PLEIN AIR PAINTING with oils - Rinsey Cove CORNWALL

- It was a June evening and I thought it would be fun to do some oil painting en plein air at Rinsey Cove in Cornwall. It's not too far from home and was a calm evening. There was a large surf that was attracting some hardy surfers into the water.
I was using my Jullian French easel and a small 10" x 8" plywood panel that I had gessoed ready for the oils.
This was a very challenging plein air painting as the light was so flat with no real contrast. I painted quite thickly in an alla prima technique to build up some texture.
My palette for this one included:
Titanium white
Lemon Yellow
Cadmium Yellow
Cadmium Red
Magenta
Cobalt Blue
Ultramarine Blue
Indian Red
Naples Yellow
Violet
Ivory Black

Hi Andrew in redruth I am thinking to go there on vacation after the Corona and maybe try some plain air painting never painted outdors before and I am 3 years from my pension and finally give it a go

Looks great!. Add some more green blue for the larger wave before the break to white water. Good saturation! Here in Virginia Beach we do not have natural rocky coastline. Although we can paint man made stone jetties .😀

I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and a couple days ago when I was in a bit of a stressed out state with news of the world tipping into madness with Covid, Ukraine, US politics and climate change I turned to one of your videos for a sense of calm from the ocean sounds, the return to some sanity from the landscape, and even your voice emanating a relaxed calmness. Thanks for that. And by the way nice painting.
Thank you very much. Really pleased my videos help you to de-stress. I find noise pollution is a big problem. I hear lots of low frequencies and find it hard to find a quiet space these days

Had to chuckle over the oops with the red paint ....have you discovered Baby wipes...I find them indispensable for cleaning up....my palette...me...and anything else 😂 Cheap too....at least here in NZ.
