- Here's one of the videos where the sounds of a WDP4 are heard after getting coupled to its rake , listen to the V16 engine sounds after coupling is finished !!! Epic sounds by the dippy4.Why do the LPs notch up like that after getting coupled to a formation? I have seen this everywhere.
This notch-up is not done by the LP. When the isolation switch is in the 'ISOLATE' position (as in this case), the loco will not respond to the throttle control. Instead it is controlled by the ECU. By default it is maintained at idle. But during some scenarios (air compressor operation / low engine temperature / turbo cool down cycle ) the ECU increases the engine speed automatically to compensate. Sorry to bump into an old comment.
