Amazing!!! Bless!! ❤
So you have really great taste in music, hope you enjoy this song for another 20 years!
It was a rainy day in October 1993. My gf and I hit the road from Bremen to Amsterdam listening Avalon album. Uncertainties and tension of being ex Yugoslavian war refugees mixed with a beauty of lovely moments between us collided with sounds coming from my old car’s speakers. In retrospective your hard days somehow became the most memorable hours of your life. It’s 2024, I live in California, my ex gf is somewhere in Croatia and I am still listening to this album. Love to all of you.
Dude, that's awesome, thank you for sharing just a glimpse of your life. I can only imagine growing up in that environment. I grew up in Galway, NY in the US. Snowmobiles, chopping wood, shoveling snow in the winters, dirt bikes, allot of Jack Danials, Southern Comfort, and malt liquor beer in the summer. My hat's off to you. The strong survive.

When I feel some Roxy Music, this is the first one I play. I was 22 when this song came out; at 64, this and the whole Roxy Music catalog still moves me. Especially the entire album "Avalon". Damned classic! ❤️ Who's listening to Roxy Music in 2024?
The way it sweeps, swoons, hits highs, lows and flows, Ferry's vocals are like another instrument in its own right. National treasure.
Roxy Music will always be one of the best bast!
It was at the beginning of electronic manipulation of real artists. Yes he sound neat and kind, his swaying "dance" moves are sweet. Nice. Has anyone ventured a live cover? 😊
National treasure for who? I may be a stupid 32 year old that played vice city when it first came out, but I thought Ferry was British? If that is the case, the now late Queen should've knighted him if she hadn't already.
Should be knighted.
Absolutely.
He and Roxy spawned two full music genres.

I'm 55 years old-the 80s were the best time-I miss this carefree time-thank you that I was allowed to be there
Wonderful times (and yet stressful times) the 80s. "Carefree" = "San Souci" (in English, we have a joke translation of sansouci = "Woebegone" - "woe/worry is gone"). From my Croatian ancestry = "bez briga". I wonder if my children with have that sense of "woe be gone". We had that existential threat of nuclear war in the 80s, and while this time feels less fatal there is some new danger that plagues us. Thank you, Herr Grabenhorst, for mentioning that wonderful idea of being carefree / san souci / bez briga.
Me too. 1965 vintage.

My God, there was no decade like the 80s. The optimism, the sufficient technologies, the attention to your fellow human being, the relaxed attitudes, the fun without the vanity the internet & social media has created. Every summer felt like an eternity of joy. It was just bloody fantastic!
Lovely comment, so true
"The optimism." Ha, that's a good one. When Reagan asked "What's going on in South Africa?" One of his cabinet members said, "They're doing well. Botha is a nice, decent guy."
Not sure what 80’s you lived through but it was also the rise of Reaganomics and the Cold War.

51 years old. Roxy has risen to my top 5 of all time bands. I always liked Roxy, even as a kid, but you appreciate this music even more, as time goes on. It's like Mozart, totally timeless music that will never die. People will be listening to Bryan Ferry's voice for centuries and attempt to copy that voice, but only in vain. I hope that the younger generations appreciate the greatest decade of music that ever was.
"Absolutely, age seems to deepen the appreciation for timeless music, doesn't it? Roxy Music holds a special place in my heart too, and Bryan Ferry's voice is indeed unparalleled. It's like a fine wine that only gets better with time. The music of Roxy and artists like them transcends generations, much like Mozart's compositions. Bryan Ferry's voice, a true gem, will undoubtedly echo through the ages. Here's to hoping that younger generations discover and cherish the magic of the greatest musical era. Cheers to the enduring legacy of Roxy Music and the timeless beauty of their sound!"

What is it about this song that I keep having to return to? It wasn't part of my youth and neither was Roxy Music. One of those songs that transcends time and one's own life.
I don't know what it is but I can't shake the same feeling.
+Kim Wall For me, it's the outro. It's just so smooth and you get caught up in the guitar solo and synth..
Roxy Music wasn't part of my youth either (unless you count GTA: Vice City which came out when I was a teen, and where I first heard this song, or "Let's Stick Together" which I'd heard lots of times, but never knew the artist) but I've been listening to "Avalon" a fair bit lately -- it's a good album full of slow, adult rock and you're right, it's a song that transcends time and life.

Not a song, An anthem for the ages and is timeless. They will still be playing this Masterpiece 1,000+ years from now and still be perplexed how great it is without really knowing why? No one can say why hearing the opening salvo brings so much joy to our hearts and minds. Don't get me started on the drummer and his cymbal splashes and mixed rim shots and tom tom rolls and a session drummer at that who has played with all the greats and it shows in his performance on this anthem, not over powering but as steady as a Swiss watch throwing in subtle percussive surprises and twists and turns and treats to our ears. Bravo Andy Newmark! You leave me panting for more and besides Bryan you are largely responsible for one of the greatest anthems in rock history and wish it would never end. More Than This? Nothing is more than this anthem and thank you for putting lives in perspective and every morning when you get out of bed and your feet touch the floor say "bonus" as that's what it is.
This is one of the greatest pop songs of all-time. Haunting, poignant and timeless.

Love this song. I also have tears!! Makes me feel young, romantic, emotional etc. Whatever happened to romance?? Such a beautiful thing. Veronica Aiken.
I have the same feelings, although I am younger and heard this song for the first time quite later in the series "The Americans".
Bryan Ferry never got the recognition he so richly deserved for his amazing voice. His sexy smooth vocal's are what would be considered Ethereal Dream-pop in today's genra labeling. Since Retro New-wave is back stronger than ever, many people of this generation are rediscovering little gems, like this one. These lyrics are simply genius, but Bryan's voice flows, in and out like ocean waves, a gently rising and falling of sea swells, just as a Summer sky has passing clouds in ever-change form and then they drift away beyond, disappearing into the Eastern horizon.
I couldn't be happier for rediscovering this song.
Geniale il tuo commento, tutto vero!! Grazie 🌷

Omg, I love his voice, the music and songs, I saw him in concert, he was sooo sexy, but this video looks comic and funny to me, right now!
What on Earth are you talking about??? Bryan Ferry *_TOTALLY_* got the recognition he deserved. What planet are you living on??? He was HUGE; I mean ... this song by Roxy Music contains mostly him in the video. Why do you think that is? He has been praised by all and sundry and has a bloody CBE FFS!
The words of this record hit hard? ...MORE THAN THIS? ..He is talking about true love where you dive in head over heals and forget the real world! I have been there maybe the same as a few of you? Some say this is infatuation to a partner? But how do we define love to reality? If you ever actually feel this very special level of love then you will understand that it is something very different to the normality of this world! Indeed you might cus and disagree? But despite your marriage, were you ever TRULY in love 'at this level'? Food for thought, guys!
I remember writing this song for a vaudeville show in India back in 1927. I was 107 years old. It has stood the test of time.. My work on earth is done
Thank you
It's not just Ferry's voice it's the whole package in this song.
But particularly the melodic tone of Phil Manzaneras 🎸
The outro in and of itself is heartbreakingly beautiful and good

This song and Avalon. Once you hear the first few seconds of them, anyone who was alive in the 80's is taken back. Powerful stuff.
Avalon is definitely in my top ten albums of all time. Every track is superb.
I still tune in all the time . I’m surprised more listeners don’t comment. Such great music. I download and play often . So I don’t go to sites often . But yes in 2024 I do come back . More than This . Love the guitar !
I'm not the kind of person who lives in the past. I don't want to go back in time. My teenage years were in the height of the 80s (I'm 52). But this world needs "more of this". And I feel that Gen Z is bringing back all of these beautiful songs of the 80s as a way to cope with the harshness of the world they are experiencing. Music has the power to heal a troubled mind.
2022 still sounds Great even after all these years.
Can't beat Roxy Music Timeless classic, who's with me !!!!

Roxy Music - More Than This - PRECISA MAIS QUE ISSO??? ANOS 80 E 90 FORAM OS MELHORES PARA A MUSICA MUNDIAL!!!
