- A school district in Virginia decided to restore Confederate names to schools after they had been changed in response to public outcry. Gloria Carlineo, one of the board members who voted for the change, objected to the decision and said it did not take into account the community's heritage.

I don't for a moment believe that an 8th grader would be naturally inclined to contemplate these matters. An adult, intent on indoctrination, brought the historical name to her attention and made an issue out of it.
that's exactly right...and I am an educator
In my 8th grade yearbook, I have classmates that wrote, “Don’t pick too much cotton this summer.” That was in 2011.
You would be very surprised about youth awareness. And this “we are a nation of laws” defense is utter horseshit, a poor cover story allowing those who are members of the racial (and racist) majority to use their numbers to keep the names of traitors on public buildings. We’ve spent 150 years allowing lost cause revisionists to white-wash the treasonous aspects of the Civil War for nefarious purposes, soft-pedaling slavery and the monstrous reality behind this is that at least some of these very same people would be happy slave holders to this day if they could be.
So let me speak on the little 8th grade black kid. Im a black man. I would have voted to put it back. What those men fought for was wrong. They were immoral people who only cared about staying in power. They cared not for slaves. So i understand your thinking though there is fallacy. Let me explain, if that war did not happen, we would not have learned what we know today. Even those men who died now know they were wrong. They live on in there ancestors and can see this now. Im one of there ancestors although im black. How? Im mixed with white. Im a direct decendant of slave owners. All plantations were not the same. My family came from a poor one. That could only afford a few black people. And the few they had they treated well. They were christians. Taught us Christianity. Those men watch from stars as we were all getting along and the higher beings said, see what you did? Look at them enjoying and having children freely down there. You cannot be an atheist to understand the universe and working of god. And the gods within that one. Tampering with history does not change history. It still happened. What it will do is cause history to repeat. To put it back on corse. How does it do that? War! So when you bother stuff, you get war. As the insides of said ancestors will start it and finish it. You will learn what we already know and be enlightened. And i hope you find god in the end. Fact is, i know you will. Lol. There is no escape.
Calvary 1 835 Regiment of Native Americans that Fought until Brownsville Texas that we Juneteenth exist.
The ended up on a reservation after refusing to surrender two years after the rest of the Confederate.
History Should NOT Be Changed!!
History can't be changed, unless someone has a time machine. I'm not into tearing down statues, or changing names that represent history, in general, but sometimes it MAY be valid. The name of that school, at least, was changed to what it is now, because people were mad that black kids were going to be integrated there. This isn't even about changing the original name, or dishonoring history. I don't know what the original name is. I would like to hear the arguments, from both sides, though.
Yes, we need to keep the evidence before they start saying 'what slavery?' .. find their descendants and see where they are today
I attend a church built in 1850 by Slaves

The Alamo battle , Mexico had ended Slavery in all it Territories at that time Texas was one and is not want to comply.
You're sick

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. And while the confederate states were abolished they were a sovereign state. Many of their leaders however were classmates and former comrades of federal leadership during the time. Prior to the war breaking out both segments of the north american state known as us territories prospered in their own ways. So while the confederated state fought in part due to slavery like any state they fought for self government and choice as does any nation state. Thats why people want the schools names to be retained so we never forget the past. Because like all people past and
present we all are flawed but we all have our contributions to society of a positive kind as well
👏👏
This news channel cherry picked ONE girl who didn't like the names , but the majority of the community wanted to keep the original names for the Confederates, and he didn't show any of the community that support this. Very Biased reporting.
Can’t be. He claimed their channel is unbiased lol
That's not necessarily the case. He was asking for an argument, other than there being a process to changing names. She wasn't listening. She didn't provide one. Someone else should've been in her place.
@@RayfordRaySiegel The little girl was also very ignorant about history. She was given the talking points to use by the local communist organizations.
@@MeadeFatLoss,
How do you know, if someone told her what to say? And she didn't even make any arguments, in the time that they showed her. That's not enough to go on. You'd need to hear more, to know if she's ignorant or not.
It's history. We're not going to change history for anyone.
According to your logic -- Should Nazis have statues built?

Not built, restored.
@@seeharvester Okay, again, according to your logic should Nazis have their statues restored?
We are seeing in real time, on college campuses, why we do not erase history.

These school names should not have been changed to begin with. These were knee-jerk reactions that spent money needlessly on a project that very few people really care about. MOST students don't care what the school is named. Often times, they don't even know WHO the school is named for, so there's that.
Except it hurts the kids that are in minorities. Maybe it doesn’t upset the white kids but what about the black kids? Does anybody care about their feelings stop being intellectually dishonest
@@Milaperadotti How do you think Native Americans feel when they have to hold a fifty-dollar bill with Grant's picture on it.
Hey, you think traitors should be honored, at least you're honest I guess.
Well I know The Irony is many Confederates in fear of arrest moved to Mexico, Traitorous guilty mindset.
Their ancestors say build the wall Today because they been given a fake history
@@Milaperadotti I seriously doubt the black kids even though about it. They should never have changed them
It's up to the local communities to decide what to name schools and what tributes like statues are acceptable. This shouldn't be controversial.
That doesn't make it non-controversial.
That doesn't make it non-controversial.
@@RayfordRaySiegel The town selects their officials and they make a decision. If you don't live in that district, it's not your decision to make. If you think that's controversial, you believe everything is controversial.

You are missing the point, taking away history is like burning books. It’s ok to learn from our mistakes and it’s ok to see them in our faces.
Some parts of the country move forward and other parts want to stay in the past
What a bunch of racial BS. She never answered a question and steps on an eighth grader
She's not getting it. He specifically said that he's asking about the response, other than there being a process. She's not the best person to be representing the side that wants to keep the name.
Why didn’t he ask this foreigner why she was telling Americans what their schools should be named
Should have never been changed!!!!
This is a great time to talk about Traitors to the Constitution should we pull out the one they wrote? Along with that rebel flag that was only used 6 months before their Surrender All the time
She is a mean cruel lady, being mean just because she can get away with it by calling it "following the rule of law." This was naked passive aggression. Shame shame shame on all those who voted to blow off those kids' rights and needs.
Good!
Who did they hire with advanced enough math skills to tally the vote?
Lets honor slave holders but condemn anyone who disagrees with Israel. Anyone see a problem with this?
For one thing it’s also history. True history. It’s just a name. Why change the name? The majority rules 😊😊

@@Thomas-xe3ce Who's crying. I'm just saying that the all white school board appears to think it's more important to remember the traitors and protectors of slavery than atoning for the horrors of slavery. It you want to build monuments honoring our history - make them of the people who did the work - the enslaved.
Just awful!
So little girl, you're not the only student and you can always change schools.
That's a stupid statement. I'm not some leftie, but both arguments should be heard. Also, everyone needs more education on the subject. Was he actually racist? Were the confederate army soldiers racist, or were they only fighting, because they had to, and not necessarily for the cause? This stuff needs to be talked about, to come to a conclusion. Also, the school wasn't even originally named after him. It was done, out of retaliation of integration of black students. If something is wrong against people, it doesn't matter that those people are the minority. They're still a part of it. You're implying that they don't count, because there are more people that aren't black.
This needs to be turned into a federal case.
