I'm an electrical contractor. Just the other day a customer wanted a quick estimate over text. I'm happy to do that, but for the type of job he had, it was really better for him to let me see the property in person. I explained to him that if I give him an estimate over text, I have to assume worst-case scenario and factor in all the unknowns, and the price I give will be much higher. If I see the job first, which takes literally 10 minutes, then I can factor down to every foot of wire and hour or labor. And that becomes a quote that I'll stand behind. Ended up getting the job, completing it the next day and got paid within minutes.

Metal additive manufacturing is going to explode without a doubt. I want one and everyone I know will absolutely want one once they become viable. It's not about "finding the application" it's about the viability of the equipment. Same with all the other types of 3D printing. It's about the machines themselves.

I definitely get the whole "your timeline expands to the time that's available", cause there's always something that can take up the time.. but then I have the issue of underestimating and always being late (not necessarily with making stuff), so it can be hard to find that happy medium 🤷🏿‍♀️

lol… your voice when you do these segments (especially at the beginning) makes me happy inside. My boyfriend does a similar one when doing his trending broadcasting for work, then my dad when he is explaining how-tos with things to me.
    Love love it!!!!

Hey Gabe that's great, hope Slant 3D goes through the ceiling.... No... the ROOF! PS You mentioned one time about doing a session on kickstarter, and it just reminded me today that I'd love to see that, if you have a chance to do one... Especially with all the experience you've had with it...

I loved seeing the video on the filiment manufacturing process. Every time I see videos like that I am like "man, I would love to help in those processes, but I feel so unqualified for it" so I just continue to live vicariously though those videos learning more so someday I can do those types of projects even if only on my own.

Been here for a while and have been following your channel for most 3d printing tips. Will you be releasing any new content like that soon? I liked the video on new and alternative ways to make joins between parts. Was looking to get suggestions on printer maintenance and the likes. Since you folks have enormous print farms, I wanted to know how one could go about maintaining printers and what to do in the case of failures like the nozzle unscrewing itself during print or the hot-end becoming loose.
Thanks for creating informative videos. Hope you guys have a good one!

Sounds to me like the nozzle was tightened in without it being to temp if it's not that can happen

Hey Gabe, what is the relationship in price between a prototype one-off and regular prints?
Assuming the same filament and settings as your prototype wizard, I'm under the impression the cost-per-print would remain the same - even at scale - since each piece requires X printing hours.
Until now I've been dropping files in the prototype wizard to provide accurate estimations of cost (and print time), but please let me know if this is not the case!

depends on the engineering behind the project. you can easily waste/multiply the budget without ever going to production! :)

What is the general kg limit of a usable spool, from a printer's mechanical ability to unspool it when printing? Difficult question to phrase,
How big of a spool could a tangled spooler spool if a printer could unspool such a spool?

    • @RNMSC
      @RNMSC Před 2 měsíci

Since I've seen printers physically pick themselves up when the filament tangled on the spool, and while it was a desktop printer, it wasn't a light machine (One of those was a Wanhau Duplicator i3 Plus, I would say that your limiting factors are the strength ofthe extruder, and the friction (and ineria) of the spool and spool holder of filament. That is going to vary by extruder type. I wouldn't hold out for much above 10 kilo for a Creality K1, but if you discover you need to bolt down your printer, you may have better results.

I believe the quote you were looking for is Parkinson's Law en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkinson%27s_law?wprov=sfla1 :
"Work will expand to fill up the time alloted for its completion." It's not from psychology, though. Parkinson was an economist, talking about how optimizing work flow isn't as straight forward as you would think. So pretty much exactly what you were saying.
