Uniondale, South Africa, Little/Klein Karoo

Uniondale is a small town in the Little Karoo in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. The town was formed in 1856 by the joining of two towns, Hopedale and Lyons. Its primary claim to fame is the ghost story of the Uniondale hitcher, but as the townsfolk will tell you, there is so much more to Uniondale than just a ghost. The town is connected by the N9 road and the R339 road.

I had to click on this video as it bring back memories of driving down to Hartenbos from De Aar as a kid and listening to Anton Goosen singing about die spook van Uniondale. Such good memories of beautiful towns along the way. Unfortunately I've left SA in 2005 and now going back to there and seeing how everything is degraded its just the saddest thing ever.

I grew up in Willowmore some 58km from Uniondale.. Don't ask me why but we referred to Uniondale as John Deere
