade strokes. I guess Maul’s hatred of Obi-Wan prevented any similar sort of respect for the padawan turned Jedi Master.

Really good, I should read these books. That last bit about how Obi-wan learned from Qui-gon how to center himself and to detach his emotions from the moment, is why ultimately, I can't like Obi-wan. He was a terrible teacher in the end. A good Jedi, but he had one of the best teachers of that era, a direct lineage of tutelage from Yoda, but he was unable to deliver that knowledge and wisdom in a form palatable to the young Skywalker. I don't blame him for the creation of Vader, but Qui-gon was the better teacher.

Ironically enough, the killing hit from Obi-Wan was highly against the rules of the Jedi Counsel. Cutting somebody in half would cauterize the body as it's cut in half; leading to a slow and painful death.
Apparently the blade of lightsabers are supposed the be hotter than the sun. So a single stab was deadly because it cooked your insides.

That moment in Episode 1 where Qui-Gon disengages from combat and meditates while Obi-Wan is shown to be sweating, and uneasy was perfect. As soon as the beams turned back off, his eyes immediately opened, and he was back on the attack again. It showed the miles and miles of difference in a Jedi Padawan (not even a Jedi Knight yet), and a long time Jedi Master. To be able to remain centered while facing a Sith Lord in the first confrontation in 1000 years shows what it really means to be a fully complete Jedi Master. Qui-Gon wasn't even afraid of the possibility of dying. The Force was truly his ally. He fought with no hatred, or malice. It was all business for the protection of a galaxy which was known to be better off without the Sith.

Honestly, Maul could have taken on an even greater master and still won (assuming his pride and arrogance didnt get in the way like it did on Naboo). But Qui-Gon wasnt an ordinary Jedi Master, he was an Ataru specialist and was no stranger to duels as his own master was a master duelist, despite the era.
Qui-Gon was considered a "maverick" in the Jedi Order and definitely gave Maul a run for his money. That and the dual went on way too long, so i say its no wonder he took him out with a cheap shot.

Maul was unstable while still an infant on Dathomir. It didn't help when Mother Talzin dropped him off to a Sith Lord.
When Maul dueled Qui-Gon he knew he wasn't a full Sith. He was hoping to one day earn enough respect to be given the opportunity to be the main apprentice to Palpatine, once he killed off his master. Maul suspected there were other apprentices, so it wouldn't be an automatic promotion. Defeating a Jedi Master would go a long way towards Sidious making him a true Sith.

In Legends in terms of weapon mastery Maul was a low eight level duelist tied with Plo Koon with Qui Gon being a high seven duelist and Dooku/Mace being Mid eight duelists and Yoda being a high eight level duelist around TPM Era so only Jedi that could of beat Maul on even ground with a lightsaber and no cheap shots where Yoda, Dooku, And Mace while Plo Koon would of been Mauls equal with the blade and Qui Gon inferior yeah.

      @lordbalthosadinferni4384 Před 2 měsíci

@matthemann8969 It's going to be very difficult for anyone to take your arguments, here or elsewhere, seriously when you cannot communicate effectively or remain consistent. "In Legends, in terms of weapon mastery, Maul was a low eighth level duelist..." (punctuation, spelling). "Could have" not "Could of" (could of sounds like could've, the contraction of could have, but doesn't actually mean anything). Would have, not would of. Is the higher level of skill *eighth* or *seventh*? What is the difference between high eighth, mid eighth, low eighth, and high seventh levels of skill? As for your source, legends isn't canon, but can occasionally be useful for context and scaling- however, stats does not equal good writing and Star Wars is like poetry- it rhymes. Qui Gon was going to be slain by a Sith in service of the hero's journey just as Obi-Wan one day would. Don't take my criticism as a personal attack or needless grammar nazism- I simply pity someone that cannot write. Communication is an incredibly important skill, just as much in our modern age of exploitation as it was twenty thousand years ago when your ancestors were killing wild beasts with rocks so that they could eat that week. Half of your paragraph is meaningless due to lack of context, and I haven't even mentioned how factually incorrect your conclusion is- and that part relies on the half that is inconsistent with no context! I don't want to assume you're a sixth grader that doesn't pay attention in English, but you write like a sixth grader that doesn't pay attention in English. If you are simply underpriviledged or English is your second+ language, then as someone who only starves sometimes and lives in the richest country on earth- my bad. Otherwise I highly recommend some tutoring and educating yourself on what a relevant source is.
