      Sure thing, here you go:
      Vuelta MTB Crankset:
      www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0081UV7LC?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
      JG Bike 32T Chainring:
      www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07WF39581?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
On Chainring pick color & tooth count. Assuming you may have stock Mongoose its 36 T.
I picked 32T we have moderate hills here in East Texas.
Were I in Colorado, I'd get 30T LOL.
On crank get best length. I think I got 170mm length by my fit.
      What I did was remove & basically toss the 22 32 & 42 rings.
The JG Bike ring is a Narrow-wide design to grab chain / prevent dropped chain.
If you try to do a 1X with a normal 32T like comes on it, every bump at the smaller rear cogs the chain will pop off.
      Super irritating !
You then install the 32T JG Bike chainring in middle position.
You can bolt it to outside face OR inside face of your new Vuelta crank 'Spider'.
Whether you choose to attach to either face moves chain 3mm further IN or OUT so this does efffect Chainline & thus shifting precision.
Basically in middle cog of rear cassette, chain should be straight / parallel with chainstay for optimum shift quality.
A nice quality KMC chain helps - the best there is in bike chains.
One more note: this Vuelta MTB Crankset bolts to stock square taper crank.
I kept mine stock just re-greased with Mobil 1 Syn Auto Grease & tightened carefully.
This is a huge BB & strong but not sealed from water intrusion.
      I don't care because I don't commute & ride in rain.
If I did I'd Upgrade to a "Sealed Bearing Square Taper".
Amazon has one for Fat Bike it's very wide & $45 ish.
If ever mine wears out Ill Upgrade to that one.
I tried to cover all relevant install & ordering aspects for this Crank & Chainring Upgrade.

      Hey EVERYONE:
I have sold my Malus reviewed here. It was & is FAB but Mongoose has released the highly Upgraded Dolomite ALX - and I decided to take the plunge & get one. It comes in a week.
Its got an 8# lighter weight owing to Alu frame vs Steel for earlier ones like my much loved one shown here !
The new owner was stoked yo get it for $500 all modded up.
So if you're not a FAT owner just yet - go watch reviews for the 2021 Dolomite ALX - there's ton of HIGHLY POSITIVE ones.
Yes Ill do a review once I've thrashed around these East Texas woods !

I have 2 that I purchased about six months apart from Academy.
    The tan ones.
    Front wheel hub went bad.
Cone nuts tightened up and crushed the bearing cups.
    It was warranted by Mongoose.
I do remove my front wheel every ride to fit in my car, so probably a factor.
Crank bearings toasted on the second.
Ordered replacements on eBay for my convenience.
    I did break one chain.
My first upgrade was the seat.
I got bigger butt seats with gel from Wally World.
    Best mod yet 😁
One got a sealed bottom bracket from eBay the same time as a crank upgrade.
Both now have Buclos (?) 38t x 24t crank and sprockets instead of the factory 36t.
No front derailleur. I just change it by hand if needed, but I find that I just leave it on the 24t for where I’ve been riding.
Seems to have solved my hill climb gearing issue.
No flats yet with the factory tires and tubes.
But I also don’t ride the urban or ghetto street locations like I used to.
I would like to upgrade to skewer axels or wheels when I find them available.
It’s not the best quality bike ever.
I would suggest going over it before your first ride and inspect it often.
But for the budget price, I have been having a blast with mine instead of just wishing I could afford something more expensive.
Oddly enough I have only seen one other one in the wild 🤔

Great video btw solidified my choice in upgrades instead of a new bike.i can do alot of upgrades and weight reduction for just the cost of a new malus.Ride On!🤔🤙🔥🔥🔥

Much better climbing. Not quite the top end.
Far less needful if you ride only flats / seldom any hills.

      Hey James -
      Glad you enjoyed it !
Yes these are crazy fun right ?
I'd love to 'give er a go' in snow but we're long ways from snow country here in Deep East Texas.
Do you do snowmobile trails or icy roads or ?
What PSI do you run there ?
PS: I just modded it to 9 speed 14 - 42 teeth. Should I do a video on it ?

    • @CoachJimJacobsen
      @CoachJimJacobsen Před 3 lety +1

They have a high fun per dollar ratio, that's for sure. I ride on snowmobile trails with permission and groomed & ungroomed trails. I run about 8 psi in summer and 10 psi in winter. I don't do a lot of road riding in the winter, that's why I have an '83 Schwinn on a trainer. :)
I'd like to see the 9 speed on video. I didn't know that a 9 speed freewheel even existed! And a 42 tooth low sounds great. I'm posting a video later today for the cheap hydraulic brakes I put on for a laugh, but which work pretty well. If you need to kill some time, my channel is Jim's Obsessive Cycling Disorder.
      Best wishes.

Funny Jim - I've seen your FAT vids already & commented probably last Fall. I thought your name was familiar !
I'm jealous of your Snow is that Ok ?
Yes the 9 speed rocks at 14-42 !
I robbed it off of a Walmart sourced 'Hyper 29 Explorer' 2020 model MTB.
      U
It comes stock with a 1x9 drivetrain & its screw on freewheel.
I just had my Bike Mechanic son swap the:
      - Shimano 9 speed Rapid Fire Trigger shifter
      - Falcon Saker branded long cage Deraileur
      - Falcon 9 spd freewheel
+ New KMC 9 spd chain
Over to the Malus and it is now a WAY better climber as you now have a series of low speed gear options for tight technical climbs - important due to 40# !
We live in hilly East Texas but if I were a Flatlander this mod would be less necessary.
I probably would have kept it 13-34 Sunrace / Shimano 8 speed.
The 9 does shift smoother - less clunky somehow.
      Better engineered I suppose.
But yeah you're right you CANNOT locate a 9 speed Freewheel anywhere as a component.
It matters because it allows use of the Mongoose stock wheels / avoids a costly (rear) wheel swap to fit a 9 speed Cassette !
I am contacting Hyper Bicycles to see if they'll supply these to us as customers - as a 'wear item' you eventually need a new cassette / freewheel, right ?!
      We'll see how that goes...
      (ME: Not holding breath)

    • @hellosunshine1090

Crank arms are simple Vuelta MTB crankset for square taper Bottom bracket.
Ring is Oval 32t Blue Anodized 1x Chainring. Its got the 'no chain drop" tooth profile.
Name escapes me. Type that into Amazon you'll find em.
Reasons for this mod are the OE 36T is too big to climb well.
You need 30 / 32 to be in range.
The OE part is cheap & riveted to arms. It also has that plastic chain guard.
So the smaller 32 (or 28 or 30) tooth ring aids climbing & the 1x specific no drop holds chain mines never come off & no chain guard needed.
