For those who are having problems with the CPS3 under Retroarch and fbalpha cores, get the Final Burn Alpha ROMs. They are not the same as the MAME or the CPS3 Emulator. Also, there appears to be no difference between plain ROMs and the CHD versions as far as I can tell. They are actually about the same size.
And then which specific core did you use? The regular FBA or FBA NeoGeo or...?
fbalpha_libretro core runs them but I haven't put them through the wringer.
Thank you sir! Just tested all 5 of the CPS-3 games and they work great. Download the latest FBA romset and use the fbalpha_libretro core....... the 5 zip files that work are jojo.zip, redearth.zip, sfiii.zip, sfiii2.zip and sfiii3.zip

Here in the US we would not place a hard K sound when CH is at the end. Take it from an English Teacher, it is not called Retro ARK. If they wanted it to be called Retro ARK, they should have called it that. But in the end who cares if it is called tomato or tamato. Pet peeves aside, I think you have to get over it.

Can you please do an updated tutorial on this? In recent videos i have noticed you prefer using standalone emulators. Could you please give an example for these? I have CPS1 roms that don't show up in Retroarch
3 years late, but I have a tutorial for standalone FB Neo + LaunchBox in my channel. I also prefer it over RetroArch.
ETA, I got an suggestion. If you have games that don't work on CPS1...The best is to place "Skip Games Non-playable" It's best recommended for games that can play or not..plus, it gathers your games to search for games that work or not. Thanks for the help though :T

Ive got a question not sure if u know but on EmuParadise I've just dl all the 12 or 13 parts to the MAME rom set. Ive noticed they have the CPS 1 n 2 Rom sets also, so is the CPS ones in the MAME set or are they seperate? If your not sure I suppose I'll just get them anyway and have a look. Thanks

quick question. All my artwork keeps saving to my c: and filling up fast. All my roms and emulators are on my other drives. I tried what I thought would work so it would just save that info where my roms currently are and ehhh that doesn't seem to be the case.
Wish we could just edit the Emulator list to include all new cores and then once adding roms just add to the emulator-associated list instead of adding it as a new emulator each time new romset is added. Hope this gets fixed in next version.
I did exactly what you've done, but the games doesn't run on my retroarch 1.5... I tried many times, using your txt file and also copping the core's ne directly from the cores folder to be sure it was correct... I might need to keep using kawaks 😥
Have had no luck with this. I added a bunch of fighting game roms, and then also Super Puzzle Fighter, but for some reason only Puzzle Fighter works. Even with different cores Puzzle Fighter was the only one that worked consistently. The others would just not even load. Same thing trying it through RetroArch itself, only Puzzle Fighter loads. I am using parents roms, have tried with and without the qsound bios, but still nothing. This is incredibly frustrating. I guess I'll just play Puzzle Fighter.

In the video I see Zip files @12:04. I have identical files and yet I don't seem to get the same results.
Also I did notice the " (Quote) missing on the last item in the text file. Is it suppose to work without it?

Same here. CPS1 and 2 a charm. CPS3 doesn't work here. I noticed that the missing quotes are added automatically too. Did you find a solution?

FOR IMAGES ADDED! Just right click the game that is found & don't have art, chose edit (short is "CTRL + E" ), then if there is a database ID in the right upper corner, then you're set, because the game has actually been found. Push the button "Download Images/Media" in the lower right. Then when it's found, push "Download". Press "OK" and see the new picture that has been added. ;D DONE.

The cps1 games worked, well some of it but cps2 and cps3 did not work. How do I fix that?

How do you play X-men vs SF on a 4 face button controller? Considering the Super Moves required to press all 3 punch buttons or all 3 kick buttons. Is there a workaround?
I did as followed, but nothing is worked on cps1, then luanchbox creates additional platforms capcom classics and capcom games
If I go to my CPS1 for example below "Plataform" in my launch box. The cps1 has no info. So when I go to big box and select it. There is no info about the system or picture. Like if I go to let's say N64. It shows my the N64 console pic and history. How do I create a new plataform using cps123 and have all the info pulled in?

Hey, sorry about this but I can't get my CPS3 games to work with either of those cores (fbalpha_libretro.dll/fbalpha2012_libretro.dll). I've grabbed different versions of the ROMS, one actually came with it's own emulator, which worked fine. I've copied the .CHD into the same folder, added it into the archive, done loads of silly things with the hope that it just might work. Is there something stupid I'm just not doing - I've followed your video exactly, is it a specfic rip/dump that Retroarch needs? Actually, I have them as part of my MAME install but loading the CPS3 stuff takes an age, watching your demo looked fantastic. All the best & thanks again :)

Why do I have issues when trying to open up the dll files from cores subfolder? The OK button is greyed out and I get the message "You are attempting to open a file of type 'system file' (dll)". What's this all about? I'm totally out of the game and haven't set up emulators for more than a decade, maybe even closer to two decades...

I have an odd issue where the games work, but the inputs are messed up for CPS-2 & 3 games. When I hit Hard Punch in Street Fighter: 3rd Strike or in Marvel vs. Capcom, it registers as Hard Punch AND Hard Kick. Any idea what causes this?

Managed to get CPS3 to work after quite a struggle. My issue was the romset I had would not work in retroarch with the fbalpha_libretro.dll core. So I had to hunt down different roms that did work. I tried each new rom using retroarch first, then once I found one that worked I loaded it into Launchbox as per the video and now everything is golden. The roms that came in MAME 0.222 did not work for me.
Edit: retroarch build 1.8.9 no longer has the option to download the fbalpha_libretro.dll core, however the fbalpha2012_libretro.dll core does work as described in the video.

Im trying to run street fighter alpha 3 with cps2 the game loads fine and the only problem i have is the start buton is mapped with the test button so if i press start it takes me to the test menu. any ideas? allso how do you access the cps2 controll panel to input all your shit? like in mame when you press tab.

CPS 1-2 work fine but the games wont play in CPS3, I've tried changing the core on the text document to 2012 but no matter what I do I cant get it to load games. I looks like its about to go through and then it sends me back to launchbox. Any thoughts?

The solution is to get the "CPS3 Emulator"... I was unable to get cps3 to work with Retroarch, like you. But the standalone CPS3 Emulator does work, try that one. Only thing, still trying to figure it out, can't seem to get the configuration settings to stick each time I load up a new game.

Remember at the start of the video he mentioned his previous video showed control setup. Any time you get stuck just rewatch the video to make sure you didn't miss something.
where did you find so many cps3 games since they are so few
There are only 6 games but there are multiple versions and regions, old and new rom sets of the same games. Retroarch probably parsed some of those versions as CPS2 games by mistake.
God I hate retroarch I can never get that damn thing to work. Wish they would separate the emulators that's in there non of the tutorials I've seen helps smh!!!! :(

you probably need the bios, parent rom or both to go with the rom you have. Capcom games usually need the qsound bios. parent rom example; if you have super street fighter 2 and the zip is called ssf2tu then that is the turbo (t) variant, and also the us (u) translation. you'll need to get the original (parent) ssf2.zip for that to run. (just place them all in the roms folder don't unzip them or try to zip them together)
I'm super confused. In the video he had us add cores..where do we add the bios ????
And yes I know...apparently it's somehow taboo to point to bios files but unless I missed it the video didn't mention placing a bios file anywhere FIRST. I followed this step by step but games down load when clicked on.
it's the same behavior as mame. they go in the same folder as Roms.
