When scammers call I do pretend I can not hear them and I keep saying. Hello, hello, hello....they get upset and hang up.

Good for her!!! My 74 year ild neighbor was recently a victim of a romance scam. This creep took her for $22,000. Sad thing is, she said she fell in love with this creep. She is a recent widow.

Every time I get a scam caller now I tell them I'll pray for a real job for them instead of them being a criminal. Once I said, "you need Jesus because you're a criminal". They are always shocked and hang up.
I've been doing that for years. My mom did it before she passed and my uncle does it too. That's not witty banter- that's the gospel. Get right or get left.

My son, when he was ages 5-8 loved talking to these scammers. He was very bubbly. And they’d always hang up on them.
Scammers target Seniors. There needs to be a way to easily block numbers from landlines that is free for seniors.

Nice, but now scammers know how many kids and grandkids she has and the name of her granddaughter and that she doesn’t have a husband… hoping she never gets caught off guard.
The more we elders can do this, the better off everyone is. Sometimes I just start speaking Swedish or German and they hang up after a few minutes. It's good to ask lots of questions, which keeps them on the phone longer and can be lots of fun!
I usually recite a Poem in Spanish which I learned in High School in the 1960s. It’s all about El Cid and very boring. They usually hang up! I’m 75 now but I don’t get many scammer calls now as I have caller display and don’t pick up the phone if I don’t recognise the number. Years ago I remember getting a call wanting to get me compensation for my recent ‘accident’ so I went along with it and when he asked what my injuries were I told him they were terrible and he was lucky I could even talk, as I’d been decapitated! They often would swear at me before hanging up.
My grandmother would read the Bible to the scammers, she fell asleep in death awaiting for her to be resurrected.

I am a Gen X 58 year old who will be 60 in two years. Do I become suddenly stupid and fall for scams? Hardly... if it sounds dire it is is a scam. Call the business, bank, or institution they're pretending to be.
I was getting 8-10 scammers calling every single day. I got rid of them recently by getting their first name, then overtaking them, saying I was so glad my grandson (inset their first name) called because I was promised you would call me on your birthday-so I sing Happy Birthday, loudly and off key. Then I very excitedly say thanks for the tickets to Paris, I have my passport ready when is he picking me up?
I have done the same thing, although maybe with a bit more aggravation. It quite often ends with them cussing me out as though they were the victim, or asking me if I can get them a job. A couple have tried to intimidate me, claiming they know where I live and they are sending people over to do whatever.
I do pretty much the same thing but I’m only sixty three years old but I’ll ask them whatever pops into my head I’ll ask about family what their wearing how’s their weather but I haven’t gotten any lately though they’ve seemed to put me on a do not call him list and dang it I miss messing with them too but this lady seems like a great woman I especially loved the one that sang happy birthday to her that was awesome keep up the great work you inspire the rest of us bravo my dear bravo.
Great story. I got a call and they said my mother has to have an operation, so could you help out. I said, you have the wrong number, this the lawyers office. They hung up right away.

Shes clever! You can be angry, or scam them, we do the same thing. I spoke in my father’s accent, said explain again please? And just frustrated them he hung up. He called to see if anyone else could speak? It was so fun. Told him I had my computer ready.. he spoke slowly, I was cracking up! In the end, he said the key is on your keyboard ma’am!!! Listen!! When I said oh I don’t have a keyboard it’s a tablet, he cussed and hung up. End of it.😂😂😂😂. Hope she posts more she’s funny.
My dad does this type of thing. When the scammer calls and asks "How are you doing today?". My dad starts off with, "Well not so good" then goes off making up health problems, trouble at work, all the home appliances breaking, the dog ran away. Pretty much an old country western song where everything has gone wrong.
Eventually they just hang up.

Glad Bumma is getting the best of scammers but unfortunately, getting scammed is a reality for many elders. A 94 yr old family friend who is like an Uncle to me got scammed out of $34k from his bank account. It's truly shameful the level that some people will sink to in order to get money. The world is reciprocal, so as much as they think they're getting over, they will never truly prosper.
The longest time I have kept a scamer on the phone was about 45 minutes, then my better half told me to let him go. I really enjoyed wasting the guys time and as long as he's on the phone with me he can't call anyone else to try to scam anyone else.

The #1 thing my Medicare clients complain about is call center and scam calls. They block the number and a new number comes through!
