    The one thing that they forgot to mention is to tell people to shield with the other hand while they enter their pin number. The reason the scammers put cameras is to see your pin number so that when the scammers have collected all these card information, they match it to the recorded PIN number. That's how I was scammed years ago in the UK. So please shield while you are putting in your PIN number.

    • @danielduncan6806
      @danielduncan6806 Před 2 měsíci +8

      That is stupid. They don't have to install a camera to catch your pin number. It is a 4 digit code. By hand it takes about 2 hours to brute force it. Using a computer, or other computing device like a smartphone, it takes about 10 seconds. And unless your pin number is 9999 it will take less time. Like, if your pin number is something like 5836, it will take about 5 seconds, maybe 6 seconds. And even if they get locked out after X number of attempts, so what? They'll just move on to the next card. Installing a camera to catch people entering their pin merely increases profits, but is absolutely unnecessary.
      I once had my card compromised. I've never used physically used it, in fact, the card that got compromised is the card I use for Amazon purchases. It was just straight up brute forced; the entire thing, the card number, the security number on the back, and my pin. The whole thing. No skimmer necessary. Someone in Texas ended up with it, about a thousand miles away. I asked the fraud department guy on the phone how something like that can happen. He said they can just do that, just like that.

    I learned this from my daughter, who worked for a credit union. Have a regular checking account that you keep with a low balance, and then a second checking account that isn't attached to the debit card. This limits how much can be stolen from you. You can move between checking accounts without those "too many transactions in a month" fees that moving between a savings account and a checking account cause.

      First of all....stop overdraft privileges from regular checking to keep from paying them stupid fees.
      Then get a free checking account that can only be drafted out of by the banking app or from inside the bank. No debit card linked to it so it can't be hacked. When shopping, put what you are spending or about to spend in your regular checking from the free checking account via your banking app. If your card gets hacked they only get the money in your regular checking and not the free checking account. I keep a few dollars in there after each purchase for miscellaneous crap but if you skim me, you only getting 10 - 20 bucks. You can use the free checking account as a savings account. Been doing this for years with NO issues here. If payment is declined, log into your banking app and transfer money into the regular checking from the free checking to finish your purchase. No overdraft fees to deal with, savings you more money. Also don't pay for gas at the pump, go inside to pay. And try not to get gas from just anywhere. That will limit skimming and bad fuel.

    Never use your debit card as a credit card for purchasing stuff. Always use the tap to pay feature of card instead of any reader that requires full insertion of card or swiping. If at an ATM & using tap to activate, always make sure you finish & close the transaction completely back to the welcome screen after you finish your withdrawal or whatever. Never use any card at the gas pump for insertion other than a branded gas card with a lower limit (Shell Card, Chevron card, etc.), so that it limits what can be done with it if the data is stolen somehow.

    How are these people getting access to these ATMs? It looks like they’re walking right up to them. There should be an issue with this. Why is the bank not checking their surveillance every night this is on the bank or the ATM holders or whoever they need to check their surveillance every night for suspicious activity at their ATMs… I do not think people should be held accountable when the banks can do something about this check surveillance every day to make sure there’s no suspicious activity going on. "How are these people getting access to these ATMs? It looks like they’re walking right up to them." That's sort of the entire point of an ATM -- to walk right up to it and withdraw your cash. And as far as banks checking surveillance every day for suspicious activity. . . do you really expect a bank to pay someone to sit at a computer just looking through video footage all day long?
