Gosh, watching this in 2024 wondering if those that were watching this in 1959-1960 knew they were watching a LEGEND. RIP Sam Cooke - one of the greatest of all time.

This was a watered down version for TV. He was better than that he was amazing! if you could catch him in a black club singing, how ever you couldn't be too black on TV then, so you had to give a watered down version of your hit song at that time. Sad but that's just how it was. Another thing white America and in the deep south for sure would change the channel when a black artist would come on.
When this guy opens his mouth to sing... your world is alright. He was blessed with that vocal gift.

Don’t make the mistake that just because someone is a truly gifted singer they cannot be a complicated human being. While I wasn’t there on the night of his getting shot, accounts by the motel manager (a black woman) and the female guest he took to the motel are pretty damning. It appears both accounts point to someone who seemed to have some kind of sex addiction in how he forced himself onto the girl and practically raped her before she escaped (her words) and then he charged naked into the manager’s office paranoidly assuming she was hiding the girl.
It's hard to believe he was only 33 when he passed. What a mark he managed to leave on the world; he moves the hearts and souls of generations beyond his own, and will continue to do so beyond ours.
Sam Cookes voice just touches the soul; brings tears to the eye and goosebumps. Such talent. WOW

The aura surrounding Sam Cooke is unreal; almost mythical. His talent and charisma were so enormous, without footage like this and his recordings, the sheer mention of him might’ve caused some folks to wonder if he really existed. While I am a fan of his, whoever placed Elvis ahead of Sam Cooke on Rolling Stone’s list of ‘The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time’ must not have seen or heard this incredible performance. His legions of fans across the world are blessed to have access to this footage.

I played this for my great grandmother while she was in hospice in the hospital. I remembered when grandad told me he used to sing this to her back in the 60s whenever she was upset with him and she would instantly start smiling and lighten up. Well I played it and around the 0:27 mark I could see a tear roll down her face. then another tear. I knew she was having a flashback because she squeezed my hand.
He certainly mastered the Rock n Roll beat. Love him.

I guess that's about the only way to respond to such a display of unreal talent as Sam Cooke possessed. I guess that If he was in Teddy Pendergrass or Barry White's time there would have been many panties thrown up there on that stage for such a mindblowing performance. He was truly a vocal beast, no doubt about it.
