  • This video will help you build a minimal outerwear collection that's ready for any season and occasion, no matter how old you are or where you live.
Huge thank you to Geologie for sponsoring this video! I've been using Geologie regularly for a long time, and my skin looks better than ever.
Take Geologie's free 30-second diagnostic quiz to see what your skincare regimen would look like: geologie.shrw9t.net/Nn5nO
Or check out Geologie on Amazon: geni.us/sZcwl4 (Amazon)
How many pieces of outerwear do you really need? 10? 5? Maybe just 1 or 2? Obviously, this depends on where you live. If you’re in southern California and don’t travel much, a couple of lightweight jackets might suffice.
On the other hand, if you live in New York City and travel frequently, you probably need a more substantial coat collection. In this guide, we’ll try to determine the bare minimum number of outerwear pieces you really need to be covered (pun intended) for every season and occasion.
Remember: minimalism is not a competition. It’s not about owning the fewest number of things. It’s about not owning things you don’t actually need. So, in this case, we’re trying to whittle our outerwear collection down to the pieces that actually get worn regularly.

Great video, as always. Additional Tipp: we (“get the most bank for buck community”) sometimes try to max out the functionality part of clothing too much. We want the warmes jacket, the most undestroyable boot. But you don’t need an arctic expedition or Mount Everest proof jacket if you live somewhere where it snows a couple of times a year! Diminishing returns are real and you can achieve 80% of the result with 20% of the effort/price.

    i. love. outerwear. besides warmth, it gives your attire depth. especially in the winter, i don't want to be wearing the same coat with everything as that's boring and it's all people see of your outfit when it's cold out. so i tend to have lots of fall/winter coats. from street, to preppy, to outdoorsy, i love having a variety. the same applies to my footwear. my wallet, on the other hand feels differently 😊

I want to say my experience being a minimalist for 1 year
IT IS AWFULLY BORING AFTER SOMEPOINT!
I have heard that many youtubers tell it is like a uniform. It saves time...Its TRUE!
    But, but...
That little time is really not worth it. It ain't much!
So my opinion is, JUST BUY AS MANY CLOTHES AS YOU LIKE AND WEAR EM'.
    Enjoy! :)
Don't be weighed down by MINIMALISM

I just moved back to South Florida from the living in the DC area for over a year and realized that I've accumulated a bit of outerwear that may not suit for sub tropical climates. Being 5.1 I feel restricted to jackets rather than coats. Always wanted to try a topcoat, but anything even fitted feels to long past the jacket waist line. I have these smart bomber jackets, material wise feels more and looks more like short blazers. Perfect for out out. my favourite everyday wear is leather jackets only bomber or racer (slim and not too box shape). I tried the biker jacket but it all ways looks over kill on me. I think in the uk we are a little bit more lucky as xxs is a thing. A good cheat for longer jackets is hoodie under it, for causal not smart. :-)

I thought I was done with coats - I have 3 dressy coats and 2 casual coats. And a 6th coat that I will never wear (I think it's a north face jacket, actually) because it was a gift and not my style
Anywho, it turns out I grew out of black coats. I like that jacket at 7:07 and will probably pick one or two up the next time I'm able to go shopping. Since coats don't usually come cheap this is something to consider if it is your first or second - have different colored coats and jackets so that you don't end up looking the same every single day
Still haven't figured out what to wear in the fall though. I dislike just about every single coat and jacket that is appropriate for rainy weather. AHHHH

Zip up hoodies are pretty versatile tho, can wear it in 90f weather or freezing, just as long as it doesn't rain too hard.

I feel called out by your New York comment. Because that is my style. I describe my style as, when you work in downtown Manhattan in the morning but have to visit the homies in the south Bronx by the evening.

Dude if you live in the real southern California you don't need a jacket till November. There's no spring and summer or fall and winter it's just summer 80 percent of the year and 20 percent winter.

I LOVE the look of a double breasted peacoat, or a nice car coat…but no matter what fabric, color, cut, etc. every time i throw one on, I look like absolute crap. :(
