Titanic is a 1997 American epic romance and disaster film directed, written, co-produced and co-edited by James Cameron. A fictionalized account of the sinking of the RMS Titanic, it stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as members of different social classes who fall in love aboard the ship during its ill-fated maiden voyage. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I love how they actually show Jack studying the body language of the upper class people. It's so realistic, and it's something James Cameron nailed in this film.
He's the best for reason
I love how Jack stands there awkwardly and doesn’t know what to do with his hands, he’s just so adorable 🥰
I do that all the time no matter where I am
He should have used his hands to give Cal and his pals the fist bumb when greeting them👍👍👍👍👍👍
Funny part was imitating the older man haha love the nod of respect from the gentlman
@@pop-culturecinephile8144socially awkward lol 😂 I feel ya
@@PhillDrakeEntertainmentmore of a nod hello, but yes
This scene is so great because Jack does not say a word, but you can see his social intelligence at work here, his ability to understand what others want to see, his ability to read the room, putting one arm behind his back and fixing his posture and adopt the decorum that he himself isnt use to. He is a total fish out of water, and no doubt he genuinely wanted to impress. Leo's acting was absolutely on key

1.07 Guy with white beard truly is a gentleman. ..... he says hello to everybody😊
Lotte Larsen when u wrote white beard i tought u write white board 🌫

That looks like Isidor Strauss if I'm not mistaken
He is actually a Mexican extra, I know it because I remember watching him doing commercials on local TV back in the late 90's
@@TheEpicProjects300K it does a bit. ..... but it's not him😊
It’s great that the entire scene is shot from Jack’s POV. It really disproves the common notion that the whole film is from Rose’s POV just because she’s the narrator. The reason we see his POV and the POVs of other people when Rose is absent is that her narration transports us back in time and provides the audience with the privilege of seeing every character’s perspective.

The way he looks at her at 1:34 and does a double take is perfect ❤️

"Dawson? That's amazing you could almost pass for a Gentleman!"
".....Almost!" Damn that's harsh! Hahahaha
Sounds like a backhanded compliment when I hear one, it certainly was.
well, we all know cal never had anything nice to say 🙄🙄
What does 'you could pass for a gentleman mean?'
Makes me ask "What's he missing to completely pass for a gentlemen. Money?
Riley Molloy ohhh okay cal is very rude! Lol😂
Their chemistry is seriously off the charts.
Well said!
Leo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Billy Zane stole the whole movie. Their acting was amazing.
Well, they are the Main characters and main villain
It was their job to do it
My only problem was that when I was 17, I saw Kate looked nothing like that age and looked way older then that. But maybe story-wise, Rose was made to look older than 17, not to draw attention
@@pop-culturecinephile8144 17 year olds prob looked older back in those days

I laughed out loud when I heard the comment at 2:19. Jack WAS a gentleman, far more than the rude, boorish Cal ever was or could be.
were you the captain of the ship, captain obvious?
Jack was a gentleman inside, poor outside, while Cal was a gentleman outside, poor inside.
Dude, both of them are fictional
Traditionally, gentleman simply meant very wealthy fellow. Not someone who was kind etc., those are just traits that came later.
@@carltrotter7622 For me, Gentleman will always mean a genuinely kind man who treats women as they should be treated - kindly & respectfully.
The calmness of the first half of this film is what made the second half heartbreaking because we got to see all the major parts of the ship and later we see them destroyed. Like this scene. The grandstaircase was shown through foreshadowing
The Poseidon Adventure 1972 is much better
@Ks Beacuse you like Titanic thats why but thats not fair
@@free-peace5555 TPA is a fictional story. Titanic disaster actually happened (except the whole Rose and Jack story). It doesn't have the same impact. You should have mentioned A Night To Remember instead.
"I saw that on Nickelodeon once, I always wanted to do it"
I'm crying XD
Stupidgeorgie “In a nickel Odeon” which is a cinema you pay one nickel to watch the film
Not the Cartoon Network . It was a Cinema in which they played projected movies.
Lol
I read this just as he said it😭
Nickelodeon will always be better than Cartoon Network
I feel like with Jack, Rose really was able to be her 17 years old self. Here she arrives all smiling and pining when she sees him waiting, and then she keeps on laughing at his mock imitations of 1st class passengers, like two bff. Love that.
The Grand Staircase is a beautiful set. It was viewed as the crown jewel of Titanic.
Indeed, as showcased here. In fact that's pretty much what they are doing in this whole scene, as technically there is no reason why all these passengers in light dresses would be going down from the top of it, as the only place it leads to is the cold outside.
His eyes are just pure perfection
I love how Cal comes down the stairs and happens to glance at Jack but walks on pretending he didn't see Jack. Then Rose comes down and Jack escorts her down the stairs. Then Rose draws Cal's attention saying "darling..." And Cal pretends to see Jack for the first time. Love the scene. Shows how ungentlemanly Cal is!!!!
Cal doesn’t pretend not seeing Jack. The first time he sees him he doesn’t realize it’s him because of how differently he is dressed and how his hair is combed
@@Rocket-qg5jw It’s obviously done on purpose you can see in the way he makes eye contact with Jack and frowns continuing to walk past not even acknowledging him.
@@kellogscornflakes2430 I think that’s how you want to see it. Yeah Cal is a bad guy but this isn’t one of those times he does something bad
@@Rocket-qg5jw I still see it as the directors way of subconsciously making Cal be seen as a more unlikeable character to us as an audience, why else would be the point of that awkward interaction. I mean sure, it could just be to say that Jack was blending in well with the rich folk but even when Cal makes mention of that when he does speak to him, he doesn’t look like he’s being serious. Cal and Roses mother still see him as non wealthy filth and this is evident in the way they attempt to humiliate him at dinner later in the scene which backfires on them.
@@kellogscornflakes2430 I respect your opinion but I think him not recognizing Jack wasn’t intentional. Also, Cal doesn’t humiliate Jack at the dinner table, only Rose’s mother does that. Cal only points to the fact that Jack comes from 3rd class but that’s not humiliating as Jack makes it clear that he is from the 3rd class and he isn’t ashamed of it. (Mentioning how he used to sleep under a bridge, “hardly any rats” etc.)
"I saw that on Nickelodeon once and I always wanted to do it." Gets me very time 🤣

I saw this movie in theatres when I was 6 and it’s crazy to think how much I grasped and appreciated it at such a young age. Now over 20 years later I think I have a new found obsession for it.
i know its a brilliant film, no other film has ever done this but how on earth leo and kate not won an oscar for this ?
@@Gencturk92 Ikr they were robbed off an Oscar
@@lennygriffin2761 well leo didn't even get nominated so yeah, neither did the screenplay

Wouldn't you have been too young to watch this
Jack studying the upper class people is so realistic and so “Jack” if that makes sense! That double take at 1:34 was just chefs kiss! Just the little accents and details that make this movie so memorable
All in all, Jack was a very well mannered man (more than Cal anyway), despite his upbringing.
Most visionaries are
Not to mention more mature
0:02 oh♡ just look at that beautiful sky😘😘😘
yeah lol
no
I loved that part
It was based on the art of Ken Marshall
The Grand Staircase was just the most breathtakingly beautiful feature of the Olympic-class liners, with the English oak paneling and the wrought iron banisters in the elaborate Louis XIV style. The music "On the Beautiful Blue Danube" just matches perfectly with the grandeur of the staircase.

did anyone else hear at 1:57, I thought Jack said "I saw that in Nickolodean once and ive always wanted to do it" or is it just me
thats what he said
In a nickelodeon*. Nickelodeon is an old word for cinema, so named because it would usually cost around 5 cents (a nickle) to get in and see a film. So what he said was "I saw [the hand kissing] in a movie once and..."
ohhhhh so he actually did say nickolodean! lol I thought he was talking about the cartoon show lol
Omg hahaha I thought that too 😂
Cupid Entertainment Yep he did say it when he kisssed Rose hand
wow handsome....
I can't believe how pretty they both are 😭😭😭 so beautiful
Jack may have not had a lot of money but he had a beautiful heart and soul. I can see why Rose loves him
How do you know that? What we see is Rose's perception of the events, not exactly how they happened. For all we know Jack could have been using her in order to get her money (she didn't tell him she was broke) and later to steal the diamond. When Jack asks her how she found out he didn't steal the diamond, she just tells his that she somehow knew (meaning that's what she chose to believe). The fact that he is the one hitting on her also suggests he is the one with an interest. If he really was the good man you claim he was it would be Rose making the first move, not him. Also in that time period doing what they did in that car was not considered respectul towards the woman a man loves.
@@AndreiPopescu Chill.
@@AndreiPopescu bruh who hurt you?
@@AndreiPopescu First he didn’t steal the diamond, we see that in the movie.
And he does let Rose choose, he indirectly tells her how he feels about her (scene in the gym) and it’s clear he is into her but he let het come to him. She is the one who met him at the front of the ship. She asked him to draw her. And she is the one who initiated things in the car when she told him "put your hands on me"
So yes Jack was a good person.
@@ameliebzh56 We do not know if what we see is true or not. That's how the unreliable narrators work. In this case the story is told from Rose's perspective so we see her perception of reality not what really happened. Some things she obviously remembers wrong like the backpack Jack had (which wasn't being made yet) or places he told her about that didn't exit back then. Those places and objects are probably something she saw at some point later in life but due to her old age she mixed them up (they ar too many to be simple movie mistakes). We also see her forget her granddaughter meting Brock Lovett just a few minutes ago, so how can we trust that what she says is really true?
She may have been the one asking him to draw her and initiating things in the car but that was because Jack already seduced her. A good man would have refused to sleep with her at that point (especially in that time period). Then there is also the excessive gambling which led me to believe Jack has questionable moral values. The way I see it, it was just the way events played out that benefited Rose. If Jack did not die, I doubt they would have had a happy life together like Rose had with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Kate and Leo role in Titanic is so good and well played that even watching it almost 100 times i still watching it........This is performance by these two legends and very mind ruling movie

I can't believe how young Leo looks here.
love how some of the shots foreshadow a certain scene way later
Thought the same, like 0:24
I think it's loads of them that foreshadow a certain part of the sinking.
I really this scene as well as third-class party scene: between this elegant, quiet and luxurious first-class party and a wildly active drinks party, don't know which most prefer
First class if I'm meeting someone important from work, to keep up appearances and stuff. Third class to have a banging good time, and probably get absolutely shitfaced and drunk as fuck.
There's also Second Class. Seems to be a perfect middle ground to me.
A movie like titanic can never ever be made.
i agree, and neither shawshank redemption and forrest gump
This movie will forever be so special to me, and I’ve never understood why. Its so magnificent on so many levels. Every since I was a kid both the ship and history behind it have fascinated me.
You guys may be looking at Jack, but I'm looking at the incredible staircase. MY GOD, seeing it brought back to life still blows me away.
On rewatching the movie, I have been paying far more attention to the decor.
@@Musicienne-DAB1995 Yeah me too, and I see that there's many things accurately made, but several other parts of the ship are not.
How the hell did they make it so accurate?
@@Firemarioflower I saw somebody else on another video saying that the corridors were actually modelled after the Cunard liners, not the White Star Line ones. I don't know enough about these ships to comment. Which parts are inaccurate?
@@Musicienne-DAB1995 Interesting thought you put out there, I've never heard that before.
For example, during the sinking, and Jack and Rose try to save a young boy who is lost, the E-Deck has some, but those stairs shouldn't be there in the first place, and be well under water but that's another discussion, since D-Deck is super luxurious and E-Class but the hallways look like a common Third Class passage on D-Deck which is impossible.
Also the Master At Arms cabin is the one on Olympic, on Titanic's deckplans you can see that the cabin is not on the exterior side against the wall, but in the middle, so it doesn't have a porthole to look out at sea.
Few directors and scrip writers produce this kind of magnum opus
Having a scene like this in a modern blockbuster movie just feels unfathomable. They really don’t make em like they used to.
I've always found it a little weird that Jack is amazed by the Grand Staircase. He went down to Molly's cabin and the only way to go up and down in 1st Class was via the Forward and Aft Grand Staircases. That wouldn't be the first time he's seen it and plus he's on the Boat Deck, so he must've walked up the staircase to get up there.
When he left stepped out of her room he got lost because of the long hallway - he ended up going the wrong way to the aft grand staircase. He went up to the boat deck and then returned to the forward grand staircase. Did you not see the deleted scenes? It was very funny scene that they should have left in the film. That's why he has that look on his face after the doorman says "good evening"
Me too.
Right! I was just here to check the same thing, specialy now that I just found out that Moly's cabin was on deck E! Even thought he could used the elevators, he definitly should have seen the staircase.

Leo and Kate the best!
Its always been my experience that you can ALWAYS fool them. Just dress well, speak well, hold your head up and act like you belong there. It works everytime.
Every detail is immaculate. The set, the costumes. The only thing that's not right is Kate's makeup. It's very 90s in style. 1910's make up had a very natural style. Not the dramatic red lip color and eye liner Kate sports here. Still, just wonderful.
And apparently, Rose would have been wearing a hat outside and in other public spaces.
Can we talk about Rose’s gown though? Absolutely stunning
Right? Half the time I am just admiring the gowns.

The first few seconds of the Titanic sailing to the setting sun kinda get me. The surface world's tender goodbye to the soon-to-be-bygone ship.
1:06 This extra is used in SOOOOOO many scenes. Don't ask...but as a kid he reminded me of a cat...so i dumped him the "cat man" You can see him panicking trying to board a lifeboat, and see him freak out during the sinking. I love how the Blue Danube is playing! That's the music from 2001: A Space Odyssey! James Cameron is really masterful at stuff like this!
^ That waltz by Johann Strauss was written mere decades prior to the sailing of the Titanic. That is the historical context/origin. Not A Space Odyssey. James Cameron chose it because it would have been appropriate to the historical time period.
As I am greek I can tell that probably nickelodeon means watching something in a movie theater with a low price ticket. Odeon, in greek pronounced like hodthio, means a pace where you are taught music, phonetics and singing. I hope it helped.
Thanks!!
yeah in the UK we have a cinema chain called Odeon. But I obviously can't stop thinking of the channel Nickelodeon on satellite tv when he says it.
MY OVARY EXPLODED WHEN HE KISSED ROSE' HAND! DAMMIT WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DIE JACK!!! WHYYYYY
I still love this movie. I haven't seen anything this good in years. Most of the movies nowadays are poorly written and lack subtance.
0:05 Reflection of a camera with a hand holding it in the glass below what looks like a steadicam very interesting detail...
Theory: Jack actually came from money. His parents were rich but they died when he was 15. When they died he found it as a way to escape the life he had. That’s why he was able to relate to Rose’s need to escape so well. Also, it explains why he says “ I never liked caviar much.” He was forced to eat it as a child.
It was a sarcastic comment.
On another comment there was standing that there was a deleted scene when this scene is explained, it was reference to something Rose said earlier in the movie idk of that is true
