I am not British, but I am an English speaking person from the Republic of Ireland. Having lived in Spain for four years, I was made to feel very welcome, the Spanish are very friendly, and like you Stu, I would advise the English to ignore the British press. Keep up your good work Stu. 👏
So, what you are saying is you have many close Spanish friends? Correct?
@coffermartin77
My comment is self explanatory.
Good advice re tabloid press Stuart. And learning the language. I’m a frequent visitor because of family and have been learning Spanish and I’m in my mid 70s. If you try to communicate in Spanish the Spanish people like/appreciate it. I’ve experienced a lot of friendliness. Just smile and be interested in your environment
My wife and I are Canadian and we’ve been living here for a couple years and we love it We’ve never had any problems with the locals and yes we are learning Spanish and locals have appreciated us trying. Have a good one.
I live in Senegal and we don't see a drop of water for at least 6 months every year, no water shortage here. One word: the sea of plastic where vegetables are grown in the south of Spain and require enormous volumes of water.
I live in Scotland lad. Let’s find a way to send you our everyday rain.
I can send a sample in the post tomorrow. Probably be dry by the time it takes to get to you. Our postal system isn’t very good either.
That 18 words..
I am english and live in casariche andalucia. Re curtains on doors i have one on mine and it is inside to keep sunshine out. They are also used on the outside to project the door from the sun. We watch your show and enjoy it we have been watching since the covid out break. From christine.
Aye you are right about the British press.Spain is great
Tourists do need to speak a bit of Spanish because it shows you're trying and it becomes possible to get the help you need when necessary. Just my two cents.
Great video buddy. Keep up the great work 😊
Very interesting, Stuart. Thank you
I live in Ibiza, and I have come across UK prejudice from the Postmen. There have been 5 or 6 letters/cards sent to me from the UK, but none of them have arrived. On one occasion the postman was leaving or flats and SWMBO asked the postman if he had seen a letter, and he reached into his bag, and there it was
Yes, I've noticed this also post Brexit. Parcels sent from the UK and paid for a the correct rate have NOW seen as much as a 50% increase before they will deliver.
@@rogerdavies2796That’s true of all parcels sent from outside the EU.
@@shinyshinythings I thought so. A scam.
A letter from the UK was returned 4 months later marked "Incomplete address". I checked it and checked it, and the address was full and correct.
We are still waiting for the Birthday card I sent in October 2022
@@davidking6348the postal service for things like birthday cards and letters has always been very unreliable. And since Brexit I never send parcels to Spain. It’s far too expensive, often the postage costs more than the value of the goods inside the package
Mil gracias por el vídeo he nunca tenido algún problemas en España cuando pasando tiempo allí.
Mil gracias 👍
In sagrada familia last night a tanker was watering the tree in the street and this morning the park put on sprinklers
I'm hoping that if/when I get to Spain, that the government will have, to some degree or another, gotten this problem solved of greedy landlords preferring short term holiday rentals for tourists, as opposed to long term for the locals. It's good to see that the government is doing something about it. I plan on getting a humble, small, cheap Spanish flat. Living side by side along with the rest of the Spanish people. 👍 Hey Stuart, I'm here in Norfolk, VA. After selling the house back in Tucson, AZ, I moved cross country. After getting an apartment here, I plan on taking a train ride up to Washington D.C to the Spanish Embassy and talk to an immigration agent/ consultant about how to best move forward with my process. The usual steps to getting an NLV. Anyways, hope you're doing well Stuart. I'm still watching your videos even though I've been busy and haven't put up a comment or email, DM, etc in a long time. Love your channel, mate. Tiene cuidado Stuart! Hasta Pronto. Chow! I❤🇪🇦
They need to do the same here in the Balearic Islands urgently..!
I’m in Tenerife now and tge rents have almost doubled since covid ,, example - a studio before covid was around 400 per month … now are around 700 . A one bed can be anywhere from 800 to 1400 per month .. people are struggling to find accommodation for long let’s
Far more to that kidnapping than a chance encounter.. Wouldn't take much scratching beneath the surface to find out..
If the spanish government are investing in the chinese, i hope the spanish dont forget that there is nothing as such as a free lunch,if it sounds to be to good to be true, it usually isn't,the chinese are a clever government.
Nice background!!
Rentals are an issue anywhere that is popular for tourists. The West country is the same with locals priced out of the property market but wanting the benefits brought by tourists.
The Chinese factories setting up in spain will surely employ spanish people in the fctories and use the local elecricians, plumbers etc to maintain the factories. Not to mention the building of the factories in the first place.
They have their people but yes I've seen some Spanish working for them. It's bcs they're business partners
Another excellent and thought provoking vid. Perhaps a solution (of sorts) to the Airbnb problem would be stricter regulation in towns and cities and an encouragement of more in the under populated countryside. I live in a rural area were depopulation is a big problem, it would be nice to see a bit of support and encouragement for us countryside dwellers where it has become almost impossible to make any money from almonds, figs and now olives😢.
Hi Stu, you’re right, I should have said existing GV holders will *probably* be just fine. No details have been announced yet.
Right at the end you have a Lightning Jack moment 😂
Iv'e lived in north Galicia for some 15 years, the only unfriendly comments Iv'e had was from Gitanos, and that was only the once
😮😮😮
Regarding the commentor who says EVs don't work and harm the environment: I don't know anything about Chinese electric vehicles but my US hybrid Chevrolet volt (aka Opel Ampera in EU) with 8kw hour battery has been the most reliable car I've ever had and has gotten 105 miles per gallon (44 km/Liter). Lithium may have been mined to get it but 8 years of 105 mpg definitely nullifies its manufacture and more. I use petrol 8 gallons once a month.
Maybe the people that works there should consider, to work another place for 2 years - No workers - no tourist ??
From a business point of view, Spain needs to protect its assets and that means people too. The answer is less tourists through increased charges. The money made presently should be shared with the service workers by the business owners and anyone else making more money from increased tourism. This may sound elitist but this idea that everyone should have the right to go somewhere is unsustainable when the population of the planet is so high.
Yes yes yes you can say that again. Overall population of the world.
This may have a bearing on water supply shortages.
Or is it poor management of the water industry???? Water leaks etc..
It's been some years but in some areas of Spain.
Thair were quite a number of urbanisation estates built.
Did they all get sold or rented out????.
I would have thought that hotel workers and restaurant bar staff .
Would or should have accommodation as part of the employment package..!!!!
It's pretty simple. If you don't speak Spanish, you'll need to be around someone who does if you're going to get anything done. If you don't have someone who can translate for you, good luck in that. And that comment about no abuse of Brits in Torrevieja, i dispute that. Even though i don't live in Torrevieja i know it well. But don't despair as there are other migrants that Spaniards can't stand too.
A Turk of Swedish nationality kidnapped in Málaga by a Lebanese and a Syrian. Syriasly. I don't even know how I could pay something using cryptocurrencies
Me neither 😂
I think the whole issue of people feeling they are being picked on because of nationality may have more to do with how well they have integrated.. here in our little corner of Ireland I've found ukranians have worked hard to learn the language and culture and integrate.. over 50% who came to Ireland have secured employment- impressive. Yet, another group from the ME fleeing war have not done so and i have seen very strong resentment building against them..integration is a two way street..
I lived in spain. I used to use locals for work around the villa. A visiting spanish friend asked me how much i’d paid to have a new bathroom installed. She was aghast. I subsequently found out there were different prices for foreigners versus what spanish are charged.
My experience is that Spanish people like English speakers from anywhere and would like to hire us for English lessons whether we teach or not.
I’m a Uk resident. I just tried to move to Spain , but it’s nearly impossible if you want to work too.
If you know anything I don’t, please get in touch.
it's called Brexit effect..
Then the UK should follow, and pull the same strokes!@@billlynn8256
I'm Portuguese and I am still trying to secure in work myself
Well Southern Europe is not exactly the place to find good work 😅
High unemployment. I lived in Spain PRE Brexit. Spanish will always be given a job ahead of foreigners.
Kind of silly to crack down on someone renting out a tent in a rooftop garden - that’s not doing anything to hurt the housing market - but it probably annoyed the heck out of her neighbor!
