  • 2 dollar bills are not unique to the United States - you can find them all over the world. Countries like Brazil, Canada, Ukraine and even smaller countries all have their versions of a $2 note in their economy. Take a trip around the world to learn some geography and foreign currency at the same time!

    In the Philippines, our equivalent to the $2 bill (not being seen in circulation) is the 200 Piso bill, and in Japan their equivalent is the ¥2000 bill. Both are still legal tender but It seems to me that people seem to dislike bills with the number 2 on them 🤣

I have a question about them: What other countries have discontinued the $2 bill and are they considered legal tender?

      Thanks for being a fan. I covered most of that in this video. There were a few other countries I left out, like Colombia. I'm not sure if they'd still be accepted in their country. If they were, the spender would be doing so at a loss, since those bills are probably worth more.

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  Před 3 lety

      I can't speak for how often they're used, but I know all three are not thought of highly by consumers, and consequently, all get mostly hoarded. This further adds to the perception that they are not "normal" currency. For rarity, there are over 1.3 billion $2 bills. I did not research the number of those coins out there, but the numbers should be close, at least.

    What I'm more interested to know is how common in the world is it for a currency to have denominations of moderate value (say the equivalent of between 10¢ - $20 USD) that are printed or minted but extremely uncommon to see, much like the US $2 bill, $1 coin, and 50¢ coin.

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  Před 3 lety

      I learned a little about that when researching this video, but I don't know enough to intelligently comment on it here. My impression was that foreign currencies were based on the convenience of value versus practicality in each economy, and the denominations were set up accordingly and adjusted over the years as needs changed.

    if there's a $1 bill and a 1 cent coin, a penny. why can't there be a 2 cent coin as well??? it would only make sense I think since, 1 the pennies cost the government more to make since their worth. and plus, Canada has them and doesn't have pennies anymore. I think they would be very useful and just make our lives easier in some ways when it comes to handing out change, im a cashier myself at retail store so this would make it a lot easier.
