- In this video I give my opinion on Jameson Black Barrel Proof, a cask strength limited edition release.
On the Nose: Its a toffee bomb with a sherry and potstill influence, dried fruits and potstill spices.
On the palate: Its toffee, caramel and fudges, pots till spice and dried fruits in the middle, smooth texture with a little peppery heat with a lovely sweet finish.

I wish I could get this in the states. I love black barrel. The 100 proof would just be amazing
Hello John, greetings from a Tír Eoghan man. Picked up a bottle of McConnell's a few weeks back, a lovely wee whiskey from Belfast, full of character. Would highly recommend it
Happy Christmas John to you and your family thank you for all your reviews and time you take keep it up really enjoy your honesty best wishes health and happiness for 2022
Happy new Year Edward
Great review. Ordered this bottle over the weekend, can't wait for it to arrive. Cheers!
As always love great video!! Love hearing your insights
Really enjoy watching your videos and listening to your perspectives on various whisk(e)ys. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, hopefully I can find the time to post more regular reviews
Absolutely love this. It’s amazing to me that there’s STILL supply of this in the likes of CelticWhiskeyShop and James Fox, considering how popular the regular black barrel is.
Would love to see a review of some of the Lambay range, very few brands aside from them producing Cognac-finished Irish whiskies at the moment.
Sounds lovely John, well done!!!
I shouldn't have called this Cask Strength its 100 Proof or 50%abv, there is a cask strength version available only form the distillery that's up around 60%. Its also looks like its Ireland only for now but you can ordered it to be shipped world wide.
Wow! I never knew this bottle was a thing, looks great too! I hope it’s still available in a week or two when I’m back in Cork 🤞 great review, I really enjoyed watching this 🙂
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully you will find a bottle!
I haven't seen the proof version. Sláinte💚
Excellent review as always. I thoroughly enjoy the standard Black Barrel so I’ll have to give this one a go. Go raibh maith agat!
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow I'd love to try the cask strength, nice find my friend. Enjoyed the video. Cheers!
Thanks for watching!
Good review John, Sláinte.
Nice one, John. I find this needs a couple of drops of water in order to get to all of the aromas and tastes. Would have loved to hear your comparison.
Excellent John love the Black barrell this is a new one to try hint hint 🎅🎅
Write a letter to Santa quick!
😆😆😆
Hey, I think I have very similar taste to yourself!
You should try Lambay small batch… not bad for €40 👍👍👍
Great review. Love Black Barrel but it seems the Proof hasn’t made it to California yet. I’ll keep an eye out for it. Meanwhile, thanks for the review!
Very welcome, hopefully you guys will get it over there.
I wish we would get this in the states! We can no longer find Redbreast Cask Strength near me, we are cask strength Irish whiskey deprived over here! If you could stop by the Middleton distillery and put in a good word for us, it be greatly appreciated it. Great review! 😜 Cheers!
Will do!!
good review, welcome back!! is this a one time only limited edition??
I'm not sure I think its only out for Christmas, although I believe there was always a cask strength Black Barrel available only at the distillery
nice review! Black barrel leans a bit too sweet for me but it's a great whiskey. Hope Jameson keep with the Cask strength releases. Surprised to hear you say cask strength can ruin a whiskey. I've always found it to be the most pure version of it. Cool to hear another side.
When a whiskey is not very good a cask strength version can be worse lol
@@thewhiskeyshed.4105 yeah of course! Misunderstood your comment in the video then I guess!
Great video. Really like the original black barrel myself, where did you buy this one?
I bought it in O'Briens Wines
Great tasting notes. Wondering what’s ur preference Black barrel or Black Bush
For me it's Black Barrel
Good review. May have to do segment on why Cask Strength "destroys the whiskey," though....
It depends on the whiskey sometimes the higher abv doesn't work and can be very harsh, if its not very good to start with the cask strength can be even more of what you didn't like.
I was gonna say "do they make water in Ireland..? Get yur teaspoons out, laddie!" But then you're right, I wouldn't want a CS version of Gelston's 5-year Sherry finish...Awful stuff...tastes like Hershey's dry cacao from the can and rotten apples covered in sawdust. Maybe thats appealing??
Lovely video! May I ask what is that glass you using there mate? Thanks :P
Its the Tuath Irish Whiskey Glass
@@thewhiskeyshed.4105 Thanks mate! It was nearly impossible to find it in the EU..only from stores in Ireland with like 40 euro shipping costs! But then I found an Irish store in France and was able to order from there! 10 euro per glass for a total of 7 euro shipping :D
Never heard of this one John, after your vid, I’ll have to check it out, more of a tullamore dew guy myself but this is def worth a bottle to me.
All the best to you & yours.
Treat yourself to a bottle for Christmas
I may, that & another yellow spot 🤫… there do be a need of warming up after being outside all day
Can't decide between this and powers johns lane similar price range what would your preference be??
Now that is a tough one, maybe the Powers John's lane as its Single PotStill and has a bit more character.
Hi John, which whiskey is nicer jameson black barrel proof or redbreast 15 . Thanks
The Redbreast 15 is more interesting, but almost twice the price here in Ireland!
What’s your top 5 whiskeys?
Redbreast 21, Redbreast 12, Powers Johns Lane, Green Spot, Slane. that is not set in stone.
Keep an eye on tesco the original version went down to €25 last November. Bargain....
Its 30 there now!
@@thewhiskeyshed.4105 It'll be €45 by late December. Tesco are mad 🤣 a bottle of that and roe and Co for €50 was fun
