    Back into the emu scene after quite a while I just picked up LaunchBox. Looking for a front end I narrowed it down to this or Hyperspin mainly because I read what a chore HS can be to set up. Very impressed with LB, I upgraded to premium and BigBox and couldn't be happier. With this and not to mention Cemu, I am blown away by the strides in emulation now. Good stuff!

    Final Burn Alpha for pc requires you to map inputs for each game. Does Retroarch running Final Burn Alpha mean you don't have to do that any more?
    *updated* confirmed retroarch passes its controls config on to final burn alpha so you dont have to individually setup per game. this is a huge advantage to using retroarch. i hear shaders is another benefit to what seemed like a redundant layer of software. really liking the combo launchbox and retroarch.

    Hello ETA PRIME, When I'm watching any video about Launchbox concerning retroarch along with installing emulators my retroarch looks totally different then yours. Is it simply because you have BigBox and I don't? So it makes it kind of difficult for me to follow your videos when I don't have the same things in my retroarch as you do.

    What settings do I need to get the graphics quality on ETA Prime's video? I have a 1440p monitor and my games are really pixelated. I can make it look better with the different shaders but they all the good looking ones have scan lines. I just want it to look smooth with no scan lines like in Prime's video examples.

    In case the Text File download ever dies:
    Emulator Name= NeoGeo
    Associated Platform = NeoGeo
    -L "cores\fbalpha2012_neogeo_libretro.dll"
    BTW, this works for all cores you wanna use in Retroarch. Follow these same steps to add in other platforms, rename your emulator appropriately and your ensure the Default Command Line Parameters matches the core you're using.

    Hey :) Just wanted to ask a question, I am using the newest version of RetroArch 1.9.1 and it seems to be having issues scanning the directories for the roms on
    SNK Neo Geo AES
    SNK Neo Geo Pocket
    SNK Neo Geo Pocket Colour (These are the actual Directory names)
    but it did scan and correctly import SNK Neo Geo CD
    There are roms in those directories I checked lol I thought it might have been me, but its scans and I can see it scanning but it either doesn't complete the scan and comes up empty or if finishes the scan and its still empty
    Any ideas as to why this is happening please?

    At around 3:15mins, you dragged the unzipped RetroArch folder to Documents\Emulators. Can I just drag it to LaunchBox\Emulators? That way I could make a portable USB 3.0 thumbdrive version and RetroArch would go with it when I drag the LaunchBox folder to the thumbdrve. In a later video that you made for LaunchBox, the one where you make a portable USB 3.0 thumbdrive you dragged the LB folder to the drive and you said RetroArch was there, but didn't say how RetroArch came with it and it didn't show up in your file browser. Thanks great videos.

    Fba is way better than Retroarch for NeoGeo at least for me, and by the way you didn't talk about the huge size all artwork takes on hdd, but i found a simple solution, you can resize all the image with VSO Image Resizer 4, befor resizing i have 4gb+ of flayers, titles, gamplay screenshots on almost all emulators... the final size is 1.45gb and it's a big win, but it takes so much times cause you need to resize folder by folder :)

    Same here as for many others: It just doesn't work. Games just don't start in launchbox. I've exactly followed the instruction and I also tried to put the bios file (you mean neogeo.zip, right?) in the Retroarch\Bios folder and into the rom folder, but it doesn't work. But I also can't start them from RetrArch. How do you do that? First load the core in RetroArch and then go to "Load Content" and just select one rom (zip) file, right? Nothing happens when I do that. The rom files work fine on the Neo-Geo Emulator on my PSP.

    • @arlokkkk
      @arlokkkk Před 5 lety

      I found a solution for this issue of retroarch not launching neogeo games. Go and remove your neogeo plataform from launchbox to start from scratch. Now, place your neogeo roms in a folder that is not inside the launch box directory. I put mine on c:users/username/downloads/neogeo. Leave the neogeo bios inside too, don;t unzip it. The bios has to have around 1.6mb. Now, import your roms in launch box but when it asks you if you want to move your games into another directory, Don't move it! Keep your roms in the same place (any where as long is not inside the launch box folder). This should do the trick. Go ahead and try launching the neogeo games from launch now. Note: I'm using the core fbalpha2012_neogeo_libretro and -L "cores\fbalpha2012_neogeo_libretro.dll" parameter

    • @Thunderbird1337
      @Thunderbird1337 Před 4 lety

      @@arlokkkk In the meantime I found another solution. I have my Neo-Geo games normally in the Retroarch folder and it works fine. Also I did not add an additional emulator as shown in the video but just used Retroarch normally as the emulator. My mistake was: I used -L "fbalpha2012_neogeo_libretro.dll" (without cores in front) which works perfectly for other emulators. For some reason here the path including the cores folder name is needed. I simply added -L "cores\fbalpha2012_neogeo_libretro.dll" as extra command line parameter for this emulator and that does the trick.

    I am at my wits end with setting up Neo Geo emulators for PC. I've tried every tutorial out there known to man -- and I follow you and watch your videos regularly, so I thought this would do the trick. I literally followed every step you said, with one exception. I wasn't able to find the .7z version of retroarch, so I just downloaded the executable installer. Anyway, this was my 20th attempt to get Neo Geo working, and despite your tutorial being very patient and well thought out, for the life of me I cannot figure out why this will not work for me.
    edit: i found the 7z version, so I uninstalled the executable installer and did everything you instructed from scratch. when I click the cover boxes for the neogeo roms that I have imported, it does nothing. when i manually go into retroarch and try to run them, i get "cannot load content" error.

      I'm in the same boat. I have All my classic systems running from their Ems, but when I try Neo Geo running from RetroArch, I can't get it to load from LB. Also, i can't get them to load from RetroArch directly. I was able to get the Neo Geo roms to launch directly from Kawaks, but I can't get them to launch from LB, using the Kawaks emulator. It's frustrating. I sat here for hours trying different things.

      @justinarnellwest Před 4 lety

      Okay, O I read a comment below that says not every game works from LB. I just went through and started clicking different games from LB and found that some of them are working. I don't know if there I a rhyme or reason as to which games work or not.

      @@justinarnellwest i did some even deeper digging on the topic. apparently, there's a hierarchy of roms with neo geo, where there are primary roms (main roms) and then there are children of the main rom that are not compatible with every emulator. there's a program called MAMEUI, and if you type in the name of the rom you want to play, it tells you the exact version of the rom you need to download in order to get it working. i loaded metal slug 5 for the first time, and it felt like i cracked the code to a safe that had been closed for so long, lol.

    • @trueneutral3092
      @trueneutral3092 Před 4 lety

      @@justinarnellwest basically, once you have the associated model/id# for the rom you're looking for, you can just google "rom title + [model#]" and that should bring you right to the correct version of the rom you've been looking for all along that will finally load!

      Sadly the tutorial is somewhat simplified, I spent hours on this & could not get any results. Finally I struck gold with more luck than management. What is fundamental but not mentioned is the RomSet (Games) & the Bios (neogeo.zip) need to match. A bit like Mame & it's RomSets.
      What I ended up doing was pulling the roms from my latest Mame set, using the Universal NeoGeo bios & FBNeo. Nothing like this video but finally I struck gold & I can confirm it works with Big Box/Launch Box.

Although, it seemed like almost every week there was something new to retropie, like 2 weeks ago, I learned about there being a retropie manager, I'm just expecting somethin big again to change again lol, an example would be like a new DS emulator that game at full speed at 1080p resolution. I've gotten into retropie really quick, for some it took months, it took me a month, almost 2 now. I'm still learning a little here and there but it's a neat device that's sure to impress guests.
