Engine Cranking of Yellow EMD GT46MAC / WDG4 12011

This completes my EMD engine-cranking video collection! :D
Got to see the engine start-up of the made-in-Canada EMD GT46MAC 12011, still in its original livery which it got in 1998. Enjoy the awesome sound of 4000 horses being woken up in the middle of the forests of the Western Ghats. :)

Turbines for locomotives were used only in the 60s. This loco has a 2-stroke V16 diesel engine.

Cab view is not much of an issue even though they block the view partially. If this is considered problematic, then so should the cab view for ALCO-based locos as well.
The hooded roof increases surface area for heat dissipation. The space below it is not empty, it houses two radiator fans.

Yes, because a generator is essentially a big engine. Obviously not as big as this, but there are many generators that are just huge, and need the same procedure as a loco for start-up.

Its nothing but a process of starting a generator.If u ever have cranked a cummins generator it sounds the same which we do regularly.Correct me If I m wrong.

What is meaning of yellow light in front of locomotive

It is a flasher which is used for emergencies or for certain other specific circumstances. It indicates to another train or railwayman in front of it at a distance that something is not right and in case there's an oncoming train, that train has to slow down or come to a halt. In circumstances like this video, it may denote lack of air pressure since the engine is just being started up.
