Gynostemma, also called jiaogulan, is a green leafy herb that became famous as a legendary infused "immortality tea" among certain isolated highland villages populations of southern China. This is a location where the plant naturally grows wild and where people were reported to live healthy long lives from daily consumption.
Because of its remote use, it has only just recently been introduced into the Chinese herbal system and is now a popular hot tea to drink throughout Asia for its energizing and anti-fatigue effects, often used as a replacement for coffee and caffeinated teas. Containing saponin gypenosides and other constituents, the leaves are often compared to that of ginseng.

    LOVE Gynostemma.
I found this herb through dragon herbs back 3 years ago when my son was born, and didnt like it much at first but learned to love this stuff.
I drink 1-2 cups a day, and when i do, its during mid-day when im starting to feel a bit bored or feeling like i need a nap or something, and this drink picks me right up and keeps me focused and ready for whatever the day has ahead.
Some times you have to drink a second cup in the evening or at night, but this stuff is really great.
i prefer to use the dragon herbs brand, its called spring dragon and its sprayed with like 5 other tonic herbs in extract form, so it enhances the effects and brings others not normally found in Gynostemma alone.
REally unique product, and cannot recommend it enough, i just generally feel healthier when i consume this stuff daily, that's enough to keep me sold on the tea.
ill be drinking this for the rest of my life for sure, especially since they say as you age, and get older, like in your 50-60-70 and beyond, you will want to keep Gingseng and (gynostemma) in mind because of the saponins and ginseng is just something you want to take later in life, i hear its very beneficial.
So this is like cheap version of ginseng, so i figure consume it daily for the benefits.
Thanks for the video, i am always recommending people to your channel for help learning about certain herbs, and you cover pretty much everything worthwhile out here on earth!
    Cya!

Brian i'd like to know how long you usually let the gynostemma steep for .
The reason i ask is when it comes to teas that are for healing and medicinal purposes i always let them steep long to get the benefit of the plant or herb .
It always tastes bitter to me but usually bitter is a sign of healing alkaloids .
Yet i'm reading where people say the tea tastes good and i noticed you said you didn't really care for the taste .
Can you please try to describe what it tastes like and the reason i ask is because i bought some at my local Asian Grocers but suspect it might be inferior quality ... other people are saying the tea tastes sweet .

    • @baersworld.8812
      @baersworld.8812 Před 3 lety +1

@@gardensofthegods I typically let it steep for 20-30 minutes, and then drink - but i also heat up more water and let that same gynostemma leaf steep in the new hot water again, a second time - sometimes i let it steep over-night, it just depends.
But yeah, the longer the better imho, and it does taste sweet - some of it doesn't, i have not tried the non-sweet and the sweet varieties side-by-side so i cannot tell you the difference.
I use Dragon Herbs brand of gynostemma, it's called Spring Dragon longevity tea - look them up on google.
They are amazing, and they also spray their gynostemma leaf with other herbal extracts (spray as in coat it), eleuthero, goji, and a few others.
Try it, you won't regret it - their quality is as good as it get's,.

Also, I grow jiaogulan successfully, and I live in zone 6. I have had my vines for 5 years now, and as long as you mulch them up good for the winter, they should survive, at least mine have. The only thing I noticed is that the imported herb must be processed with steam or something, it look different and tastes different. i still haven't learned yet what they do to it after harvest. i just dry mine like any other herb with low heat, and even though it doesn't taste the same, i am sure it still has all the saponins. It is a big savings to grow your own.
