I have a different theory. So I think that although in the book, Willy Wonka actually told Charlie it was a test to see who would win the factory, it was actually a trap. Willy Wonka didn't want to EAT the kids, but rather get them hurt or dead to show his competeters how dangerous the factory was. However, Charlie found the ticket 1 DAY before the tour. This means Wonka didn't know much about what would get him hurt or killed. This is supported when he implies at the beginning that he thinks Charlies ticket is a fake, when really, he was nervous about Charlie and tried to hide it.

There should be a distinction made, that the factory is not a carefully constructed death-trap for children, but a carefully constructed death-trap for (bad) children. Even though Charlie broke the rules and even stole from the factory, (but showing remorse, returned the stolen Gobstopper), Wonka knew that Charlie was in essence a good and virtuous child, and duly rewarded him, having known it all along.

Personally, I believe that Wonka isn't a murderer as in one of the films, I remember seeing the other children despite the obvious bad state that they were in. You do realize that Wonka assures Charley at the end that all the other kids will be fine and in the book they are actually seen leaving, though somewhat worse for wear.
We must also consider that "Slugworth" was in exactly the right place at exactly the right time and Wonka knew Charley would win. This indicates he not only knew who got the tickets beforehand, but had a fair idea of what would make them fail. And is it really psychotic behavior to not be overly concerned about apparent danger when you know that it will all be fine and maybe the kid will learn something in the process?

so my music teacher actually scared some of the popular kids in my grade with some of his theories that at the end of the first movie, the elevator goes up and never comes down. basically he was saying willy wonka could actually me god or the devil or maybe both. like the room with all edibles was the garden of eden from the bible. bc u can eat anything in there except the fountain. which in the bible, god said u can eat all fruits but from that tree. and the kids who were in my friend group were so intrigued while the rest were absolutely terrified. another thing my teacher noticed was the signing of the paper in case something happened to the kids willy wonka wouldnt be responsible. he said that sounded a lot like them signing a deal with the devil and the whole idea of that was just off putting for him. he also described that a lot of wonkas methods to fix the kids sounded like medieval torture methods. which tbh the way wonka described them, he sounds pretty accurate with his guess. this is just what my teacher thinks though so there is a possibility it can be wrong!

I have a theory on top of this Theory. it is perhaps that since every kid except for Charlie Bucket was televised about finding the golden ticket, but not Charlie Bucket it is possible to theorize that Willy Wonka researched all for kids before letting them enter his Factory therefore having tricks and traps for those children in particular that he knew they would quickly fall for but since Charlie Bucket wasn't televised he didn't have an endgame for Charlie except to try and kick him out. But then when he gives him the Gobstopper and they go into the elevator made of glass it's possible that Willy Wonka wanted a death wish to kill himself with Charlie.

It's commonly said that Roald Dahl absolutely loathed the Gene Wilder film version, but I've read that in fact, Dahl only hated the musical numbers -- particularly the Oompa-Loompa songs. But he was thrilled by the set designs, and supposedly thought that the screenplay improved on his book in a couple of subtle, important ways.
(For instance, making Charlie's mom a widow -- both his parents were alive in the book -- added a poignant "boy's search for a surrogate father-figure" element to the story. Also Charlie's decision to give the Everlasting Gobstopper back to Wonka -- "So shines a good deed in a weary world" -- was a creation of the screenwriters, not Dahl.)

I imagine the boat not having enough seats was an oversight, because they didn’t need to make a seat for someone they knew wouldn’t be in that scene, but they didn’t think of the implications, but it was so perfectly subtle that people created the idea that it was planned.

The Johnny Depp Wonka was a terrible terrible villain because of the way he treated people when he was leading them around his factory. He was not a good host at all, and said a lot of inappropriate things.

I never took it so literally, rather having the factory as a representation of chance, circumstance and the world coming back around to punish those who live immorally, refuse to grow up and take what's not theirs without hesitation. Wonka himself is according to this interpretation just an avatar of the chaos, capriciousness and cruelty innate to the world, no more evil than fire, but just as dangerous.

Well, Wonka must've had many times someone went into the river, so he wasn't phased by it due to seeing it so many times. He also could've watched the news, due to it telling the names of the Golden Ticket Winners. He could've used the news to make up a song about him, he could've also guessed he was a glutton, due to him eating so much chocolate a day.
Like last time, He knew Violet would've grabbed the gum without asking. It's a contest after all to get the factory. He knew the Oompa Loompas can do the same thing without popping her, they've done it to every other Oompa Loompa. Of course he would have a song ready for her because he knew how much she loved gum.
Wonka didn't know if he could've sent a human through the TV. It's used to shrink chocolate so people can taste his chocolate for free and buy more. Greed would've obviously been the song because he was greedy to be in Television.
Veruca wanted a golden goose. Thus making the spoiled song. She couldn't get that goose and started throwing a tantrum, making her not fit for the factory. If you would let someone own the biggest factory selling chocolate you wouldn't want it to be someone irresponsible. Of course, Wonka knew Oompa Loompas would be down there, they had to watch the fire so the place doesn't burn down, the fire starts to go out, ETC.
Charlie most likely didn't ever have Soda. So his Grandpa went to give Charlie a taste. The fan could be for popping bubbles if they exit the factory. Wonka gets mad because they disobeyed a rule, using one of his inventions. He didn't want his inventions tested and that explains the Gobstoppers and other candies.

If this is true, Willy Wonka is like a more colorful incarnation of H.H Holmes. For those who don’t know, Holmes was America’s first serial killer in the late 1800’s. He built a building in Chicago, later on called the murder castle, which had many rooms and chambers designed to trap people (which sounds a lot like Wonka’s factory). Holmes was a former doctor and was obsessed with killing and dissecting humans. Look him up online for more information.

Whenever he says he didn’t eat him cause he didn’t look appetizing maybe wonka didn’t eat him cause he wanted to sell the factory to Charlie and not to the other kids cause they would end up paying the fines that he couldn’t but since Charlie was poor he couldn’t, and he didn’t want to give it to someone who could eventually own the place because then he’d be giving his work to someone else, Charlie couldn’t pay so he wouldn’t last as the owner ... this is my theory of why he gave it to Charlie (watched flim theory to come up with this)

Also, in the book, the geese are replaced by squirrels which tap verrucsas head, declare her a "bad nut" and throw her in an incinerator. These squirrels were clearly too smart to confuse a person with a fucking walnut, since they seemingly morally assessed verruca just by tapping her head, so it seems like they were trained to not only break nuts open, but throw "bad" children into a literal furnace.

  • @RogueTwo
    @RogueTwo Před 3 měsíci

I would say that Augustus is at the very least, gray. He doesn't get warned until after he's already drinking from the Chocolate River. Before then, when the kids enter the candy room, Wonka encourages all the children and their parents to eat to their heart's content, explaining that EVERYTHING in the room is editable. Sure, after being warned, Augustus still takes one more gulp from the river before he falls in, which is why I'll say gray, because he technically DID disobey. But it's not like Wonka warned them all going in that the Chocolate in the river can't be touch by human hands, and that there was a possibility of being sucked into the pumps, so it DOES seem very much like entrapment.
Also, pretty crappy for a Chocolate maker to promise the kids a lifetime supply of candy, then scold them for being greedy and gluttonous. Kind of like a drug dealer lecturing his customers about addiction.

Maybe just overthinking it? Many fairy tales for children were pretty grim when you think about it. My thinking has always been that it was a children's cautionary tale about bad behavior such as greed, narcissism, gluttony, etc. And maybe Wonka was himself about personality defects resulting from isolation.
And were the various vehicles "right sized" because Wonka had some predetermined sinister plan to off the kids or just because the production department constructed the vehicles for the cast members they would carry at that point in the story?

In the ORIGINAL British edition of the book, the Oompa-Loompas were described -- and illustrated -- as African pygmies with nappy hair, full lips, and skin such a dark shade of brown that one of the kids thinks they're chocolate statues magically brought to life by Wonka!
Needless to say, the concept of UNPAID black Africans happy to be removed from Loompaland and work in the White Man's factory turned out to be controversial -- for the American edition, and subsequent British editions, the "negro" Oompa-Loompas basically became three-foot-tall California surfer dudes, with tanned skin, blue eyes, and blond hair. (There was still a weird Benevolent Colonialist vibe, but without the racial angle.)
