The best cover version of this song ever. Not just Bryan's singing, but the whole act - gestures, face expressions, whistling... The guitar solo deserves appreciation on its own. A true masterpiece.

Estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo!. Es mas.! Me tomaría la licencia para decir que es mejor que la versión original! Saludos desde Buenos Aires!
@@adriangabrielzancada1173 it's much better than the original in my opinion. Although I respect original version too (and without it there would't be this wonderful masterpiece), but anything musical touched by Bryan Ferry kinda turns into gold, such a smooth operator he is. 😍

One of the few occasions when the cover version is better than the original.
I totally agree with you Paul - generally cover versions don't tend to be better, but this is one instance when it was.

Dear God, I can't imagine if I was born later and missed the 80's and 90's. I will leave this world with the best two decades just in time. I feel so sorry for the younger generation that they didn't experience life before this artificial crap of today.

An absolute masterpiece written by the best
There is no better tribute to John Lennon than this. This cover is simply a masterpiece.
Today's music can not stand up to this Gold
Bryan captures the essence of this song, the heartbreaking bitter sweet feelings of regret and lost love, so beautiful, always loved it

Yes, definitely agree about Bryan capturing it!!
Einfach nur Gänsehaut .
Agree !!!!!!
It is a cover. And for me one of the few times the cover is better than the original!
much better
This was A TRIBUTE to John.
Possibly the greatest Lennon tribute ever
Musician for over 40 years and this is the only song (Brian Ferry version) that brings me too tears.... Roxy gave this song a soul. 😭
It had plenty of soul when Lennon did tHe origional!
Um, I couldn’t agree more that this is a tremendous tribute, and arguably one of the all time greatest covers ever made by anybody… but to imply that the original had no soul is just complete and utter nonsense. The original was literally a man baring his soul. This cover takes the music to another level, yes… but believe me the soul was already there.
The hair style, the crying of the sax, the suits, everything in this piece of art made it so classy.
That is what happens when You go to Art College !

Ferry is sublime. He even makes whistling sound cool.
Yeah, normally I hate when people whistle in a song, but Bryan gets a pass. It works beautifully here.
This absolute masterpiece of a song actually got 4 incredible individual solos... guitar solo 1:50 which transforms into a saxophone solo 2:14, whistling solo 3:26 which transforms into a synth solo 3:50.. with whistling. Stunning.
u are correct sir never thought of it that way
Only they cut it short, really love the whistling till the very end.

This song saved my life many years ago. The saxophone solo in particular felt like a hug to me, Bryan Ferry's voice took me by the hand with its intense sense of understanding and I found the courage and strength to escape from years of humiliation, isolation and violence. Even today, after many, many years, the feeling is still the same. Thank you Brian Ferry for this wonderful gift. And for all other wonderful songs.💝🙏

Brian has such a unique voice.
Such a beautiful song, Roxy as always produces a unique sound to a classic. Will always love Roxy Music
I love the original but i keep coming back to this one, you just can't beat that synth/whistling solo
One of the greatest "covers" of all time. Remember when this came out just a few months after the terrible murder of John Lennon. As some one else said , he would have been proud. The pathos, orchestration etc in this by Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music is simply beautiful. "Jealous Guy" what a song. The fade out whistling etc is beautiful.
This version was released 5 years after john lennons death not a few months
@@yaboyj2191 The original that I am referencing , that is Ferry's world wide hit was released in 1981, months after John Lennon's murder.
Couldn't have put it better
Many "covers" are awesome. Sailing covered by Rod Steward.
Without You covered by Nilsson and Mariah Carey.
With a Little Help from My Friends covered by Joe Cocker. Always on My Mind covered by Elvis Presley and the Pet Shop Boys. Small selection... The original is often almost unknown.
@@yaboyj2191 ... he's right, ya b.
The synth intro is so melancholic. One of their best songs, i have to add Avalon with the haunting female vocals is stunning as well.
one of my main criticism is that the synth intro should have been longer. it is soo good..
There’s a great story behind those female vocals on Avalon. It was a total last minute thing, not planned at all.
I'm sooo jealous Bryan can whistle like that!!! I'M JUST A JEALOUS GUY!!! Bob
For me I have to say this is a time when a remake is better than the original. There is so much feeling in this version and it really tugs on your heart strings.
Well the thing with Lennon's version was like many of his songs it was written for Yoko he loved her so much and people did not want to accept that and resented his leaving the Beatles with Brian it just does feel as personal.
@@annalisavajda252 H Anna . Just seen your comment and thanks for response. I appreciate your view and my comment is purely how I feel when listening to both versions.I was reluctant to post my comment as I truly admire John Lennon but had to be honest with my feelings.Kind regards.
I agree Catherine , Its an amazing version, pure raw emotion .
Unachtsamkeit, aber auch achten alles was da kraucht in der Luft
You're entitled to your opinion. But you're wrong. This cover brings out the sonic drama of the composition but lennons original is easily superior.

Through the course of our lives, every one of us hears an inordinate number of songs. There are those we've forgotten about, those that were mediocre to say the least. those we thought were OK, those we thought were great, and those we thought were nothing short of amazing. And once in a while there's a track we will never ever forget because it/was FAR beyond that last category of "nothing short of amazing". I'm way more than halfway through my life (I won't make it to 102, that's without question!) and amongst the handful of tracks from my 51 years on earth I can place in that "elite" category proudly stands this sheer stunner....
Shivers down the spine (no, through the whole body) from start to finish? Too damn right....
Lee I like your comment, can I recommend a song to you I think you may not have heard and I reckon you will place It in the elite category
Yes YES Lee, but are you sure ?

I agree, Melanie, these boys don't know the meaning. It's not just the clothes, represent what you are as a man who regards his lady as special as she is. Make her proud to have you.

The recording quality of this song, and indeed a lot of Roxy Music's work, is stunning.
Well said, I've ALWAYS thought that. Great musicians, and recording that did them credit.
During the early, or ‘experimental’ half of their career, much of that could be attributed to Chris Thomas, who produced most of their early albums. One of the all time greatest producers.
Sometimes I like the original and Bryan's covers equally. This is one. I can imagine Bryan singing that to me.

I was lucky enough to see Brian Ferry at a very small live concert in Germany, I’d say less than 1,000 people, with giant earthen owls eminating a scented smoke that, by it’s sweet odor, reminded me of something we used to “fly away” from our daily worries... It was a magic concert... stage catwalking straight into the crowd, Brian close enough to touch him, vibrating with a magical charisma that one would be unable to find these days in any of the so-called “stars”... That concert was pure magic, and I thank the lord on my knees that I was at the right place at the right time back then. My one man web design company that propelled me from the bottom to the top here in Thailand innthe late 90s was called Avalon, that should say it all. I love Roxy Music and Brian Ferry to bits. It was a magic time (80s and 90s)... A time that one can only dream of nowadays, where a socialist elite tries to strangle us all to death. My strength to overcome all this is the music of the 80s and 90s. Love to all you Roxy Music fans out there. ❤️☀️🇹🇭🏖🌴🥥🐘🌈

@@nigeldevlin2786I try to be optimistic, and keep hoping that we’re just going through a big lull, and there will be a big musical renaissance soon, but that hope fades with each passing year. It seems like ever since the millennium clicked over, things have just been utterly stagnant. A few promising blips surface every now and again, but overall it’s basically been a pop culture wasteland ever since the late 90’s.
Man Ferry nails the shit out of it, especially the whistle solo. Not to mention Manzanera and Mckay putting out a serious 80s vibe. What a bunch of real 80s men about town, not to mention their earlier gems. You dont pull off class like this unless you were in a shooting war with Bowie in the 70s and the rooskies

The best cover song ever, just wonderful.
Great song, but want to say a word for the video direction as it's as exquisite as the song itself. The slow panning, the mirrored image at the start, the cut from a close-up to an even closer up, the focus on a single band member at one time and the way the camera lingers on the sax player after his part. And Bryan Ferry looking, as he does, both deranged and yet unquestionably cool, in his pastille linen suit with eyes that could seduce millions into bed, whilst simultaneously snarling to the camera and singing about being a bit of a bastard. Utter utter utter brilliance.
