Entire teaching staff at Ohio preschool quits | NewsNation Now

  • All of the teaching staff at St. Peter's United Church of Christ Preschool in Ohio recently quit their jobs. Although the teachers said they had dedicated their lives to helping children learn, their decision came because of a lack of financial transparency from the church council. This included finances the teachers themselves had raised.

In fact, there are more shady people, because the church gives you this veil of honor, no questions asked. Especially when it comes to access to children or money, there will be those who have ill intent.

@@Susweca5569 You should be suspicious of everyone until they've proven trustworthy. All people are capable of wrongdoing, given the right motivation and opportunity. True Christians, and churches operated properly, will be trustworthy because they'll live according to Christ's teachings and apply those principles to their business dealings. But bad people will call themselves Christian or use a church as cover for their own purposes and they don't always strive to do what Christ would. Just like bad people have become doctors, nurses, politicians, police officers, and non-profit charities in order to prey on others. The Bible teaches Christians to correct one another in love, but to remove a person from the group who refuses to correct their wrong behavior. Churches who haven't done so are not behaving as they ought.

Very sad but maybe they will find out later that the church was surviving off the monies that came in from the day care. If that was the case they should of told the employees that. I think any time a church and daycare are together there does need to be accountability of the funds so then it i clear where the monies are going? Also if the daycare is run separate from the church there needs to be different budgets for each. So maybe that was not happening and then that is why they would not show it on paper.

Per another news source, the "entire staff" quitting was four people. The total amount of funds in question is approximately $53,000 over the years. Perhaps preschool and church funds were comingled with the latter paying salaries and expenses during years when enrollment and fundraising weren't high enough. These women should have raised this issue when it began 18 years ago or whenever.

Except that the community has already donated a lot of money to the church for exactly this purpose. Do they have the resources to do it again?
The parishioners of the church should have a strike: No more tithes until the church council opens all the books. Hit 'em in the pocketbook; that's where they'll feel it.

  • @catbriggs8362
    @catbriggs8362 Před 15 dny +1

I admire these teachers putting their jobs on the line. Those who donated money could stand up and demand an accounting for its use. If they donated it for the school, it should not have been used elsewhere without their consent. It's not unreasonable to demand transparency for donated funds. Unfortunately, there are poor practices (and outright bad ones) in many organizations, including churches. This doesn't mean all churches are evil or bad.

It's funny, no matter the situation people will always look for a way to exploit systems and gain unfair advantages. I used to go to a church and quit due to depression and personal issues, shortly after it split because one of the staff was caught having stolen more then $150,000 from donations for the new building; fled to another state and the leadership didn't press charges. So obviously that caused shock waves and basically caused 1/2 the people to leave.

  • @everlastinglife5978

I don't know what the situation is here, but in the past, I have seen at least three "pre-schools" use church facilities. The folks who run them do not pay a reasonable rent for the use of the building--electricity and heat, cleaning and insurance costs. So those costs are born by the church members despite the fact that they have no control over the program or the budget of the school.

How many staff members did they have?
How much are they paid monthly?
How many of the 102 students were 2 day tuition & how many where 3 day tuition?
How many hours per day was pre-school? Is it year round?
The school made a minimum of $11,730 from tuition and a maximum of $15,810 per month. If school was open 9 months a year the minimum collected is $105,570 with a maximum of $189,720 if all 102 students paid 3 day tuition year round. On tuition alone and not knowing the hours the pre-school was open. It would be difficult to support very many employees. Without knowing the amount of the donations its hard to tell what's left after insurance, wages, state employment with holdings and overhead are taken out the the $105,570 to $189,720 they made. Do they carry a reserve for emergencies? If so, how much.
It would be interesting to see the books.

I work at a university that has existed for over 200 years, and the last few years there has been sort of a political coup coordinated with state government. That past leadership got us through the Great Financial Crisis, caught up the IT infrastructure, and got us online during COVID. The new leadership immediately put all the marketing people under one roof, and rather than serve all the university, they only serve the new president in a doublespeak campaign. It seems less about value creation and more about political control. It's weird.

What would be more effective is if the parents pulled their kids cus that makes a bigger impact. I'd pull my kid if I knew this was happening cus it means that church is basically stealing from what parents put in, both in terms of tuition and fundraisers, and it means my kid's education is being undermined. They'll find new staff who are unaware of the problems that they will inherit, but it will hit them in the pocketbook if the parents banned together and boycotted.
