Coffee, CT, and church...perfect Sunday morning.
Thank you! Have an amazing day my friend! =)
That chain hoist thing is great for your shop.
Yes, I found it used on FB for $100 - it's freaking awesome!
So glad to see the bug again!!! Can’t wait to see this one roll down the road!!!
Me too! Thanks buddy!
I've been following it since the beginning, congratulations on the project...from Brazil
Glad you're back on the Bug! She's coming along nicely. You've made great progress since the beginning CT.
I would have repaired the pinhole areas since you have it torn down so far. But hey, it's your build 😁👍🏻 Nice to see you back on your channel again CT Looking forward to the next one.
I really enjoy this beetle restoration series.
Thanks man! 😎😎😎
Crazy idea: A neon-light in the beetle, when it runs!! You can see everything in the beetle, and everyone can see you!!!!
I love your fluorescent strip "dome light". That's genius during the interior repairs! The car is coming along well CT! You'll dig the rotator / rotisserie for the 914. Looking forward to all the projects moving forward.
Thanks Greg! I will be giving you some shout outs soon brother! =)
@@CTmoog I was just thinking the same about you! We used to talk about other channels and projects all the time in our videos... It was much more "social" back in the day... I am going to try to bring that back.
I came across your videos restoring your 65 VW Beetle. I worked at a VW dealership body shop straight out of high school in 1972 for eight years. The Beetle is the easiest car to work on and repair than any other car out there in my opinion. Although the rocker boxes are always a pain to work on the rest of the car is a piece of cake relatively speaking. I did full collision work for 15 years, a very rewarding experience returning a car to, in some cases, better than new.
Watching the work you are doing tells me you are very knowledgeable in body repair. Welding, prepping for panel replacement etc. But one item of note I observed is a painter you are not. Watching you spray on primer is a haphazard way of applying paint of any type, primer lacquer, enamel, urethane no matter what you’re spraying it on.
No matter what you’re spraying on you always spray in straight passes or strokes then return back spraying above or below the prior pass at a 50% overlap. Spraying the primer as you did does not leave a uniform coat whether wet or dry and gives no guarantee the part you’re painting is even covered enough. But I will say spraying primer on that way is one thing but definitely not the way to spray your color top coat on the outside. Spraying as I noted is a must if you want a beautiful final finish. I’m not writing to criticize your work by any means but to offer the standard and established method of spray painting whether from a spray gun or spray can.
You are correct, what you’re doing is a lot of work and beats you up, at least when we get older. I restored a 66 Mustang ground up as you are doing with your VW Beetle that took me a full year starting back in the summer of 1980. So I understand where you are coming from and truly appreciate what you are doing and applaud you for it. I’m sure your efforts will look beautiful when finished. I would hate to see you with problems after because of the painting application method used. Otherwise keep up the great work! I’m enjoying watch the progress you’re making.
Spray on Lizard skin sound deadening. Great stuff.
I wouldn’t have given you a nickel for that car in the beginning. But my beginnings in the VW world started back in the seventies when we didn’t need that extensive rust repair. You are doing a great job!
Later cars like my 73 used foam. Had a lot of rust repair from it. Would like to also know alternative to the foam
Hello, my name is José, I'm from Portugal, I've been following all the episodes carefully and I'm eagerly awaiting the completion of this project.🥸
How is Portugal, it must be a nice place . I'm from California and have a 1961 VW that I am fixing up to
Portugal is a pleasant country located in the west of the European continent. In my opinion, it is an excellent country to be visited by tourists from all over the world. If you use advertising sites about Portugal you will get their opinion
Yes definitely when you seal mix up concoction of washing up liquid and keep your finger wet you can use tool but also must be wet put a little in a spray bottle and spray don’t get wet we’re you haven’t sealed we do this all the time in the uk you will be surprised at the results
Er, just one question: instead of this abundant use of seam sealer on those pinholes, how about putting on pieces of fiberglass tissue? You can stick them onto the metal with an epoxy resin that comes with the fiberglass. Once put there, this fiberglass stuff stays there forever.
All the best & good luck.
Yes, fiberglass works too! good idea! =)
Hey brother, don’t spray foam in the rear area, it’ll hold moisture and cause rust like the factory’s did.
I used the same seam sealer, works great!
The 914 will be fun to watch!!
Thanks Slade! I always appreciate your wisdom my friend! =)
@@CTmoog you’re welcome my friend. What you can do, as an alternative. If you have any leftover headliner material? It breaths, And any type of fabric store, for that nylon pillow stuffing. I forget what it’s called. And just stitch up little pillows and shove them up in there. They don’t have to be neat.
Might sound crazy. But it will work and keep it from rusting my friend.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
Good to see the bug again. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
The " little rat " looks really good CT !
There's a trick . It works also with silicone .
Dip your finger in a little bit "fairy" water and it slides better.
Have a great sunday my friend .
Nice! Another video of the Beetle. I'm looking forward to seeing it restored.
The beatle is going great CT
Thank you! =)
Keep up the good work.
The older VWs used crescent shaped PVC covered foam packs to seal that area each side in the engine bay below the rear window. With the later VWs they sprayed Polyurethane foam in that area instead. This was probably cheaper and better sound insulated but the, rigid foam held moisture and caused the panel behind the rear window to rust out.
To better distribute the body sealant with your finger, it makes sense to first dip your finger in a mixture of water and a little dishwashing detergent. This doesn't work for all sealants, but it works for most. It is worth to give it a try.
Thanks man!
Rusty misses you
I miss Rusty too! =)
You have reached a milestone with the beetle .
I'm sure some people use a 1" paintbrush to spread seam sealer.
But then I wasn't there and I wouldn't know how workable the stuff was .
Hey CT one trick i use with silicone is to dip your finger in water and try to keep the finger clean before spreading.
All right! Back to the bug! I had great success at "fauxtina" using Rustoleum paint on rusty metal primer and a roller brush. Roll it on and let it dry a couple of days, then mist it with a few coats of Rustoleum spray paint like you've used here. Once dry, sand lightly. The bumpy primer under the paint will be revealed convincingly.
Nice project. Keep going
Been great to be here for the journey and I'm VERY excited to see the 914. I REALLY want a 914 so right now I'm living vicariously through you, my brutha!
That primer really holds out rust. Great for a car your not putting automotive paint on right away. If you do put automotive paint on there be sure to reprime with urethane primer. Let the primer really dry before you do that.
Thanks Mike! That is good info!
Another CT Sunday eating my omelette and drinking coffee. Yes, allot of work but will be well worth it when done and on the road. If you sell it you will see the benefits of your hard work pay off. Plus have money for more projects as im finding out now. When selling have to have patience and just leave it advertised till the right person comes along in some cases. I stick with my asking price and don't lower it. Just wait till the person who really wants it shows up. They will pay it with cash in hand.😊
Thanks Tim! That is great advice! =)
just a suggestion....before you put everything together....fish oil/linseed oil the crap out of it inside the rockers (using a long fine flexible hose) , engine bay and front....it will definitely stop rot returning....leaveit in the hot sun for a day or two so it soaks in nicely....keep up the great content....cheers from sydney australia
Looks great brother go man go.
Thanks Terry! 👍
Have you tried one of those spray triggers that attach to rattle cans? They work good, but not on the bigger spray cans.
No, I should get one. Sounds like a good idea.
I want this car when you are done !!!!!!
gettin' there!
=)
Looks great!
I’m not going to tell you what a great job you’re doing or give you a slap on the back. I started watching your channel over a year ago and remember how pissed I was when just as the body work was coming along you stopped and worked on the dodge truck. Why do I get the distinct feeling that history will repeat itself? Prove me wrong.
thanks for the motivation! =)
Good video!
Thanks buddy!
Seriously,
I want it!
I alwa6s use the brush able seam sealer for ares you don't see, then mask straight lines and use gunable stuff for the areas you can see. Keep onkeeping on
Good tip man! Thank you!
Saludos de Mexico CT
Wont a rattle can spray trigger save your finger and allow you to add smoother stokes? Asking for a friend.
If you wet your fingers before you spread the sealer; it smooths better.
Thanks for the tip!
Watching now! Nice hoist set up!
Thanks Straight Ahead ✌😎
Soapy water on your finger or just some spit on your finger will make it much easier with the sealant. Just a friendly tip 😊
Looking fantastic 👍👍👍
Thank you! 👍
Buy a bronze wire for the welding machine and weld it with rust holes on the non-power panels of the body. It has a low melting point, it does not deform the panels much, it is easy to clean it.
The hole in the engine compartment, I believe it would be a rubber grommet.
I've seen some guys lay down painter tape on each side of the seam to help lay down a clean line of seam sealer kinda like pin stripping it on.
That's a good idea. I will try that next time! =)
When doing the seam sealer I always keep a cup of thinner to dunk my finger in it helps smooth it out better.
Good.job. cool VW 😄👍👍👏👏👏😍
cool!
Thank you! =)
Finally!!
Man the beetle is coming along looking great! I can’t wait to see the next episode! I know you’re pretty swamped with projects! Like the Porsche 914! But is great watching all those too! I’ll be watching next time you post another one! Loving the series.👌😎👍
Go for it CT 🆒😎👍!
Thanks buddy! =)
I wonder if you seam sealed a small amount, then smother, the seal it would work better. Maybe sealing a large area at once might allow the sealer to begin to harden before you get to smoothing. I have no experience at all just wondering.
With that seam sealer, I think that should've you should've done little bits at time and then spread it out with your finger. It might have spread out better.
It looks like it dries and starts skinning fairly quickly.
It’s coming out good. It’s not $5.00 a can, but maybe some of the original color mixed into a spray can would be worthwhile for you. I’ve done it before to blend patina.
I would paint inside the wheel wells white to protect it against rusting.
And seal the pinholes in them as well.
Seam sealer works best when applied to BOTH sides of a seam, And no it's not a patch repair...
Hehe, this is what's called a "smear job" , literally with a finger.. 😁Anyway, you learned a lot and made so much progress it's admirable. Keep on, things are going to look bright if you carry on your knowledge forward. We're still waitin' for "rusty", but keep it one at a time. Cheers!
Seam sealer is important in parcel shelf and engine compartment area's to prevent fumes coming into car interior. Just brush on and smooth over with small paint brush.
inside the rear tire casings would have needed a new sheet metal, because they are full of pinholes.
You Did the whole car , I think you should make all lift pinhole pitches too , it is perfect restoration just gave it some more time it's body , the engine is brand new chassisy is perfect build only small pinhole pitches those left I think you can do it if you not run in rushing
Hi Ct
You should do a complete restoration on the vw. You will be glad you did.
That's the plan! =) Thank you
@@CTmoog
including a perfect paint job.
Nice work on this patina bug CT won’t now be long to meet body n pan
just found ur videos .
looking to do a chassis swap with one of these. i like the videos!
Hi CT, Nice progress you coming along one step at a time so go for the next step buddy It`s a great choice using Rustoleum I`ve used it for a long time now🇺🇸👍🏻🛠🍀 , Greetings Hubertus🙏🏻🇳🇴🇳🇱☮😊
Great job; remember you will need to install the headliner before the glass.
Put one of those 914 engines in there while you're at it.
that could happen! =)
You do not spray foam in the cavity after you put in the wire harness, you install the harness and leave it alone, it does not need to be sealed.
What is the plan for electrical wiring? Custom or expensive Beetle wiring?
Not a professional but if you use a bondo putting blade on the seam sealer you will get a better result
Also don’t let it skin over love the detail you are taking
When you going to finish swamp dragon
Next year hopefully!
How about Flexseal or gorilla spray next time?
I think you are supposed to strip that shipping paint completely. But I could be wrong. If so use paint stripper. That stuff vagabonders uses is good
Can someone please link "Mike's channel"? Thanks.

Great build, I've been following it from the start. I would love if you could give us a list of where you purchased all of your parts.. Also do you have any idea how much you have spent on this bug? Wonderful information. The bug and the engine builds invaluable Thanks
That's a great idea! I will pout a list together and share it in a future video. Thank you! =)
awesome video did you sell the swamp dragon
Thank you! No, we still have it. I'm thinking about working on it soon.
Where did you get the primer?
Dip your finger in a small container of water & washing up liquid when smoothing the sealer
Good idea! Thank you! =)
Nice see the beetle back. A brush woul give better result I guess.
OI E ME CHAMO DANTE VC SABE QUE EU FICO ADIMIRADO COM O SEU TRABALHO PROFICIONAL EU ACOMPANHO O SEU TRABALHO A MUITO TEMPO PARABENS
22:34 fly lands on Scotchbrite 😂
What do you have though for doors for the bug?
I have the doors. They look awesome!
Why did you not get some primer and rust prevention in a gallon and use your spray gun to apply evenly?????
I wish I would have now...it's a pain using the rattle cans...
Olá amigo, massa de calafetar se usa um pincel e não o dedo nem a espátula.
Why the rust primer on hood clean metal?
That seam sealer seems defective and dry. ive never seen any seam sealer lay in that dry thick consistency in all of my years in autobody, it should come out more creamy and you should be able to spread it with a brush
Man. A Ghia or a common bug? 🤔. I know which one I would prioritize.
What about the ghia?!
The Ghia is going to be awesome! =) Maybe after the 914
🤗👍👌💯
Thank you! =)
@@CTmoog really interesting video, thank You for sharing 💯❣️
🇦🇺👍
Thanks man!
You should have used brush on seam sealer. You waited too long to spread out what you put on the seams.
HEY! You forgot to fix the pinholes, CT!
How did you leave him rusty?
Very very bad🤌
Ct baby, you are doing great but how come you don't have any help..
Thank you! $$$
