Remote work isn't very new. We were all jealous of these attractive photographs of freelancers at work. Because people work from home, they don't have to go anywhere. This idea has seen explosive growth in popularity since the year 2020.
Digital nomads use technology to work from anywhere in the world without being limited by traditional office spaces. These professionals usually have jobs that don't require being in one place, like programming, designing, freelancing, consulting, or working for companies with remote work policies.
As digital nomads, they have the unique opportunity to work and travel simultaneously, experiencing new cultures and places while keeping a steady income.
Digital nomads are becoming more popular, so many countries, including Spain, have created special visas to attract them.
Spain's Digital Nomad Visa was introduced in January 2023 as part of the country's new Startup Act, a set of measures to encourage people to start businesses and invest money in other countries. Non-EU/EEA remote workers and freelancers can now live and work in Spain for up to 12 months, which can be extended for up to five years.
Applicants must show that they make at least €2,160 per month to apply. If traveling with a partner or children, you will need a higher income bracket.
Remote workers must also show that they have a stable contract, that their company has permitted them to work in Spain, and that their company has been in business for at least one year. Unlike many other Digital Nomad Visas, up to 20% of a freelancer's earnings can come from Spanish clients.
Those chosen can also apply for a Spanish residency permit, which will let them travel anywhere in the European Union. Most visa holders will become tax residents and be able to pay a special reduced tax rate of 24% on incomes up to €600,000 per year. There are double taxation agreements between Spain and 90 other countries.
In today’s video Marina will talk about everything you need to know about digital nomad visa in Spain.

love this!! thank you!
Thank you!
Hi subscribed to your CZcams cannot wait to explore it!
Thank you!
AMAZING! Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Hello BoFo and Marina!! a lot info here I was wondering about the UGE asking for the tourist visa, Americans don't need a visa to get to the Schengen zone, is good to know that the stamp works!! Thank you!
Yes and best to get stamped in Spain rather than other EU/Schengen countries. Less work!
Yasssss!!! Love all of you guys!!!
Thank you!!!
Great video again, Marina really knows what she is talking about.
Thank you! She is the best 🙌🏼
Appreciate you guys for making this video and Marina for explaining the topic so well, really informative ❤
Thank you! Her experience is 🏆
Thank you for the info, great video! I've been reading online that this digital nomad visa does not work with the USA W2 employment type because there is no way to get a social security ticket this way. Is there any way around this that you know of? I asked my employer to switch me to a contractor but they denied my request. If I need to maintain my full time employment type with the USA-based company, is there any way for me to attain the social security certificate and get Spain's digital nomad visa? Thank you.
Ah! Our friends at BureaucracyES dealt with a couple of situations like that! Since our collaboration, they’ve had a huge number of approvals and If you use our custom link, you get to see if you qualify for the visa and get to book a free 20-minute consulation with them. Here’s the link: bureaucracy.es/everythingisboffo
Do you know if there is an accommodation requirement? E.g. - having to have proof of a flat lease signed before entering Spain. I am wondering if it is possible to stay short term in different cities. Thanks!
Hi! Please consult with Marina at Bureaucracy.es/everythingisboffo, she’s the expert in all things digital nomad!
When we apply for the Schengen visa to be in Spain to apply, do we need to declare In the tourist visa application that we intend to apply for digital nomad visa ? I know they will see the record of application for TV the moment they process your DNV.
This would be a great question to ask our friends at BureaucracyES! Since our collaboration, they’ve had a huge number of approvals and If you use our custom link, you get to see if you qualify for the visa and get to book a free 20-minute consulation with them. Best of luck! 🙏🏼
We entered EU via Portugal and just used the declaración de Entrada form. At the Madrid Airport Terminal 2 there is a police station that will fill out the form and stamp and sign it for you. We came via the NLV and provided it to the oficina de extranjero when we applied for our TIE. Have you considered doing a video on the New Ley de Memoria Democrática? Passed in October 2022, it allows people with parents or grandparents from Spain to apply for Spanish citizenship. Many people can trace a grandparent to Spain and now can get their citizenship. There are documents and various criteria in which you can apply. It would be helpful to hear if Bureaucracy ES assists with application.
Hi Dina! Thanks for sharing your experience! We’re meeting with Marina at Bureaucracy soon and citizenship will come up because we’re almost at the 2 year mark. ☺️ we’ll talk to her about the new law. Great to hear from you!
Hey! I’m also curious about reaching the 2 year mark. Did you stay in Spain the entire 2 years? Are you allowed to leave the country even for a few weeks/months? :)
@@uzzielperez4316 we went away for 6 weeks in 2022 and 6 weeks again in 2023, so nothing too long. we’ll be interviewing our immigration lawyer soon and she can answer exactly how long you can be out of Spain and still qualify for citizenship via residency.
Hi Guys thanks for sharing this great info video i wish you all the best 😊
Thank you for watching!
Love this channel! I keep reading that homeschooling in Spain is currently in a legal grey area. Do you know anything about this?
Homeschooling is definitely a touchy subject here. If we say that the government wants kids in school, someone will pipe up and say that’s not true… so I don’t know. We don’t have skin in that game. ☺️
Does the visa apply for marketing freelancers as well or only a specific industry like IT ?
From what I understand it’s not exclusive to IT. You will just have to meet the financial and other requirements that your consulate asks for.
Any job sites that you all recommend to find remote work for the digital nomad ?
Hi! Unfortunately I don’t have any websites. Sorry!
Do you recommend any sites to meet friends in Spain, or is it simply networking organically?
There’s apps like Meetup or join Facebook Groups, join classes that are held on a weekly basis instead of just a one-off. Like cooking or exercise classes, or a ceramics class/book club.
Nice video mga kabayan. Overall seems this is a tough route compared to other european nomad visa offers. But the best thing before availing any is get to know the country by living there temporarily first.
Thank you for watching! Even if it’s not the best option in Europe, former colonies of Spain will have an added bonus of the fast track to citizenship. Just live in Spain for 2 years and then apply for citizenship na.
How much TAXES Have to pay / monthly as Digital Nomad in spain ???
That's very disappointing to hear about the situation for employed remote workers from the US. I can't find any other information about this limitation online though.
Yeah it really is a bummer and the rules constantly change so we’ll try to keep you guys updated.
@19:12 in case it helps anyone else looking for the reference of the comment.
You can't be a remote US worker in Spain like the original announcement
ls it possible for Canadians?
@@krispy3736 yes you can apply if you meet the criteria!
Can you apply as an employee in Spain or does it need to be at the consulate? I’m from Canada
Hello! Please consult with Marina over at Bureaucracy.es/everythingisboffo , she’s the immigration expert! Thanks for watching!
Once granted, how much time does one have before the Visa expires? My plan is to travel south east Asia and Europe first on my way to Spain😅
Hi! Maybe you should apply for DNV while in Spain, it takes 20 days to get approved. Just remember you have to enter the EU by Spain by airplane.
Hi, I'm excited to learn everything I need so I can live in Spain (Debbie Stewart)
Thanks for watching!
I wished you discussed the minimum amount of income required to get the DNV.
Can it still be $2,500 or is it now $2,700. Can it also be anywhere below $2,500 or can some months be lower than that amount?
Hi! Thanks for watching. That’s exactly why we left that part out, each year the minimum wage changes so if we specified the amount then it might mislead others. A google search can help figure out the minimum wage for the current year.
It’s advisable that you meet the requirements every month. Thanks again!
@@EverythingIsBoffo Thanks for the quick response. Have you done a video why you chose Valencia over Madrid, Barcelona or Malaga? I hope you can also do a breakdown of best areas to live in in Valencia in terms of convenience or proximity to a university or supermarket.
Is there anyway someone can help us to proceed with this visa ?
We have a custom link that our friends at Bureaucracy.ES has provided for our viewers to get you a free consultation and a discount from their services: www.bureaucracy.es/everythingisboffo
Best of luck!
Sorry guys but in the main requirements you didn't mention the main one and most important. Isn't this visa applicable only for Non EU citizens? I have a question? What happens I am german but I have spent the past 10 years in UK and I got the UK citizenship (so double passport) and I have the social security contribution currently in UK, can I apply as a non-eu citizen?
You are still an EU citizen, you don’t need a visa to live and work in Spain. so unless you give up your German citizenship, you can’t apply for the DNV.
@@EverythingIsBoffo I understand, that makes sense, thank you for your answer
I was looking for a comprehensive review of the Digital Nomad Visa by Filipinos and literally saw this on my recommendations.
This is a sign and I will be applying with this company using your link. Gracias!
They are amazing! Highly recommend them for their transparency and professionalism!
Welcome everybody to Spain! ❤
Thank you!
I'm a dual citizen (Filipino -American), can I apply for Nomad Visa and become Spanish citizen without renouncing my US/Filipino citizenship? And Spain would be my 3rd nationality?
Yes! You can definitely do that! Please see if you qualify for the digital nomad visa by taking the quiz at Bureaucracy.es/everythingisboffo
I live in Baku, Azerbaijan. there is No spanish Embassy so I need to apply in Turkey Spanish D category Visa ,,, is there any Online visa ??
Hi, you will have to follow the instructions of the consulate assigned to your country. And from our knowledge, you will need to be there in person.
Hi am I possible to gain this permit as a British citizen?
Hi! Yes as long as you meet the requirements, you should be able to.
How can I apply for this visa,I have not contract from company, I sell my art work to person
Hi! Please visit the link in the description and fill out the digital nomad quiz to see if you are a good candidate.
Hello, salamat sa inyo and Marina for putting out very useful info on getting a digital nomad visa. Based po ako sa Philippines and remote worker ako. Hindi ko meet ang salary requirements pero pwede ba ako mag apply as tourist and stay there for 2 years tapos mag apply na ako as permanent resident ? Maraming salamat. edit: just subscribed to your channel and requested to join your FB group
Hello! Unfortunately hindi counted ang tourist and student visa sa 2 years when applying for nationality. Only visas with “residencia” and not “estancia” are counted.
Digital Nomad visa , do we need to pay TAXES to Spain government ? if yes, how much
Yes you will pay taxes to the Spanish government, at 24% up to 600,000€. It goes up past that amount.
240000 euro / everymonth pay 20000 euro need to pay ??@@EverythingIsBoffo
If I obtain the Digital Nomad Visa for Spain, does this offer me the ability to travel freely between EU countries??
Within Schengen for sure, not sure about EU. For example, I think some still need a visa to Ireland.
@@EverythingIsBoffo thanks. Also, so once I get the visa for Spain, then I obtain my new passport from within Spain and that is what allows me to go travel and live briefly here and there in other Schengen countries?
@@sammoe1292 the foreigner identification residency card (TIE) plus your passport is what you will need to present between schengen countries.
Hi kabayan I'm your new subscriber I'm glad that I watched your CZcams channel.
Is it possible this procedure here in Bahrain??? I'm currently working here in Bahrain. And I have friend in Spain and he want me to go there. I'm planning to get Schengen Visa instead. But upon watching your vlog right now got my attention. Is it possible here in Bahrain that application kabayan??? I hope you will answer my question. Thank you po
Hello! Yes as long as you are a legal resident of Bahrain and meet the requirements you can apply for DNV there instead of going back to the Philippines. But like Marina said it’s easier to apply for DNV within Spain. If you want, please consult with them using our link Bureaucracy.es/everythingisboffo
Thank you po kabayan for your quick response. God Bless You po🙂
Kabayan I have further question po if you don't mind po. Iyong binabanggit ba ni Ma'am Marina na Social Security Certificate eh iyong SSS naten sa Pinas po? I'm a SSS Member na po sa Pinas and may 1 year na po akong naghuhulog. Yun po ba iyong Certificate na isa sa mga requirements to be submitted to Ma'am Marina if ever??
@@nikkicristyvlogs6706 not sure, you will have to ask her how that works. Sorry!
Ahhh ok po kabayan thanks po🙂
Lots of good info in this video! I wouldn’t have thought about getting the direct flight from home country into Spain.
I’m hoping to immigrate to Spain in 7-10 years, hoping Marina is still in this business then! She knows the whole process. The free consultation looks great!
Thank you! Let’s make it happen ✨
Good content ❤ Hope you could discuss a visa for health professionals like dentists, if there's a PR pathway without having to obtain licensure exam first in Spain (open for alternative jobs).😊
Thanks for watching! Not familiar with it but I think you will need a homoglación for that.
Hi I would like to ask if it is okay to you to make a video on what are requirements and documents you need if you're bringing your pet with you, what vaccines and Is it really fine if you'll put your pet in the trolley or you need a courrier and can a pet ride a plane or no. I dont know if this also implies if you're leaving Philippines but how about when you arrived in Spain? Thank you so much☺️❤️
Hi! Here’s what we did: How To Fly With Your Dog In The Cabin

@@EverythingIsBoffo Thank you☺️
How do you deal with the language there? Any discriminition you experience?
We were determined to learn the language so we enroll in Spanish 101 before we left and are continuing to learn here as well. It got tricky when we went to the hospital because we didn’t know all the terms for surgery, gall bladder, etc.
Everyone has been patient with us, and it helps when they see that we are really trying. Haven’t experienced discrimination directed at us so far.
Can a content creator (CZcamsr) apply for a digital nomad visa in Spain?
You have to show a work contract with a company, so unless you have that with CZcams, no. It’s considered passive income and not a salary.
@@EverythingIsBoffo CZcams doesn't have a work contract. Is there a solution to that?
a Digital Nomad must Earn 600000 Euro / yearly and need to pay 24% ??? as i know at least 2100 Euro/ monthly can Apply for Nomad visa
I said you get taxed 24% up to 600K of your earnings. I didn’t say you need to earn 600K.
So if i make any Amount less then 60000 Euro, i need to pay 24% TAX / Yearly or monthly@@EverythingIsBoffo
What if we are working in Fiverr or Upwork and earning more than $10000 USD. Can we apply in that case too?
Hi! Please fill out the digital nomad quiz at Bureaucracy.es/everythingisboffo to see if that qualifies! Thanks!
