- Are you thinking of buying WeatherTech Floor Liners for your car, watch this video to help you decide if they are worth it when comparing the pros & cons. Using these for over 3 years, in this video I share 5 things I have enjoyed about them and 5 things that I find to be disappointing when spending $200.

The newer and improved one is called floorliner HP. Many say it's definitely an improvement over the old one because it's made of more rubber in the compound, hopefully no more bending and curling on the edges.
I got my Weathertech floor and trunk liners for my 2012 Toyota Camry SE about 3 weeks after I bought the car itself, and I must say that I’ve pretty much had a love/hate relationship with them ever since. On the ‘Love’ side of the equation: 1. They really DO help keep your car’s native carpeting clean, ESPECIALLY in rough winters like those here in southern WV; 2. When they’re either brand-spanking new or freshly cleaned, dressed, and detailed, they look pretty damn sharp; 3. They help bump up the Kelly Blue Book value of your ride either when you trade it in at a dealership or sell it yourself on the private market, even if it’s only by a minor amount. Now for the ‘Hate’ side of the coin: 1. They are a BITCH to clean and dress and take FOREVER to dry out completely; 2. Even after you clean them, they still look kinda chalky and it’s at this point that you’ve got no choice but to bust out the Stoner Trim Shine, some microfiber towels, a tire brush, and pretty much go to town on them so as to get them to look remotely as nice as they did when the UPS guy first brought them to your doorstep. By the time you get done with the whole process, you’ve added another hour or two to your weekend detailing project in toto; 3. If you’re like me and live in an apartment or condo and don’t have your own driveway (let alone a power washer and all of its wonderful acoutrements), you’ve pretty much got no choice but to go to one of the self-serve bays at your local car wash and wash them there, and even then, you run the risk of a ‘Karen’ or a ‘Ken’ getting in line right behind you and complaining to the car wash management (or God forbid THE COPS in my case) that you’re ‘bucket washing’ your car, when all you’re really doing is trying to dry off your soaking-wet liners before you even DREAM of putting them back atop the hopefully-still-clean carpeting in your vehicle. So having said that, I think I’ve made the best decision of all: I’ve since ordered both carpeted AND rubber OEM mats from Superior Toyota of Parkersburg via parts.toyota.com and I can now skip the odeous process of detailing these simply by slipping them into the Rhino mat cleaning machines at my local mega subscription car wash. That said, Weathertechs are nice but really not worth it in the end…

That was a great read and thank you for confirming my suspicions on these. Told the dealer I didn’t want them on my 4runner spec sheet and they removed them.

I really don’t want to see other people making the same mistake I made and spend money quite foolishly on something that at best was only of marginal benefit to myself and my car. As I’d said before, the genuine OEM all-weather mats I got from Superior Toyota (Parkersburg, WV) have been fantastic and I just wish I’d gone that route in the first place. And hey: you can’t beat their ease of maintenance either!
@@sebastianromero420 I find it fuckin’ hilarious that he’s ragging on me for driving a Toyota Camry. For all we know, he may very well indeed drive something like a Mercedes or a Bimmer, but those maintenance/repairs will most likely bankrupt him when said car ultimately breaks down. But that cachet factor, though…🙄🚘
For a snugger fit just grab your heating gun and a smooth roller like they use to apply Dynamat.
My liners are 7 yrs old and look the same the day i bought them. I clean them with Murphys oil spray and it comes out perfect. Use a brush for stubborn spots. Mine have also never curled either

I DO enjoy my Weathertech front liners in my '01 PT Cruiser and they fit really, really well, no foot hang-ups when driving.
I guess that model is a lucky one.

@@JohnW118 I bought a set for my '21 Lexus RX 350 and the fit wasn't exactly what I expected given the price for them. Not too happy about that. I really do hope Weathertech address these issues and come out with V2.0 or something because they're not cheap.
You are NOT supposed to install the floor liner over the original liner. You are SUPPOSED to remove the original liner BEFORE installing the Weathertech liner. This is OUTLINED in the installation instructions!
Yes and i dont have my original ones under the weathertechs in the video, but i tried it with them and fitment is almost identical, so technically if one wanted to they could provided the original ones are thin enough.
Wrong, you install the original liner over the weather tech. Why would you want to leave your expensive weathertech unprotected?

I noticed that the ones I bought for my daughter's 2006 Corolla had the curling issue. It is because the sides are thin. With vehicle ingress and egress, they bend inward, allowing for spilled liquids to get behind and underneath the liners. This hides the mess and allows the issue to get worse. Thus negating the purpose of the liners.
Best to get thick 3D Mats or an extraction tool.
Oof, I have a 2006 corolla s and was wondering these were a "perfect" fit or would have that curling issue people mention. I've been spending days carpet washing and vacuuming my car and am over it lol I'm trying to make a good decision though before I put down money for the long run. Thanks for your comment!

Warning: Certain manufacturers (ie. Toyota) recommended against laying floor liners on top of floor mats. This unsafe practice can lead to what’s known as “pedal entrapment” and can cause a dangerous loss of control. Do not follow this advice unless you want uncontrollable full throttle acceleration. Toyota had a recall back around 2010 for this very issue.
Thank you the detailed review. After watching a few others as well I think I’ve decided Weathertech is not for me. If I’m going to spend that kind of money on protecting my vehicle’s carpeting I’ll probably go with Tuxmat and get a more thorough coverage area/fit. Thanks for the video!!
Well, I am very disappointed in my WeatherTech liners. All 4 of them, the sides are curling over. Several months back I post my honest review of my WeatherTech floor mats for my vehicle (2009 Pontiac G8). I was not happy, so the review was not a favorable one. But you couldn’t have a bad review on their website, because they took it down. I was contacted and offered free replacement mats. I told the person who contacted me, I would update my review after I put them in and take the car out of storage if they were better. (Which I can’t do since it has been removed) The replacements I received are of just as bad quality as the originals. These things are DANGEROUS and should be pulled from sales. They curl in, right where the drivers foot is. So when you release the brake and go to step on the gas, 1 of 2 things happen.
1. You step on the floor mat instead of the gas as cars are honking at you cuz the light is green and you’re not moving.
2. You step on the floor mat instead of the gas and as you step down harder, your foot suddenly breaks free from the mat and slams down on the gas, which in the case of my car, causes it to launch HARD, spin the tires, and fishtail. (Really Officer, it was the floor mats fault)
I have contacted them yet again , this time demanding a refund. They are a lot of money and should not be this bad.
The new HP mats don't curl and are a perfect fit i have them in 2 of my vehicles.
The dirty look problem really gets me. Cause the whole point for me of buying this type of product is to make the car cleaner. But ot doesnt feel like it when i get in the car. Even i freaking detail the thing. And im not of fan of chemicals cause im super afraid of cancer. So im not gonna spray them with the waxy spray.

I bought the WT liners for my wife's KIA Sportage because she doesn't kick the snow off her shoes before she gets in, didn't work she still got salt on the carpet...

I Agree... Weather Tech are the best floor liners.
I'd say after seeing this, get the gray ones, hit the whole thin egde with a heat gun and bend slightly outward before installing, maybe bringing the heat gun to car to fine tune the fit. Would have to add an overlapping piece for under the pedals or maybe rivet a flap the the driver side to extend under the pedals. But for 200+ bucks and to have to do all tha sucks.

The edges on mine curled too over time. I’m going to try a different material weathertech makes and its flexible rubber so to say.
The fact that the bent corners sit higher is ok, I guess with some velcro, it will go away 🤷♀
They changed the new ones so they go behind the pedals and the running boards.

So then if you live like a slob and you use your vehicle for a garbage dump then the Weathertech floor mates aren't that good?
I like mine buy they stunk like dead fish when first opened. I tried dish soap, vinegar and airing them out in the sun for days, didn't help much. I ended up shoving them back in the box with an ozone machine. Even after a 2-3 treatments they still stunk, though much less. The remaining smell faded over time.
Koch Chemie Gum Fix is a good none slip dressing for floor mats.

Thank You for your help in making a better decision , what would you say about the weather tech mats vs the liner. I have reseller giving them for a $10 difference. The liners look oler and of course it made me think of those curves
Just use a rubber/plastic/vinyl spray for a newer look if the scratches bother you aha
they have a new model that cover more on the back for the carpet and the pedals
I'd try to use armor all or black magic or some kind of product that can make it look shiny or new again. Just like tires or plastic pcs on your car all rubber and plastic gets dull.
Absolutely do not do this. Getting something like Armor All on the brake/gas/pedal is extremely dangerous. Anything like that on the mat will transfer to the pedals.
Try velcro to make it fit better

Driver side gaps allow water and salt to go underneath....thus garbage floor liners. But tux mat...cheaper and 1000% better

I’m just now realizing the reason the driver side floor liner is so low on your car is because it’s stick … it’s so it doesn’t interfere with the clutch pedal … (makes sense)
Yes they get chalky after cleaning big deal its better to have these take all the damage and beating to save your vehicles carpet which would cost alot more to buy and install new carpet than buying these $200 mats it's a no brainer to put them in any vehicle you own cars have very delicate carpet and without floor mats the driver side will get holes in it very quickly and wear spots
Even with the curling you're still getting a lot of carpet protection.
Use a hair dryer to remold the liner.

I never use any dressing on them. I pressure wash, soap and brush perfectly, just rinse well, and use blower to dry. If left drying alone, you will probably have some water spots left. But the point is to wash them. I do them weekly. And they still black. I use PH neutral shampoo. I doubt dressings are PH balanced…
I just bought new Weathertech's..NEVER AGAIN..144 bucks just for the front.They do not fit as well as my old ones.Under the seat there's almost 1/4 inch gap..my old ones were totally snug.The lip by the door wasn't snug from day one.Always sticks up.My old ones were super snug and made with real precision .I never took them out for they were rigid and snug and were not easy to take out.

I wish that I had seen this video before I purchased these liners for my Hyundai Elantra in Feb 2024. My only complaint is that they are too difficult to clean. Just like in this video, the dirt and dust seem to stick to the liner, which has a rubber-type surface. When I purchased them, I thought that they had a smooth surface like the Husky brand that I purchased for my wife’s vehicle a few years ago.
I wonder if Velcro would keep the edges flush to the carpet
Thats a good point, most of my hard curls developed from people getting in and put the car and stepping on the corners, so velcro would not help with that
Is this the HP liner version and on the wax spray do you wipe it off to make it shiny or let it dry. Can u show the tan version?
Not sure, i no longer have these. Spray wax i spray and wipe off. Tan version maybe in the future.
a heat gun used correctly could fix the footwell fitment.

I don’t like the way they feel under your boots or shoes. A very hard plastic mat doesn’t feel very comfortable. I prefer rubber or carpet.
u may be able to remedy the curling by using a hair dryer on hot and holding in place until it hardens again?

You forgot mention having a small car the weather tech reaches beyond the pedals and foot rest😂 not to brag but they fit perfect in Fiat 500

They do. I own a pair for just front seats, and i will never buy any others. Mudflaps are convenient too, if want to really protect your paint from rockchips

those are the old version... you can tell by the red badge. Those are thermal formed plastic. The HP's are injection molded rubber.
I purchased Wades Sure fit. They fit like a glove and cover the door sill. I love them!!
