It's honestly sad how far things have gone downhill in such a short amount of time. 15 years ago when my wife and I were in high school (we weren't married at the time) there was no shortage of good, or even decent, movies to watch. We would go the the theatre almost every weekend. Now, there may be 1 movie per year that I am excited to see and even then I am fine with just waiting for it to end up on streaming services instead of paying 5 times the price of owning the movie to watch a likely mediocre product. The last movie I watched in theatres was Sonic 2 and that was only because my 4 year old loved the first Sonic movie. If studios would stop just making movies that feel like procedurally generated propaganda and focused on making good, engaging stories then people like me may start going back to the theatres.

They tried to make us like Captain Marvel by having her save Tony at the start of Endgame, having Tony say, "we need her she's new blood" during his confrontation with Cap, and make her have a "Thor lands in Wakanda" moment when she arrived to fight Thanos. Their cynical approach in forcing her down our throat is why we have this reaction. It's seriously not complicated.

One of the reasons I ultimately didn't like End Game was because they went full Poochie with Captain Marvel. A character they neither needed nor should have included in what was essentially the send-off for the original Avengers cast.
Also, her rescuing Tony made no sense. Nobody would have any idea where to even look for Tony. When the Guardians split up in IW Thor and Rocket go to Svartleheim and Starlord and co. go to Nowhere. From Nowhere, they then go to Titan, but Thor and Rocket didn't know that, nobody did.
On top of that, they weren't even on Titan they were adrift in space so even if the surving Avengers/Guardians checked Titan only because of it's connection to Thanos they still wouldn't have thought to look for Tony in any adjacent space. Not to mention, Captain Marvel didn't even have a ship, so how could she locate them?
It was a stupid, contrived way to open what ultimately was a stupid and contrived movie.

I was not expecting to see The Don in this video, you have made my day, my week, my year!!! The Don sacrificed himself for all of our sins, he showed love to millions of orphans in the many orphanages he built and finds himself!
Becky, you can rest easy knowing your husband, the true hero of the universe, is alive and well! All it takes is a little smile to bring about a little happiness in your life, to think the evil despot of a monster Carol (Karen Absorbed) made him sacrifice his life for those he loves. What about Little Timmy Carol (Karen Absorbed)? What about his ball game, what about the soup kitchen The Don works at? What about all the people who rely on him to do what they need to?
And to think she stole his bike and jacket, she just had to take a trophy too didn’t she? Luckily we all know The Don is immortal so long as an orphan needs love, and there are people to be saved. But even still, to think he had to deal with this monster who the world treats as a hero… For shame Carol (Karen Absorbed) for shame.

I'd say it's a good thing that on polls most females actually want "mind reading" as their first chosen super power - but they'd also never think about consent issues using it. Or the fact the mind is the last unassailably "safe" place most victims of the abuse they always tout as so evil, will instantly retreat to. Yet they'll gleefully violate that without a second thought. Do you want to see what an army of Jean Grey's would do to us as men, without consideration of morals?
Super Strength's not the scary power. We already die for them a hell of a lot more often than they would for us, given divorce rates, and who throws the first stone at a marriage license. Being mind fucked until you don't even know what way is up... that's nightmare fuel. It'd be a new level of gas-lighting. How bout genuinely being made to believe you actually did "want it" whenever she wants sex, no matter what she looks like, or bars of attraction... just because she can make that happen. Being turned permanently impotent just because you dared look at her when she doesn't want you to. Yeah, I'd like to believe most females could be like Sue Storm, or the better written more nuanced versions of Wonder Woman... but most would probably end up a lot closer to the more recent version of Scarlet Witch. They'll never know what you sacrificed, by not blasting us all into infinity, and beyond. Gah.

They couldn't write females, and now they can't write anyone. It's like they woke up after endgame was done and forgot basic creative writing principles. They can't write compelling narratives, their characters choices are so inconsistent and irrational that nobody can relate, they don't strive for values that anyone cares about, the hero's journey has been replaced with the hero's momentum, their antagonists are not likeable, understandable or a threat to the protagonists, they've butchered old characters in the name of propelling new characters, and they forgot that everything doesn't need a punch line, they no longer let moments linger.

I’m sick of seeing these movies that are clearly set up to break the gender role and make it blatantly obvious with the message they are trying to get across. I truly believe Disney and other film companies will never understand that them doing these types of films actually undermines the concept of gender equality because they’re making it as if this PARTICULAR film is the exception and not the status quo. It’s how they butchered She-Hulk and so many other female superhero characters. It’s really offensive to women in general when you think about it. I think the saddest part about the current state of the MCU (although in general it's just tired, like the whole superhero genre) is that I (and most people) WANT the movies to still be good. As Drinker put it, even if they had just been churning out safe cookie cutter Blue Beetle tier movies instead of the agenda-pushing slop then the MCU would probably still be making money hand over fist and dragging along for another decade. But instead they (partly thanks to Covid, it's true) just decided to shart out a constant stream of mediocre gentrified, diversified slop onto Disney+ which has completely ruined both the Star Wars and MCU IPs down to essentially nothing...
And to think, they actually planned on releasing a new Rey or Rey-adjacent movie (or God forbid, trilogy) ran by Rian Johnson and/or Dave and Dan from Game of Thrones infamy. What story could they even do, Ahsoka's "plot" was essentially what Rey's would be in any sequel to TLJ/RoS, just a tired bored "woe is me" 'stoic' (it's toxic when men do it but okay when women do it of course?) girlboss who 'reluctantly' somehow just wins at everything because she's all the Jedi or whatever.

I remain skeptical of Captain Marvel really doing a $1B at the box office. Movies that gross a billion have people packing theaters and a large core of repeat views in theaters. I didn’t see a single picture of a full excited theater goers waiting for CM. MasterCard sent hundreds of thousands of free CM passes to card rewards members. I think Disney counted every single one of those as a real sale wether it got used or thrown in trash. When a movie does a real billion at the box office the studio cannot wait to make a sequel. Look at Barbie. Marvel has been dragging its feet like it’s supposed billion dollar Film actually bombed.

What's causing the current crop of Marvel movies failing is they believe that everyone has seen the D+ shows. Truth is, compared to movies - the shows are a bit harder to digest because of the runtime, and not everyone is subscribed to D+.
I remember watching Doc Strange and the Multiverse of Madness with my dad who's a big fan of the MCU (watched every bit of them in the cinema with the family). Not having seen Wandavision - he was confused - why did Wanda turn evil, and who are those kids? He was clueless on what was happening (this coming from a guy who teaches biochemistry).
I wouldn't be surprised if the Marvels bomb, because these movies are alienating those who haven't seen the D+ shows, especially if this ties up with that ending scene from Ms. Marvel.
The early movies up to endgame were well loved because it was linear and easy to follow even if you don't know jack about the comics. People wait until the end credits anticipating for the next chapter and how the story moves forward... it actually builds up to something... that gets a resolution on the next Marvel movie that you watched.
Starting from Doc Strange, to be able to fully appreciate things - you have to be invested in the shows - which not everyone is or has access to, especially the worldwide market which gave the movies the big revenue boost. I bet a lot of people will be shocked when they see Sam Wilson as Cap.
Again, early MCU is successful because of the combined viewership of the comic fans and the casual viewer who just want to be entertained. Sadly, Disney's current decisions are turning both of those markets off by emphasizing too much on "the message" (for the comic fans) and "you'll be left out if you haven't seen the D+ shows (for the casual movie goer).

I've just bailed on her comic after a forlorn hope that character I loved would return, not the one now I hardly recognise. The writing of the comic been poor with lots of fillers.
