If you had to start from scratch with no clothing, shoes or accessories, what you buy first? You'd probably focus on the items that get the most use, right? Those pieces that you find yourself wearing 2-3 times a week, or more.
That's what this video is all about. I want to go over X items that I've gotten the most wear and enjoyment out of over the past few years. The cool thing is, once you know what these essential pieces are, you can feel good about investing in high-quality versions of each one.
And this is a great strategy to make sure you're spending money intentionally and not just wasting it on stuff you don't need. This will bring your cost per use down, and you'll look and feel better every time you wear them.

I always feel like hes about to start playing the piano
hahahhahhah i thought so too
Lol, almost like after heâs done with his video just playing himself out đ
Love it đđ
This had me laughing hard đ
Lol
This video was a game changer to me! I never knew how to dress, and it felt way too complicated for me. I can now say I've received a few compliments here and there regarding my clothing style. I'm now considered the guy that's always well dressed đ and honestly I only have the basics you described here!
This is probably one of the first basic casual wardrobe builder videos I've seen this year that doesn't include a blazer or sport coat, and that's very refreshing. The early 2010s was replete with fashion bloggers pushing the blazer as THE versatile coat for both formal and casual dress, and I'm glad to see that the fervor is dying down and more practical coats like bombers and field jackets are coming back.
I love blazers but I agree they arenât very casual these days
Blazers are for guys that are handsome. If you are an average guy wearing blazer, you will lookâŠnormal.
â @uropy In that case, I'm not sure I should keep my blazer! đ€Ł On the other hand, *Galatians 5: 22-23* goes well with any wardrobe.
@@uropy đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
I recently went shopping for a blazer/sport coat and found nothing either in my size or in colors that go with everything. Sportcoats seem like more of an accent piece like a bow tie or a scarf now.
Love the dark transitions between categories. Really pleasing to the eye.
Agreed
I love how Brock do an essential items video almost every year. I own all of these (more like at least 2 different styles of each item, lol). I would add "a smell good item (cologne/fragrance/ body spray)" as 15th essential and sun screen as 16th essential. Cheer to your style!
His videos are always edited so nice, but this one was especially well done! Really smooth transitions and subtle camera movement
I've watched a lot of fashion content creators over the last month, but you have by far the best style. Love the simple clean lines and mostly neutral colors. Great picks!
I love how well you distinguish between a sportier look to a more dressier look, just by swapping the top half. It really comes down to the fit of the jeans/chinos and the shoes. Nail that, and the rest falls into place. Good stuff, Brock!
Really great timing -thanks for the great video! looking to replace my bad wardrobe of too big clothes in the spring!
This video is amazing. I really get the sense that he wants to give us this knowledge and its actually really useful.
Concise and so easy to comprehend, many thanks Brock
I would also add some type of cologne to the list.
Super useful info, Brock. Thanks for the consistently great content.
I can tell you put a lot of effort in creating this video! Thank you so much!
I like your way of thinking. THANK YOU.
This channel is the natural progression of fashion content. CZcams just keeps getting better and more thoughtful in its advice. Also, good recommendation re the Margiela Replicas. I would also suggest Common Projects Achilles 1 Low as an alternative. Pricey, but the silhouette and leather quality are top notch.
The top coat looks nice
You hit a home run with that BR topcoat. At 5â5 itâs hard to find one that hits mid thigh outside of Peter Manning but Iâm not fond of the high stance on their version. Found a decent camel topcoat at BR Factory on sale. Shortened the sleeves and length and looks good.
Black jeans for me would also be essential for guys I have a few of them
Just found this channel and I'm really digging it. I live in western Washington, and here you pretty much need to dress like you're going camping 2/3rds of the year. It's helpful to to explore other options!
Getting the right watch size is such an underrated piece of advise
Loved the advices! Great taste.
Great list, Brock!
I love these kinds of videos
GREAT VIDEO
I just discovered your content and I'm hooked.
I'm looking to completely revamp my wardrobe and your videos are EXACTLY the style I'm going for THANK YOU.
Peace â
Thanks man.
I don't care for jeans or slim fit anything. But loose or relaxed fit chinos I find comfy while looking pretty good.
Also now I know the name of half these things that I had no clue what were called. Thanks for the additional vocab it will be helpful!
Modest man always upload amazing videos
Great video Brock!!
Amazing video!!
Very nice. I met the channel through this video and the tips where very useful! Thanks!
This is a quality video, Brock. That you for giving me something to contemplate.
I didn't make this video your thinking of the wrong guy
A must for me is a navy blazer.
Great video. Thank you đđđđ
Youâve helped me up my game and be confident in myself and my outfits. Thanks my man â€ïž
i hope you make a video for a typical tropical weather country wardrobe too
Thanks for this video! And thanks for all your content! I definitely went through a style journey these last two years and I wouldnât have started without your publication and videos. Iâm 5â3â and I thought that I just could never find any clothes to properly wear until you shared brands that catered to my height. Iâve gotten multiple compliments from my friends and family and it completely helped me in being confident in what I wear. Iâm now being ask for help in last nightâs Thanksgiving dinner. Iâm already sending some of your older material and then this video came up.
Keep doing what youâre doing and thank you!
Thatâs awesome. Glad to hear it!
Your lambskin leather jacket is incredible !
Great content thank you
i really like ur video ive learned so much to u thnk u very much dude
I love it.â€
Great vid as always!
Thanks!
Lov this video đ
Great recommendations , as always .!!
Glad you like them!
l think a white chino should also be included specially in the tropical countries. lt leaves a very soothing effect. lf possible it must be paired with a white shirt or T shirt.
Great video as always. I'll just add that, if you can't afford leather, a moleskin or faux suede jacket can go pretty far in the cooler spring/fall days.
i'm no fan of faux anything (it just means a polyester imitation), but would second moleskin. Very comfortable, durable, looks good, and much less pricey than (decent) suede or leather. The only problem is it's fairly hard, very few brands have it.
I should get a pair of GATs.
Looking sharp as a knife man. Great vid
This covers a lot of ground, but I feel like a nice sports coat is an essential wardrobe staple. You can wear them casually or dress them up. Worth buying the best you can afford because the nicer ones not only look better but they can be as comfortable as a sweater.
i really like your styles
Beckett Simononâs Weekender duffle is relatively cheap, well-designed, well-made, and really attractive. I use mine every day.
I might suggest two great watches the seiko cocktail timer line and the timex marlin are beautiful pieces at fairly good prices comparable to watch mentioned and can be dressed up or down. Good video! Like that it focuses on the basics for every man rather then stupid shit we donât need.
Hi Brock, love the video! I was hoping you would do a video on what masks to wear. I feel bad when wearing just a surgical mask doesn't match my outfit, but I don't know what I should be doing.
Do you really need a video tutorial on how to choose the right colour of mask?
good video, looking for more
Good info.
This mans voice is just so damn calming
Great video man
Appreciate it!
The best just the best
I love you from Algeria KEEP UP
Which brown sunglasses were those? They look very classy!
Great video! I'm inspired and will make a list. In some shots you look alot like Eddie Redmayne.
Iâd add a sport coat. I have two. One in camel hair (tan) and one cashmere (black). You can dress them up or down and they make the rest of my wardrobe a lot more versatile. Whatâs your opinion on those?
#1 tip workout at the gym for a year eat and sleep right build muscle and have a decent physique so that clothe fits and looks good on you, don't wanna be stuck in-between sizes were nothing fits good , really helps
Great advice Brock. I like your style! đ
Glad you liked it!
Very useful vid Brock!!
I would go vneck and never crewneck especially when you workout. Plus v neck allows for more options like being able to wear a sweater with a tie.
Good video
Every style is unique. We dont have to buy the exact clothes as brock gets. I personally get inspired by his looks but I choose another way when choosing styles
If you live in a cold place. What type of trousers do your recommend as wardrobe essential?
Two oxfords for a capsule/minimalist wardrobe. What color and brand would they be?
I like your style, I think I've finally found my fashion guru. Can you tell me the exact style of nudie jeans those mid wash jeans are? The link in the desc isn't the same jeans
Nice video
Awesome
I would advice:
Leather jacket in the most durable material available (I have calfskin and cowhide leather, which behave the best and are the best ones i can get in the market where i live, but horsehide and steerhide would be even better, avoid lambskin and goat)
Boots of full grain leather around 6 inches tall and products to shine them and take care of leather overall (Saddle soap, conditioners, dyes, waxes, oils, greases, et cetera) since they are the best for wear in rain and stuff, resolable and from the best leather available is best
Watch with a metal case and a sufficient strap (Sports: Nato, Dress: Leather, daily wear: metal, i wouldn't advice rubber since it can be allergenous)
A woolen topcoat seems the better option to me than any parka
For sneakers i think a design in a more classic fashion like Vans Old Skool or Eras or a pair of Chuck Taylors might be a great option for men of several distinct age groups and still look good.
An essential for me is a pair of dress shoes and a dress watch. Another one is a good couple of fragrances to be able to wear all year 'round (Agua Brava by Puig, Brut, an Adidas brand for summer, Jovan Musk for intermediate & cold weather, et cetera) and if you can spend more on that, a good couple of frags would be Bentley For Men EDT and Versace Pour Homme.
Greetings sir
Nice sunglasses. Where can one can buy.
Your hair look great today.
Thanks!
You're very through, thanx
Any chance to still get this wool topcoat today? (or sth in that exact style, dont care for the brand)
As someone with a medium haircut, plain black baseball cap. Life saver on a windy day, or when you just don't have time to make your hair.
Hey Brock, would you please recommend some affordable GATs(sub $100 range).
As a college student,i really cant afford a $300 sneaker.Some day I surely will.
And the belt? That should have been the 15! Good video :)
i have absolutely 0 interest in fashion, but your channel is amazing
Happy to hear that!
Love your cuff bracelet. Where can I get a similar one? And whatâs the width of that bracelet? (Iâve got 6.25inch wrist as well, might try that đ)
This one is from a local shop in northern Arizona (a Navajo craftsman). Try Miansai, John Hardy or any other modern jewelry brand for a similar look.
Hey Brock. You have any videos on do's and don'ts on apartment living?
I have an apartment tour video from my NYC place. Did you see that one?
@@BrockMcGoff i think I did. Good inspirational video with nice aesthetics.
What's the leather jacket @ 5:45. I have a hard time finding one with cuffs n the bottom like that.
You still look so fit, and I love it! It really makes everything look that much better on you.
Which Patagonia jacket was that?
Also, really surprised to not see at least 1 flannel shirt as a casual button up and layering piece.
@@MartinThePanda ew, so rude
Have you find the patagonia model?
Funny I have pretty much all types listed except the light jacket. I have several cardigans though.
Canât see needing a big duffel bag for a weekend đ”âđ«
Subscribed to your channel.
Thank you!
Whatâs your opinion on Ray-Ban sunglasses? Is the quality worth the sticker shocking high price, are they a worthy investment?
What are your sunglasses called?
Whatâs the leather jacket you have on at 5:15?
Great choices, Brock. If you donât mind me asking, what is the style of those mid-blue nudie jeans? Been looking for a high quality pair of jeans in that colour
Thanks, Logan! There's a link to this specific pair in the description, but they're skinny/tapered medium wash jeans with light distressing.
@@BrockMcGoff cool, thanks Brock!
Nice video , Would like to ask you Which advice can you give to style a T shirt with some printings or logos , lets say like addidas , nike , GAP and so forth . Lets say One has a brown t shirt with some logo I use to match it with a beige denim jacket and brown chinos and beige penny or tassel loafers , well this outfit could also work with blue colors but what I try is to keep all colors ( denim jacket , pant and t shirt ) in the same pattern blue , beige, grey Would like to hear some advice
So youâre into monochromatic looks it seems? As long as all the colors within the outfit complement each other and donât clash, you should be fine. That being said, not every outfit has to be all within the same color family. If youâre set on sticking only with monochromatic outfits, make sure there is some differences in textures. This will give the fits more dimension as too much of the same color and texture can end up looking flat. Also, if youâre into wearing loafers, you should probably invest in some more low key t shirts, as athletic wear (adidas, Nike) isnât always going to mesh well with that type of style. The most important thing is to be yourself and carry yourself with confidence though. If you do those two things, you can basically pull off whatever you want.
Any advice for short guys đ
What sunglasses are those?
Would you suggest me any high heel shoes shop in uk for short guy
I love the Patagonia parka and have been having a hard time finding one that isn't too bulky. Im a smaller guy and bulky jackets make me look even smaller. Which one is the one that you have?
I think you'll like this post (includes a review of that parka) - www.themodestman.com/parkas-for-short-men/
i really like the olive color field jacket you had on, where can i get one or what brand is it?
It's from Peter Manning NYC
I wish I had the kind of life where I can dress decently. Unfortunately, my work has a uniform and I've no social life within my town. All of my friends live in other states and I'm lucky if I get to see them once a month.
Jeez, that's rough man. Hope it gets better soon (or already did)!
Dress well for you man, not for other people
the modest manâ€ïž
i still cant seem to bring myself to do white sneakers. I have a brown and black pair for now. Maybe one day.
You should try them. Incredibly versatile, my style game improved immediately when I got them
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 I actually did finally decide to try them. Just got them this week actually. Love them.
