Literally all you need to target your complete body are some rings or a pull up bar. That`s why I like calisthenics. And I`ve gotten very strong from it. Also, respect to Arnold for supporting calisthenics.
@@laslo3714 That's what the rings are for. Or just the floor. There are all kinds of push up variations from easy to insane. It is easier to isolate chest with free weights and machines, though. And easier to hit a specific intensity with that equipment. But you can still reasonably target your chest with calisthenics and minimal equipment.
Hey, ive watched your videos for a few years and a year ago i decided to change and become fit I went from almost 300 lbs to 230 (im 6'1) I can now do 6x3 pull ups , 12x3 dips , 15x3 leg raises . The fact is that Arnold encouraged everyone to do 6 months of bodyweight training before starting any weight lifting program.... He says this will help you skyrocket your gains in the gym... He says after starting a weight lifting program, many people keep doing some calisthenics while lifting weights... And he was definately right... when I learned this at the age of 12, I started Push ups and rows... 1 year later I went to gym and I was so surprised how I started to gain muscle and strength so fast.... everyone in the gym thought I was somehow enhanced but I wasn't... in just 1 year, I was able to lift a small car up until its back wheels in the air and I could walk like that pushing that car for minutes.... I was crazy strong and smart enough to see that this strength coming from weight lifting will cause me a lot of injuries and health problems sooner or later.... So I quit lifting weights and went back to calisthenics...since then I've been doing calisthenics and I'm a strong muscular (in a reasonable way of course) healthy happy old man... Push ups/Pull ups/Dips and Rows should be in everyone's training program....

My personal biggest reason why calistenics is that it train my body to move itself, which is what I do in most other situations in life where I need fitness. I find it helps me with a lot of unexpected life situations.
I love cali 'cause you don't even have to do actiual workouts, somethimes I just mess around with the basics and have fun. Of course for max effect you would do something planned, but not everyone needs that. Some people are happy with doing 5 pull ups, some want anime level strengh, AND BOTH ARE FINE
Being flexible and ripped in reality will make life longer and easier. Looking big, filling your muscles with water pockets, comes with complications and does not mean you are stronger. Some people do it right, but this is the real deal.
Calisthenics can free, but most people end up spending money on it. At one point I owned a home gym; a squat rack, barbell with 240 lbs of plates, a bench, totalled like 500 dollars. I sold it all and moved, got most of that money back. Into calisthenics now I bought a pull up bar to mount outside, paralletes, a couple sets of rings and straps, and a doorway pull up bar, and a weight vest, maybe totalling around 250 dollars. But I don't think the stuff will have as much resale value, or at least it will be a lot harder to sell it if I decide I don't want it anymore.
I always thought about doing calisthenics, but i never knew where to do it. probably in a calisthenic gym at some beach or whatever, i might search for it. still, i dont think i even know how to do a pull up. i can still do like, 40 pushups in sequence.
Calisthenics are definitely solid option of buidling muscle, but I would still prefer lifting weights. It might not be free, but at least you dont have to do 100 different exercises when some of them are extremly difficult especially for beginners. But in the the end only the effort you've put in matters, not the way of training.
