i love the color
awesome ride mike
Beautiful......
nice job, my next one is a 55 oval cant wait to get started she is very rusty ;)
really the bugs are not that hard. the bottom half can be really rusty like that but still easily savable.
@@Mikefngarage this is true im on my 4th bus and cant wait to stop looking at large panels ;)
Nice work brother! That is a super sweet ride.
Thanks!
It looks great 👍👍
Thanks Mike for saving this VW ragtop
Fantastic job! Great video!
Thank you very much!
Love this Mike, reminds me of the ole Super 8 home movies of our fathers!!
yea it was kind of jumpy but got the point across. best I could do with the old footage.
Another fantastic job Mike, your talents proved once again ! Nice one...
Thanks again!
Just amazing!!!
Hope everyone appreciates the edit on this one took me several hours.
@@johndavid8363 thanks for that
Cool video
Mike Fn Garage editing skills are great, well done
NIce job! I know what ya mean. Just spent 6 hours on my latest vid...
yes thankyou. Your plate says arizona??? I thought you lived in sacramento?
I really like the color!! You do good work.👍👍👍🎩🎩🎩🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Wow Mike!! So many holes haha! Definitely can’t say you lack ambition, ability, work ethic or patience!! I’m so glad you restore to original as too many are getting butchered these days. Great job!!
Thanks 👍
Nice! Perfect save on a nice Mango Rag!
Great job Mike, reworking some ol, video with music. Maybe some of the new subscribers will enjoy it. Good luck. Still love your content.
Thanks 👍 plus I wanted to keep the new guys interested in the current project so seeing one done helps. Thanks Larry I know you will be around anyway because you always are. thanks for contributing.
Amazing every time I watch this
Really nice car. Thanks for a great channel.
Awesome! I was watching you when you were making this video a few years ago. Awesome work Mike!
thought it would be cool to show the whole build in one video so people could see the immediate transformation. However the footage was not very good for that so I had to make it a bit jumpy but I think many people will get the idea.
@@Mikefngarage we still got the overall picture from start to finish, your work is on point
Well done Mike. You keep saving them. Nice car. I would be proud to own it.
Thanks 👍
Nice job Mike. I know when I film my work. The editing is the hardest part lol. Car looks amazing. The colour is perfect
Thanks 👍 especially when the footage is TERRIBLE. lol. I should have used a camera stand back then
Hey man Kevin here from Australia. Great video thankyou for sharing. This was also a good series to watch great detail. I've often used it as reference for my own bug.
✌ Peace
Awsome Bug Mike, Happy 4th of July👍
Way to go Mike! Keep saving that precious Metal. E.
Great job on the bug but personally, I prefer narration as opposed to music. I had to mute it.
yea my narration for these types of videos does not work. but I do more of those type when I am explaining a repair.
Same here, I just keep turning the sound back on for a few seconds in case Mike is saying something.
I love your approach; so tired of the patina bug pan-scraper fad. You do great work and definitely know your VWs!
Thanks 👍
Well its not a miracle, it is a man's great skill ! thanks Mike great to watch !
Fabulous job Mike! You gave this the love and TLC it so badly needed
Thanks Straight Ahead ✌😎
Wonderful video...Thanks for posting Mike
Great job. Now i can imagine the end of the single cab restauration job.
Love it and all your videos. I wish I still had 67 bug i owned 3 over the years but the 67 was my favorite of the ones i owned. I really like that color. Happy 4th!!!
Bearclaw to Jeremiah:
Were it worth the trouble?
Jeremiah:
Wagh! What trouble?
Thank you.
I know you don't restore cars to sit in garages or on trailers , but to use and enjoy , this one is very close to the edge too good to drive! Nice job! 👍😎
Great save, turned out very nice.
Really enjoyed this and for sure you are the ideal VW guru on paint and body , did not strive for perfection on this restoration and I really appreciate that.
Thanks 👍
It looks mint to be honest
Amazing work! Pretty good edit. You created much more than a car.
Mike
I think u guys have done a great job this car looks so cool mow the rot on it was very bad just shows what can be Done really it shows nothing is impossible
Phil in the uk
Good call on the dash , I love OG dashes ....it came out just a tad more than " nice " , excellent work 👍
You took something that was basically scrap metal and brought it back to life, outstanding restoration, nice job
Well that pile of scrap metal is worth at least 6k where im from
Really nice job on the resto. Car looks absolutely beatutiful! Thanks for the editing too. Makes the whole piece look more professional.
Cool thanks I am finding a happy medium of editing time and quality. Not as good as some but doesn't take me so long to do that I I just cant do it.
It looks stunning... what are those funny things sticking out on the right hand side near the wheels? Never seen that before?
A great job well done.. it's great to see someone that not afraid to take on a restoration like that. And thank you for sharing
Restoration of this particular rust pile makes a VW Superhero
Ohhh those heater channels and those floor pans appear to be screaming in agony
Luv it!
My god that was like my 64. I didn’t think they rusted like that in Arizona. I also have a rust free original paint 66 from Arizona . One soft spot in the floor size of a dime and I’m leaving it.
this one came on a truck from Minnesota.
Your input is invaluable knowledge worth it's weight platinum love your sheet metal experience make short order of it on repairs and patches thank you so much appreciate your shares for the average diy'er...
Mike it has been hot as July here! Yesterday I was sandblasting the inside of the door and nearly got heat stroked. I need to stay in the shade. I got a gallon kit of epoxy primer to slow down the rust. I watched your video on reducers and Napa 3 days ago started to carry Urethane reducers in slow . Then they had a gallon of specialty reducer to clean the spray gun with for 20 bucks. I work on it till noon and get in the AC . You and Chris stay out of the sun. later!!!!!
yea pretty hot here but My garage is AC. so I can still do some work in there just not too much dust cuz it will wipe it out.
Brutal welding!
holding up perfectly fine.
I've always purchased a VW when possible - on this one if the engine does not run or needs to be removed for repair you can always put a lawn mower one in its place.
I love this build, a great car after lots of work. Well done and thanks for the video
Nice save on this Volks Mike. The color is so nice. Not doing the dash was right on!
I didn’t know about this one so good you made a new content out of old.
Endless energy. I dont know how you do it.
Great resurrection, I love it!
Mike that's a beautiful job on the bug I would be very proud to own it well done fantastic work as always.
I wonder does Klassic Fab only make components for buses Is that where you got the new skirts and engine cover?
My word, this machine was in bad nic, reminds me of some of my collection. But, what a save. Well done.
You belong in the VW restoration Hall of Fame!!
Nice job looks good
Beautiful Bug❤👍
Well done. Its about the same amount of work i have to do on my 1940 Opel Kadett cabrio-limousine.
Wow She did Have A tad Bit of Rust , Nice and Origional tho Glad ya saved her Good Job
Nice work!
The young man, and one day he told him what the old man had done .. 😭
Beautiful and well done congratulations

Incredible! I need to do my rare VW Beetle 1600GT model. 1 year only model in 1973
So nice!
Thank you! 😊
That's a handsome bug !! And well done. 👍😀
Was that originally jade or mango green ?
I am restoring a 60! Mine is not a rag though. It’s in pretty decent shape considering it’s been living in Illinois all these years.
looks great
Looks great. congratulations.
The awful music doesn't go well with the beautiful work you have done!
kinda limited on the music i can use from youtube. IF I could use anything it would be much better.
In the direction and options you took, I say you did an excellent job restoring it. Would have love to have seen the floor pan and heater channels repaired in more detail though.
Q: Since it is a Rag Top, does it have the extra support rails under the heater channels and floor pan that convertables have?
yea the footage was pretty bad Had to work with what I had. Better at filming now then back then. Unfortunately the footage of the heater channels was not good or missing.
Dig your videos and your cars man
Looks great guy .Any ideas how much you have in it? Thanks for saving them .We all dream of a ragtop
well I bought the car for 2300 in 600 miles from home so i had to have it shipped. The donor car was almost free. came with motor and trans and back half. I had to buy the rear apron got a deal on that. I already had the heater channels I got them from a guy closing out his shop for like 35 bucks new. Normally I would have been close to 11 or 12 grand in it but I am in it much less probably like 7 or 8 grand all together. that was with what I spent on the upholstery and super rare accessories. The accessories alone were about 2 grand. I had the tail lights too.
60 Bug - “ I have lots of rust “ Bucket truck - “ Hold my beer... “
Que espetáculo de Fusca ficou no fim :)
Did you lap weld the inner arch repairs? How did you get them to look flush? Filler? Or did you butt weld them and I missed it
most were laps. or some butts then converted them into laps like the quarters. Fender wells were all laps. then tap or shrink them down so they could be filled. nothing really thick. all fills were less than 1/4 inch at the most. most were 1/8 max.
What an amazing job you have done on this car! One question: where you have done rows of spot welding, is that how auto factories do it also, then use seam sealer instead of continuous welding beads?
yea sort of but they pinch weld. so it is not even as strong as a spot weld. Continuous bead tends to crack right next to the weld because when you heat the metal it gets thinner right next to where it is welded. So spot welds hold better because there is more metal and they are staggered.
I noticed some of the blue paint on those interior back seat panels. I was surprised when I saw it. What color green is it called, exactly. I really like it. My 1st car was a 65 beetle with sunroof. Always liked the ragtop. It's so European 👍👍. This is the 3rd time I watched this video!!!
Sweet
Nice job that, considering what you started with....
Respekt
How did you polish the chrome trim pieces
You might call that severe us where you're from but I'm from Iowa and that is just starting to rust here
Mike excellent video! Where did you find the driver side mirror? I have looked for that style for years. Best looking side mirror because of the thick arm and swivel nut:-. Are those mirrors being reproduced? Thank you!
Do you know if the 1963 ragtop came with turn signal lights on the front fenders also? Thanks
yea I think they are the same as this one but I am not sure. around then they changed to the other style I dont remember what year. and they were closer to the hood.
Where'd you get the beige material for the running boards, and how much do they cost?
Great job but painting over rust in 8:05 just breaks my heart. Why not sanding it to bare metal first and then treating it with a rust remover ?
That WAS rust converter. it goes on blue then turns the rust black. I NEVER paint over rust. good observation.
I've used the same stuff before and it looks scary but it is in fact a primer.
Hell that would have been considered good condition here on the east coast! Spoiled west coasters. :P
What color paint? Very nice
Why did you not repaint the ash tray?
