David and Catherine Birnie were awful people and did some awful things. I hope I did the story justice, but it was pretty graphic.

I love this! I'm from Perth and I know someone who rented this house a few years ago. You forgot to mention that Kate, the one that got away, wasn't believed by the cops. A female cop was asked to take her statement and to throw it away as they didn't take Kate seriously, but the female cop really believed Kate and followed up on it. So glad she did!

West Aussie here and Kate Moir (last victim) has actually managed to champagne and change parole laws in WA to prevent killers walking early. She is a huge advocate for victims of violent crimes and does some amazing work 😊
Autocorrect gotcha on campaign but the point you made is absolutely incredible! I had no idea she was such a prominent advocate! Takes a lot of guts to revisit that trauma for the sake of other people.
I work in Law Enforcement in the Midwest of the United States, I admire her. She was brave and she came out determined to prevent what happened to her did not happen to other women. I have nothing but respect.

@@missjayzee9685 It's understandable that she is traumatised. It seems that, judging from her behaviour, she did not receive any or adequate therapy.
Victims receiving therapy should be mandatory and a part of a case, irrespective whether the criminals are caught or not.
We see the same terrible affects of ptsd and trauma in Tracy Edwards, dahmer's last victim, who escaped him and got him caught.

I grew up in Perth, and it's crazy how connected everyone is. It literally is such a small place. My mum grew up in Willagee, her highschool boyfriend used to walk their dogs when they went "camping"
Also Kate did more than just leave little notes, she shoved her bank cards in couch cushions and in mattresses, and tried to leave any sign of herself wherever she could. One other really clever thing she did (which my mum told me to do if I ever got abducted, lol) was when then Birnies asked her to write a letter to her family, she said that she would be "seeing -blank- very soon". I can't remember the name, but it was the name of a dead family dog, so she was trying to subtly tell them she was in danger.
I was thinking what could they write to make it like they were under duress. This entire story is sick. How can a person get away from this man, go and have a family, come back and do those things.

I’m from Perth also and David was the sleaziest, weediest looking guy ever. I remember him blowing a kiss to the lynch mob outside the courthouse, horrible man and Catherine wasn’t much better, vile couple. So glad David is dead now and apparently Catherine is like one of the top dogs at Bandiyup Womens prison. I don’t think Catherine will ever be released from prison, thank goodness.

Bailey! 2022 was a Dark year for me, i lost a job that I loved so much, I found out my family would turn their back on me at the first chance, I have cyclotymic disorder (not sure if that is the correct name in english tho) and all of your content, your chanel, your jokes, your sense of humor, the theme song... they were a life saver for me... I'm youngest of 10 kids, chaotic is an understatement! Also I married my husband on his birthday. He said "I was everything he ever wanted for a gift and gets to start each new year of his life knowing it's gonna be the best year, being with me". ❤️❤️ Just celebrated 11yrs married September 25th.

i saw a twitter thread bashing you and i just couldn’t believe how someone couldn’t absolutely fall in love with your personality and content. Not even having to do makeup or anything just solely the way you present the information and people LOVE IT. i can’t imagine how these people don’t see it
I too love Bailey's personality but the main argument behind people not liking her content is because the pleasant, light hearted way in which she presents real life tragedies, while doing makeup, ends up being insensitive and disrespectful to the victims.
I liked her too, but it’s the “awkward laughter” and extra commentary. It has become incessant, whereas before it just felt like a quirk it now comes off as her not taking it seriously and it’s just a check.

There's two sides to the true crime community. Those that was real life tragedies as entertainment. Which a lot of people find disrespectful and those that believe if you talk about the stories then it should be serious and for a purpose.

Hi! Could you do a story on Marc Dutroux? He's by far the most hated creature in Belgium, and I'm pretty sure everyone in Belgium knows about him. He locked up kids in his basement (and kidnapped them with his van), after spending time in prison already for similar things, and even spent time in prison while keeping kids in his basement. During his imprisonment, his wife let the kids starve to death. There were plenty of times where he should've been caught, and his wife recently got out. One of the girls (Sabine Dardenne) who survived, wrote a book about it, called 'I choose to live' in English. The literal translation of the Dutch title is 'I was 12 and drove my bike to school'. Belgium doesn't have the death penalty, and life in prison usually means people get 30 years, but I doubt he would ever get out, just for his own safety. I would understand this case might be a bit too brutal or too excessive to cover (because he was able to continue for far too long). However, I've known about this case my whole life, and only recently found out it was even worse than I thought, and I still don't know any background on him and his wife, and how they could've become such evil people.
This is wild but my ex dated Catherine’s grandaughter. Together they stole my kids for a total of 4 days. Citing that I was a danger to them (which was not true and I ended up with sole custody because of that). Both my exs girlfriend and her mother tried to convince me to drop the custody case (which I obviously couldn’t as I had to get a recovery order for the childrens return which had to be heard further in court) and when I refused they started a campaign to “get” me. Luckily my restraining order against my ex stopped that fast but gee I had a few phone calls and visit’s from them and I would say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree….

My favorite version of the theme song so far.
Before it was fun to see her make it unique each time just by nature of the fact that she sang it herself. Maybe it felt small to everyone else but it was so fun for me to see how she was feeling when she was recording. I totally understand that she had the right to take it away for what ever her reason was, no judgement, but seeing her bring it back without fanfare or emphasis just makes me happy for her for some reason 😊

Honestly Margaret sounds like a victim of not having access to reproductive care. She probably ended up with more kids than she wanted, she was home alone with them 24/7 bc her husband had to work to support their family. Likely depression, untreated post partum depression, and being overwhelmed. Keeping a house clean with one child is a mean feat, let alone 5. The alcohol was likely self medicating, the chain smoking self soothing. It's sad and had she gotten the help she needed, things may have been different.

These two were the living embodiment of my nightmares as a youngster in Perth in the late 80s.

This story reminds me of the girl under the bed. Remember that couple that picked up a young girl and it was for the husband they kept her in a box under the bed. It was something like 7years !!!she even had a child i think? But she made friends with the wife and somwhow at the end the wife just drove her to the bus station and let her go! If you havent done that one bailey you should!!! You probably have done that one. Anyway she is a hero and a testament of perseverance paying off in the end! Never give up! ❤️🙏🏿

My grandma and I created a safe word when I was like 5, a subtle nickname that she actually uses for me but I don't use so if I'm ever in danger I can use it and she will know immediately.
