They gave their lifes for our freedom. I will never forget. My mother was 7 years and the british soldiers saved her life because she was very ill (Rur). Thank you forever and RIP
Greetings from Brazil. That 18yo kid, at the and, break my heart. Could still alive today. RIP to all Soldiers.
Thanks for this video Chris. I' m often on this cemetry and think about what happened. With help of the allied forces we live in freedom in Europe and my thank is to all the soldiers on this cemetry. ❤
My Great Uncle is buried in this cemetery. was lucky to visit back in 2013. He was KIA 6th April 1945 aged 24 and served with the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
My father was in the 193rd Glider Infantry. That unit took such heavy casualties at the Bulge that what was left were combined in the 194th. At Varsity they dropped into a field with telephone poles designed to lop the wings off of gliders. That field had 88mm anti-aircraft guns nearby that leveled their guns for direct fire into the 194th. A lot of my father’s friends died there.
My father, a Canadian, grew up in Buckinghamshire and went to school in Oxfordshire. While almost his classmates who left Lord Williams' Grammar School in 1937 went into the "Ox and Bucks" (or more familiarly "the Obblies") either went into the bag or were killed during the campaign in Belgium and France and the victory campaign of '44 and '45. My father told me that only he and one other survived unscathed because they had joined the Royal Navy.
Amazing to see you in my home town of Kleve. Such unnecessary loss of life in a war that was already won/lost. Beautiful place though.
PS: There is also a German cemetery in a small town nearby, with forced laborers buried there as well. See if you wanna make a stop there.
So close to my city, Nijmegen!
Demut und Respekt überkommt einem an diesem Ort.
“Won” is correct.
@@mitchellhedden1978 Well, I think it's a valuable lesson to look it at it from the perspective of those who were sacrificed for nothing at all, while fighting just a few miles from their own homes. Don't get me wrong: Germany's defeat was the defeat of fascism and therefore a victory for mankind. That's precisely why the perspective of Wehrmacht soldiers is so tragic and powerful. It ought to teach us a lesson. Evil is part of mankind and you can end up on the wrong side of history quite quickly.
When you visit the Netherlands don't forget the War Museum in Overloon. It's placed near the site of a battle and has a large collection of everything you can think of that has to do with WW2.
There also is a cementery nearby.
I was there back in April and yes I visited the museum and the cemetery.
My father was in the 1st Battalion Black Watch he was 21 on 25th March 1945. He was there, he survived, went on to become an architect and died aged 81 in south west London. He didn’t discuss with me any of the details of the war. All he said was a number of toasts “to absent friends”.
Thank you Chris, for bringing these men's deeds to our attention and awakening our gratitude for all they gave, in giving all, that we may be here today. ❤️
Sir I love your personal stories of these valiant and brave men. You bring history to life. Keep up the GREAT WORK, and trust me, I will keep watching
I watch all of your videos, of all the different subjects and content. It is videos such as this one that I consider your best work. Your narrative and demeanor in sharing the information is top notch.
That means a lot. These videos are why I made this channel in the first place.
Very emotional watching this. My Uncle Reggie is buried here, KIA on 25th March 45. He was 19 serving with The 7 bn Black Watch. He went off to war at 17 & never returned. I am going to visit his grave in Feb. Your video is very touching. Thank you
I visited the cemetery as a soldier on remembrance Sunday in I think 1967. There are I believe twin brothers, both parachute regiment buried there.
Thank you for bringing these men's stories to us. It hits the heart. Amen, on the Bible verse.
My Great Uncle is buried here so thank god I can see the cemetery without paying for a plane ticket. My uncle was apart of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
(Edit I changed I to is)
What a beautiful final resting place. Really enjoyed the video Chris
Hi, Chris, as yesterday no words of mine can add anything , thank you so much for doing this.
One sad note so many died so near to the end of the European war. We should always remember that.
Ox and Bucks Light infantry were glider-bourne troops in 6th Airborne Division and the same unit which assaulted "pegasus bridge" on D-day; they were involved in Operation Varsity.
I love the music, production quality, content, and respectful attitude of presentation. Great job sir!
3:03 im watching this video on the 24th of march 2023. How Ironic. RIP❤
no way you were in my hometown, i drive past the cemetery quite often
love your channel and much love from Kleve!
Many of the Dambusters are buried here. You do have to be careful crossing to the cemetery from the car park.
Always something new to learn through these videos, great content!

Idea to make your life easier: have a Google forms linked in the description of videos so people can request topics for future videos. Although commenting on videos does appease the CZcams algorithm gods so maybe it’s better to keep requests in the comments? Not sure.
God broke the mold with that generation!
Quand j'y étais, je me souviens avoir vu aussi les tombes de soldats tchèques... je me trompe ?
Vary interesting
Jeus 8 times hit? damm, must have had god on his shoulders & his Andrenalin pumping high, while most men would have been downed fully after 3-4 hits, defintly a Lengdary guy to hear About, thank you for sharing this stuff. ( I am not very highly Religous but if see such stuff irl... I proably would become much more than I am in real life.)
All battles are a tragedy. This is no exception and may be even more tragic than most. It was so unnecessary. All those people could have lived nice long lives if not for this battle. Unless the final battle was the decisive battle, I feel like they’re usually meaningless loss of life.
VC not many of them awarded. Please do the Jeremy Clarkson video on the VC as it gives an idea on who gets awarded it. Thank you.
