wow. it's rare that I learn something totally knew in mtg (other than new mechanics obviously) but that blocking with the shadow while taking a direct hit can allow it to survive cuz the damage is simultaneous n the state based actions check my life total before creatures Toughness, so he gets stronger before he has the chance to die. that's really cool, thanks Prof, I don't know if I'd ever have noticed that without it happening online since I don't play high level tournaments
The focus on gameplay rather than just card choice is what makes this series a step above similar content - good job prof :)
This can also happen if you cast Dismember for the phyrexian mana cost; since the life loss happens as part of the cost of the spell, your shadow gets an effective +4/+4 immediately.
yeah ok, but if he turns into a 8/8 does the other monster he is blocking die then? Or nobody dies??
I love your modern tech videos they have become my new favorite of yours.
Prof does so much for the community it’s unreal. I think of him as the father of the game
Even though I don’t play modern at all, it’s always so interesting to listen to you explaining some deck techs. Great job prof !
This is an incredibly interesting deck tech! If I had the money to purchase the cards this is something I would definitely be interested in playing. Excellent job as always professor!
I'm that way with a lot of the decks he's shown, tbh
Joran Moore me too
Guys just make proxies and play some kitchen table magic with friends
6:50 that meme is so old
But still funny
impact font
Noah Sundseth what?
When I decided to play death's shadow in modern, I went to jund as I prefer playing with green than blue. This is a great update to the deck!! Thanks Prof!
@Jojoforpres Thank you!!
Prof. I've just started watching your videos. I love them. Thank you for doing what you do.
Cheers friend!
I do not play modern since 2012 (miss my jund midrange) but is always good to see some modern deck techs. Keep it up, Professor!
Fantastic walkthrough, please make more like this!
I hope you do sn update to this deck Prof! I'd love to see what additions you'd suggest! Both you and Duke helped me fall in love with Jund so much. Value town!!!!
Mono Red prowess is the latest iteration of the tried and true Red Deck Wins formula. I think it is distinct from burn and worth a tech because it is easier to pilot than storm and more powerful than other budget decks.
It's also a pretty easy upgrade into a Boros mentor deck if/when you have the upgrades. I love both decks equally.
I love deck techs so thanks for this one. If Urza or Mox opal doesn't get the ban hammer on Monday, hopefully we get one for one of the Urza decks.
Thanks Prof! Great tech and synopsis.
Great video, Prof! I'd really like to see a deck tech on Tooth and Nail. Even though it's an old deck that's not popular right now, I'd really like to see your take on it.
8:49 The words that flash on the screen for less than a second are (Fun fact: Street Wraith has a power and toughness!). Leave it up for a little longer next time, Professor.
Also needs to be in a part of the video that isn't covered by the time-bar when the video is paused.
Just pause the video
Thanks for always providing us quality content, Prof! Really love these deck techs! Maybe a deck tech on Temur Control would be cool 😄
This is great! I run a sultai shadow deck that uses berserk instead of temur battle rage and plays a bit more control with discard/removal/reanimates
If Berserk was Modern legal a lot of decks would play it for sure!
I love your modern videos!!! Please do more!!!!
Great deck tech Prof.
Jund is a fun color combo in Magic.
I love these deck tech like videos and hope you keep them up.
Beautiful editing
Nice video, it's always enjoying to hear about modern, even tho I don't play it anymore :)
love the editing on this video.
Thank you! [Editor]
@@patricklickman9972 can you please give a link to that Drake meme with the prof?
Hey Professor! Great deck tech! Could you possibly do an updated list for eldrazi and taxes? I know the deck isn't great for the meta right now but it's always been a personal favorite. Thanks again for the excellent content!
Now, these are the videos that i like that i like and keep me coming back. Just one thing. Collector ouphe doesn't kill urza, or shut it down. It just slows it down. Outcome doesn't really care about ouphe and urza just goes around it. Minor point, but an important point.
Awesome please more modern content in the future
Do more Modern Deck-Techs please - so great!
thanks prof for your video!
Really good and interesting deck tech.
Great deck tech would love more
This! More of this!
Fatal Push can't be used with Street Wraith. A permanent needs to leave the battlefield. When you cycle the permanent never enters the battlefield but goes directly to the graveyard.
excellent video!
Mardu Shadow is a great fun deck
Great video.
Now i really want to see someone pull of the mirrorweave combo
The music in the beginning! I could use that for my D&D campaign, what is it called??
I don't play Modern at all and have no interest in doing so but your videos are so entertaining I'm glued here anyways. Thank you for all the work you do!
I like janky stuff Professor: Kithkin Tribal, Werewolf Tribal, Monowhite Tron Tokens, etc. My current ideas is Blizzetkrieg (Blue/Red where I focus on straight up damaging my foes with 2 mana burn spells chopped to 1 with Goblin Electromancer, using Thermo Alchemist, and cards that copy my spells), Bruna's MAGA Stratagem (Wall tribal and counters/protection to buy time for Bruna to come out and hit hard with enchantments and some artifacts), and now I want to do something with Inkwell Leviathan.
I'm thinking monoblue Tron or something with Blue/Black for graveyard revival as an option. I plan on putting Master Transmuters obviously but I don't know what all to put in it. Janky, stupid fun is usually what I go with lol
aria of flame is great sideboard tech against death shadow
I run abzan deaths shadow. Average cmc 1.7. Dont know how many games i have won dropping orzhov charm after my opponent swings out. Plays like a normal midrange deck. Really grinds the opponent down. I used to play junk but all of a sudden the siege rhinos couldnt get over all the tasigurs, anglers, smashers, etc. So i took out some lands, hierarchs, and rhinos and dropped in some shadows, bobs, and orzhov charms. Very strong deck woth a lot of sideboard options thanks to white.
I would like to see A [Deck] Tech on Titan [Shift].
I played against Death's Shadow 3 times, I run runed halo in my sideboard. Fun times
Eh, I prefer the Mardu list but to each their own. Quality video as always Prof, you should do more deck techs.
Id love to play this but .... damn these cards are expensive
I feel ya!
80 dollars just for a sideboard. Oof
I like the editing. Reminds me of Sam's videos.
The highest compliment there is! [Editor]
Hey prof Im a humans player an often I struggle with utilizing the right slots in the deck considering the deck has more cards available than what can fit in, even recently we got Charming Prince and its still not clear if he has a place in the deck. In other words a tech on your preferred build would be a helpful video for me and other humans players
The next Deck Tech should be Urza Ascendancy, or maybe a pauper deck like Skred
Do a wirza deck tech please. Im thinking about building the deck or maybe a thopter gifts variant.
Ooh, do UR Delver!
Jund'em never fails xD
I'd like to see what new Doran, The Siege Tower tech people have seen lately. Ixalan just about had me soiled when they gave us Slaughter the Strong. How else has Doran's game changed recently?
Prof make something about titanshift.
The first time I went to a modern FNM I got bullied by the 3 Amulet Titan decks with my Standard green deck.
I still use the green deck for modern since it rotated out. Got a top 4 with it
grixis shadow is the shit tho, I love stubborn denial so much.
Love beating Death's Shadow players with Norin Soul Sisters.
I love you Prof
Enjoy your deck techs should for all formats an anything goes deck hint hint evil professor lol Definitely feel like being taught by a teacher.
Amazing video as always.
Question: what the name of that song? 0:39-3:16
Where do you play professor? I would love to get a game in with you. I live in washougal. Are you going to Commandfest Seattle? I’ll be there Saturday.
Please do elves next, Prof :D
Modern elves please😁
Next deck should be an updated version of Soul Sisters.
YES!
Not just yet, I'm still buying my version :)
Jonathon Hobbs who Top 8'd the last Open cited his list from Brandon Dollaway, who is one of the premier players for Death's Shadow lists in Modern. He notes that W6 is bad for the list as you don't normally do well in long games. The exception with Tracker is that it provides actual card adavantage and is fetchable with Traverse the Ulvenwald. This is at its heart an aggro/combo toolbox deck. So save yourself almost $200 and don't get W6 if you're building this from scratch. And while I don't take anything away from Ally who is a great player, generally people have had great success following Brandon's lists and SB guides involving Death's Shadow, so look him up on twitter. With my experience he has been an easy person to interact with.
Nice vid
I would like to see a Dredge Deck, with solutions after Hogaak ban
Igor Novogradec there isn’t one move on
Do a video on Jeskai Turbo Fog
Deck tech on the boring but consistent TitanShift with the addition of Field of the Dead?
Does anyone knows the name of the background music from 0:40 onwards? It would be super cool if someone could help me finding it! 😅👍
Pls make a video about devoted devestation
Would put lightning greaves in this deck.
wow i kinda wanna try this- is this really better than grixis DS tho?
Updated Modern Ponza please! xD
Can you do a grixis Control deck tech next
Mox opal was banned recently what would be a good replacement
Mono Red Prison Proff!! Please!!
Let’s see some modern mill
Now that once upon a time is banned in modern, what replacement should i use?
Subliminal Fun Facts!
Good video: It’s a great video.
What about Nic-fit like deck in Modern? :)
I'd love to see an infect tech
seems legit. Though absolutely no GY hate WILL bite you in the ass. Dredge may be back to just below pre hogakk levels due to secret keeper, but that is still strong enough to run you over with burst if you don't hate on it.
Tron tech!
What was the fun fact about Street Wraith??? Can’t manage to read it
Mardu Death's Shadow is where its at.
If Death's Shadow is the main card in the deck, might as well make a one-drop deck with cards that will make you pay life, search cards, and give creatures haste.
U/W Control! :D
Deck tech wurza!
I wanna have modern decks if they would cost a quarter of their current price...
What's the art the Prof has up when he's talking about the sideboard.
That's the art for Thoughtseize from the Amonkhet Invocations :)
We want more modern
I play this with tarfire
What is the artwork at 9 minutes?
Mono green tron pls
Still think Abzan will make a comeback, any day now...
Class is in session. The professor has spoken. Time to start tokin
Still trying to figure out a solid replacement for once upon a time.
Is there a reason you say card advantage instead of card parity?
Modern mono black control
I saw someone playing a spicy sultai list at the last IQ I went to
