    "They can send a man to the moon, but..." The "but" in this case means they can't make a car cover that lasts over about a year, _regardless_ of price. Or rather, they _won't_ make a cover that lasts more than about a year, due to something called "planned obsolescence." I ran through (read: "wasted my money on") two of those custom-fit $250 outdoor covers before I wised up. You know - the ones that look and feel like a thick Bounty paper towel, that are waterproof for no longer than about a month, because the waterproof coating wears off after about that amount of time.
    Feral cats in the neighborhood found the second one literally overnight after it was first installed, and started using it for a scratching post, so there's another fun thing I had to deal with. So _they_ got some great use out of it.
    But both of them started disintegrating (ripped/tore/dry-rotted) after about a year anyway. These covers - again, regardless of price - are a disposable product, and as noted above, you're best to spend something like no more than $65 to $75 for that one year of use. They _could_ make a cover that would last much longer, but it would cost much more than even $250, and makers aren't willing to explore that price point. And why would they, as long as they can rip people off (no pun) by cranking out gobs of cheap-to-make product?
    And Amazon reviews are as unreliable for outside car covers as they are for anything else, due to the high number of fake (paid) reviews - so you can take a lot of those reviews with a grain of salt. Having said that, if you pay attention to all the negative reviews, you'll notice lots of pictures of short-lived, disintegrating car covers. Believe those!! -Thanks for the _honest_ review.

    TYVM for very helpful video. Shouldn't need to double down with tarp over cover. Same, here it takes 3 mins to hose down your car. Most reviews make me laugh, never the slightest breeze, not even 10mph. Im in tropical sun, high wind area. I also bought a Kayme, with high wind straps, which at Kayme arent the junk bungees, but they do subject the edges to hook stress. I hope mine does better than 1 year. I dont drag cover on ground as some do. I'll hope to get more than a year.Your assessment is well thought out.👍🏻

    Thanks much for the review. Greatly appreciate your honest review! In my experience, seems sun weakens many covers within a year. I had and heavy duty Oxgord Motorcycle cover that was pricey for a MC but has stayed flexible and study with no noticeable weakening over 2 years and has dealt with sun and snow equally well. Only disagreement with your review is that somehow the weaking is partially your fault, I disagree. It is false misleading advertising that has us spend good money on items they know will not last. Impossible to know honesty from lie on internet EXCEPT for people like you. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

    Thank you for making this video. Maybe an ebay person sent me the wrong box a few years ago. Granted I purchased a car cover and they sent an RV Cover LMAO.
    Anyway that damn thing was if my memory is correct 5 times thicker or a hundred times more rigid than the 9 layer I received a few weeks ago from an ebay purchase. It really has me perplexed and yours has door zippers, this one doesn't. It doesn't even have mirror cutouts or the weird looking headlight area. It just looks like the gray portion only.

      @@mikeshorsepowergarage7577 okay from the message you left it tells me that I'm not completely stupid.
      I've only ever seen 2 auto covers in my lifetime and about 3 years apart. I mean the one I just put on my 1985 Z28 Camaro and the RV COVER I got when I purchased the Christmas Present I mentioned above.
      I mean my memory says it was thick like moderate cardboard. Not a cereal box and not the heaviest stuff known to man. But the time span kept making me feel like I didn't remember correctly.

    He's right about not washing a car cover. Always wash your car (or hose it off and dry it) before putting on a car cover. Once a week go over the exterior of the car cover with a soft feather duster to get rid of the dust on the exterior of the cover. Otherwise, great video.

    i had the same problem with all others as you did with the car getting covered with a powder after a few months.

    • @ThomasKOdell
      @ThomasKOdell Před rokem

      I really don't think you're going to get a whole lot more life out of an expensive cover. Plus any cover is going to get beaten up with dirt and bird poop after time outside.
      I wound up putting my car in a storage unit close by so I've cut back on my use of a car cover. If I'm not going to drive my car for awhile even though it's in the storage unit, I put the cover on to protect my car from the inside dust which IS a problem. I broke my leg in January and couldn't even get to my car for 2 months. Obviously, I couldn't get it covered. In March, I got the go ahead to walking and driving again. When I went to my storage unit, my car was a mess with dust ... after just 2 months.
      One thing I do is keep a feather duster handy to dust off the car cover while it's on the car. I don't believe in washing car covers as Mike went over in the video and using a feather duster on the cover when it's on the car really helps keep it clean.
      Whatever my future needs are for a car cover, I won't buy a cheap one because the material for the lining is usually poor quality and will scratch your paint. I won't buy an expensive one either because I don't believe they hold up long enough to pay for themselves. I think the happy medium is a $70-ish cover than you plan on replacing once a year.

I’ve started searching and have found a lot of car cover manufacturers with a lot of price points and warranty claims. Maybe just stay with the Kayme and figure on replacing it yearly will be money ahead. Take care.
