The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Legend Sam Cooke. Who else is here in 2024???
I'm here
✌️
That “𝑀𝓎, 𝓂𝓎, 𝓂𝓎, 𝓂𝓎, 𝓂𝓎, 𝓂𝓎𝓎𝓎𝓎𝓎𝓎” hits way too hard, I can’t stop rewinding it 😭
Same lol
Yup❤️
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I keep rewinding that “Wheneverwheneverwheneverwheneverwhenever you are in sight”😂😂😂
Sam was literally on one with this song lol can’t believe this man was this fine and cool
Sam only made two appearances on the Ed Sullivan show. The first time, he was on at the very end of the show and his song, "You Send Me" got cut off, so Ed had him back a month later to sing "You Send Me" in its entirety and "I Love You for Sentimental Reasons". This is from the same episode that featured Buddy Holly, Bobby Helms, the Rays and the Glenn Miller orchestra.
Wow ! what a line up 🤩
It didn’t get cut off.. well it did on this channel, you can look at Motown today’s Channel and see the full thing
@@theog2315 I specified in my comment that the performance was cut off on his first appearance (which, as far as I know, has never been released for that reason), but that Ed had Sam back a month later to sing "You Send Me" again in its entirety. The second appearance and full performance of "You Send Me" is the one you are referring to.
@@TomElvisSmith Tom I see that your a real Vocalists fan, Sam and Nat from a few days ago. Do you know Jesse Belvin's version of this song?
@@kensmith8546 Yes, I love pop music vocalists from the '50's and early '60's! I have not heard Jesse's version, but I will have to check it out. I'm a big fan of Jesse's recording of "Guess Who".
The Greatest Voice Ever...The King Of Soul
This song is wonderful. My father was a big fan, passed away three years ago and I was missing him tonight. This video just came on television. Exactly what I needed, when I needed.
I’m so sorry for your loss
That “mmmmm” at 0:27 sent meeee😩.. sam was handsome child but when he opened his mouth and sang that made his beauty 1000000 times better🥺..
This big voice inside of this man inspired many generations after him. Incredible.
Mr. Sam Cooke - Enough said ❤️❤️❤️
Look at his suit - timeless ; nothing like those old time suits with bright colors... Great style, Sam.
Sam had that incredible voice that you can hear over and over rip sam
Sam Cook was a great singer. He got the blessing of God in his voice. I love its performance here. A CHANGE IS COMING had never had a video or live performance, anyways l love his soul music
Absolutely. Another gift of music, gone too soon. His version of 'Summertime,' is my favorite of all I have heard.
A Change Is Gonna Come was released after he was killed.
@@Tye710 I won't say overshadowed. It was seen as a political song as it was civil-rights related. So I believe the tape was destroyed for that reason
Godddd leeeeee ❤❤❤he's so dreamy
Maestro do soul
Part of this video is on IG without the background....just hearing him alone is amazing
ed sullivan show was the Best! 💯
I'm in my 60s, tv has sure gone down the tubes for me. No more great variety shows, terrible in my opinion
Beautiful man! Gorgeous voice!
His voice is elegant.
I grew up during the 50's and can attest to the fact that artists and songs of this beautiful romantic caliber encouraged us to marry very young, which we did. And most of the marriages lasted many many years.
This is SOUL. The Best Ever. Thank you. Ain't nothing like the REAL THING! SENSATIONAL BEAUTIFUL HEAVENLY AWESOME!!!
He was so beautiful ❤️
Well ladies it was a nice walk down memory lane with you all! Best morning I have had since losing my wonderful husband of 52 years passed 3 years ago . I have really enjoyed all the comments that made my day! Best years of my life! We had the best years! Let hope for a better future for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! ❤️
my condolences, wishing your family the best
So classy! 👌
Im so mesmerized im tearing up ❤
Little known trivia: Berry Gordy tried his damnest to make a movie on Cooke back in the 1960's. Marvin Gaye was slated to portray him. Never came about because at that time Gordy couldn't get the permission/ rights to use Cooke's music.
Wow. That's interesting. I'm surprised he didn't pursue a nat king cole biopic - seeing as how that's the path Marvin orginally wanted to take.
@@JaySmith-wo3di Just to be factual here....it's show BUSINESS. (big BUSINESS) Producers in the day would never do a Afro-American biopic. No money in it, the market would be small. Things have changed. Most folks don't know or care about Sam Cooke (I do). Hopefully money will find its way to this subject.
What a shame. Wish they were able to carry on with the project 🙁
Marvin was uneasy about the idea of playing Sam, from what I read in David Ritz's biography.
@@flashfish123 people don't care yet he's more popular now than he's been for a long time and that is factual. Watch the movie one night in Miami that wouldn't be made if nobody cared
He could sing amazing and he was very handsome this man could make you swoon and fall in love with him very easily ❤️
Beautiful song by sam cooke
Sam Cooke was a pretty boy gotta give him his props
Yes, Sam was Gorgeous!!!
He was very active.......
And boy did he know it
Sam Cook Great R&B Singer, everytime🎤♥️
A very underrated & once in a generation voice. Imagine what he would’ve brought to the table had he not been murdered. He doesn’t have one bad song, his voice is as smooth as silk.
Sam Cooke est le plus grand chanteur de Soul. Il est parti trop tôt et c'est bien dommage pour le monde. Quels chef-d'œuvres il aurait créé s'il avait vécu plus longtemps.
THE ACAPELLA VERSION TO THIS IS SOOO MUCH BETTER miss him so much
Simply the best version by Sam!!! A wonderful performance.. He sends me !!
Sam Cooke, in the fifties, usually recorded this type of music (fox-ballads)... He was very fine doing it.
He also performed “you send me” too right?
You are correct, sir. The only two songs he performed on the Ed Sullivan show.
The greatest indeed! hands down!
Ahhhh!!!Sam Cooke❗❗❗😍😩😌
absolutely incredible!
I NO HE GOT ALL THE WOMEN MY GOD BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED,CHARMING MAN❤❤❤❤❤❤ such a talent by gosh
He gets me everytime with that mmmmmm hum that shit so legendary!!
His phrasing and tone
Amazing
I would have married this man in a minute🥰
Que linda canção. Pena que ele faleceu tão novo.
Great voice
I’m a kid and I sound like Sam Cooke He’s the best and Ed Sullivan.
So so great
Un ARTISTA IRREPETIBLE... No merecia ese tragico final... Dan ganas de llorar saber que nunca mas existiran estos cantantes increibles, y tendremos que seguir oyendo la bazofia que hay ahora...
They will continue to inspire new generations ❤
😭I love this song
My hero. Some of these cats was blessed by god. Wish I was around back then
Wonderful
besides the greatest soul singer, sam was also great at phrasing

Heart Pains 🥺
♥️♥️♥️♥️🌹
For all you folks that sing, how'd you like to follow that..?
When I first started dating I wouldn't let anybody know what my boyfriend looked like. When my sister came to visit, I ended against him to my sister. And she told me she says. Do you realize he looked exactly like Sam Cooke I said yes I do, Yes was not supposed to date out of my own race Fell in love when I was at the age of 14. We were going to get married when I turned 17. I felt he was my soulmate. We understood each other mentally delete. We had a spiritual connection. But it was forbidden love in my family tree. He was killed one night coming home from work. I have never found that deep low that connection ever since the song reminds me of my very first true love And I have been single Ever since
Is there anyway to get this song in ACAPELLA?
Amazing song and artist goddamn. Vamp life strong af though. You see those canines???
I thought Sam Cooke was mad at Ed because his performance was cut short due to the show ran out of time. This looked like a completed song to me
Sad how talented black musicians didn’t get much recognition due to race issues but wow the 50’s especially had some amazing music and talent.
Sad how he died 😢
arlene .,........u r not kidding
🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽😢
Phine
He was shot and killed by a woman at a motel under very strange circumstances. RIP
he was beat nearly to death then shot and killed. Hotel story is a complete lie.
@@TheGossipGyal I have been saying THE - EXACT - SAME - THING - MYSELF these past "several months" , That he was beaten to death and SHOT after the fact . Several friends & relatives have said that when they viewed his body at the funeral home they said that his hands & fingers were visibly broken , that his nose was smashed and mangled and that his "head" looked as though it was separated from his shoulders . My position on the matter is this : If what his Family & Friends said was in fact true , then I am of the sincere opinion that his family should get a court order to have his body exhumed and submitted to a 2nd. and more "intense" and "thorough" autopsy . And if a 2nd. Autopsy should substantiate people's observations , then that would "prove" that the 1st. autopsy was indeed a sham and that there was definitely skullduggery at play RE : his death !!!!! In my sincere opinion , this is something that should have been done some 35-40 years ago 🧐 !!!!
He was took out by the powers that be
This video is on IG and people in the comments said it was the lady he was with at the time and she ended up dating Bobby Womack after the fact
And this was supposed to be the music that brought about the downfall of Western Civilization? WTF!
wasnt this a controversial episode?
Stop With The Thumbnails !!!
The background singing sounds terrible. Not a good performance.
what a waste
