    I've been using a Mediatek Dimensity 1200 phone for over 2 yrs now, and it's been rock solid with great battery life, especially for the price I got it for.
    MTK has come a long way in the last 2-3 years and they're killing it with their flagship (& mid-range) chips as well, just take a look at the Dimensity 8100/8300, 9300, etc.
    PS - my D1200 is still more powerful than the 7200 in the (2a), 2 years later😎

      @rodryguezzz Před měsícem +4

      @@askolds11 That's the reason I'm never getting a MTK phone. I got a Lenovo android MTK tablet many years ago running Android 4.4 and its upgrade path was only 4.2>4.4. Someone made a sketchy custom ROM later, but the whole platform sucks. Meanwhile, my Moto G2 is still alive running Android 8, even though I don't use it anymore as phones with 1GB ram are e-waste nowadays. And my Poco X3 Pro is running a great custom AOSP based rom since MIUI has some weird bugs (and there's China too).

      When they'll finally start releasing source codes, they will definitely start getting market share. Custom ROM support is the single most important parameter when buying a phone in my opinion. It is just stupid to buy a phone knowing that after 2 years, while perfectly usable and fast still, it's gonna look like 10 years old. That's the single biggest reason that perfectly good phones end up as e-waste. I still use a OnePlus 6 with Pixel Experience 13 Plus. More phone than you'll ever need.

While the Nothing 2a technically works on all of the main providers in a vast majority of their service areas, the near-total lack of 5G and CDMA support for rural areas makes it a hard sell for the outdoorsy or on-the-move type of user-also apparently you need to have your device registered with Verizon for it to even be able to access service, so that's a fun one.

    I've had the Nothing Phone 1 for quite some time now, first Android phone of my own, definitely prefer it over my past Apple phones due to the extensibility in terms of customization and freedom of use.
    As for the camera, I take a lot of photos and I've found that switching to using the GCam application, which is a fork of the camera app found on the Google Pixel phones, I end up getting markedly better images with the right settings and adjustments tuned in.
    A few odd things about the phone though: Audio recording seems to have some noise cancelling applied to it which I find annoying in my videos. I'm not sure if this is a changable feature in android or if it is just how the device is. The other is the lack of ability to customize the Glyph lights, for this I worked around it by programming my own application that lets me take control of the Glyph LEDs.

It only supports one band of 5G of T-Mobile's network (the mid band) and that's it. The manufacturer says "don't use this on Verizon" at all. Since it's not really compatible with much, I don't think they wanted to deal with the headache of returns for people who won't read the limitations and having a dev kit makes it painfully obvious not to buy unless you know what you're up against.
