a bruised reed He will not break, and a faintly burning wick He will not quench
Isaiah 42:3
All of us have tasted brokenness at some stage of our lives. To deny this also exists in our walk of faith would be dishonest as we find ourselves sometimes confused, even angry as we try to understand God’s will and purpose. This album emerges from that struggle, so clearly seen in the Psalms, of God’s people longing to serve Him with a fervour born of love, despite doubts and despair at the evil in the world, the church and ourselves that causes us to see ‘through the glass darkly’.
Having been broken before Him though, with the reality of our sins and our failures, we find ourselves un|broken, forgiven, lifted in praise and adoration of our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of glory, Lord of lords and the Author of our faith.
This album is dedicated to all those involved in the struggle of life, love and righteousness with the prayer of the exile band that you will come through the battles to know Him closer than a brother.
In the Stillness
by Rebecca Hardie
Soloist: Rebecca Hardie
Discovering that a dream that you have been chasing is not the same as the reality that God has for you can bring many different emotions; disbelief, confusion, frustration, heart break. I wrote this song a couple of months after such an experience in my own life, when I finally laid down all of my anger and resentment, acknowledged that I was either in this situation with God or without Him and once again handed over my life.
In the stillness, thinking only of you;
All the strivings of this foolish heart,
The hopes and dreams lay broken at your feet.
And as I kneel down here before Your throne,
And as the tears roll down my face
I'm finally in a place were I can say.
“This is for you, all that I am,
'Cos You made me and you loved me,
I'm everything You planned.
Take these faces that I hide behind
'Cos there's no fooling You.
Please take instead this honest broken heart
And draw me close to you.”
In the stillness, thinking only of You.
Finally where I should be,
Fixing my gaze upon Your face.
And as I kneel down here before Your throne,
And as the tears roll down my face
I'm finally in a place where I hear You say:
“This was for you, all that I am,
'Cos I made you and I love you,
You’re everything I planned.
Take these faces that you hide behind
And be the one I made,
Take strength in me come sit beneath my wings
And I'll hide you from the storm.”
