So glad you did this, Alvin Lee ( and his band "Ten Years After" ) seem to be much overlooked. Alvin never seems to get a mention in Greatest Guitarists lists but for me he has to be at least included in the conversation. I have as much a prejudiced musical ear as everyone else and my goto guitar players all emerged from the glorious decade of the early sixties / early seventies from the UK, they are not necessarily the greatest but they were all pretty unique in their playing styles - Hank Marvin, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Peter Green, Paul Kossoff, Jimi Hendrix ( honorary Brit), David Gilmour, Alvin Lee, Albert Lee, Robert Fripp, Richard Thompon and I'm sure there are others that my aged brain has forgootton. Love your reactions you beautiful lady.

"Words can't describe the feelings..." words can't describe how deeply I agree. If aliens ever decide to contact us lowly humans, it'll be because of a song like The Bluest
Blues, not through some stupid speech by a politician. The aliens will land their mothership on the White House lawn and say, "Bring us your best blues singers & musicians...the men & women who have designed & perfected the guitar...maybe the surviving Beatles..." You know what I mean. If they ever decide to help out humanity, it'll be to save the music we create, not for our cruel instincts & our inbred stupidity.

Alan Young was the drummer that clearly impressed you so much. His work did really add a lot to the song. And George Harrison's slide guitar playing is in a way similar to what Duane Allman's slide guitar playing did for "Layla." In both cases the slide guitar work 'fit' perfectly and added so very much feeling and emotion. Being 67 years old something I really love is seeing people from later generations who are not familiar with the work of so many of the greatest of the greats of the past but then discover them and be so highly impressed by them. I always felt that Alvin Lee was very underrated. He had the misfortune to come along when there were so many extremely talented guitarists that while as good or better than many he got somewhat lost in the mix and overshadowed. Alvin had a wide variety of those who influenced him. When he was 12 years old he met the great Big Bill Broonzy. Like many Chuck Berry was a big influence. Jazz was also a big influence on Alvin, especially Django Reinhardt who as a child had his left had severely burned in a fire and could only play with three fingers, but relearned how to play the guitar and explored and created new harmonies and was fantastic. A lot went into 'the making of Alvin Lee' and it really shows in much of his work, especially in "The Bluest Blues."

Thank you so much for this reaction. I haven't seen any reactions to Alvin or 10 Years After other than I'd Like To Change the World and that's is a shame. The other reactors are missing out on some great music. Alvin is one of favorite guitarist and much like David Gilmour can make you feel every note. Thanks again!!

Alvin Lee was the best guitarist at Woodstock. The slide solos done in this song were done by George Harrison of the Beatles. Outstanding guitar work.

Alvin Lee has been one of my greatest influences to play the guitar..Not only was his versatility, speed, accuracy and clarity of sound legendary, but also as a composer he was a very humble person and (funny thing) the only one who accepted a watermelon from the public after his performance in Woodstock 69 .. RIP Alvin Lee . You rest among the Guitar Gods

One of the most incredibly gifted, finger fast guitarist of all-time. Alvin Lee was an incredible picker who's talent knew no bounderies. He played jazz & blues profitiently, and carried the same 3 nicknames his entire career, I.E., "Captain Speedfingers", "Fastest Guitar In The West", and my personal favorite "The Man Who Played Faster Than His Shadow."

So happy to see you like Alvin Lee's guitar. I remember buying this CD years ago, like 15 years ago in downtown Portland. I used to jam on this song on my guitar! His live performance at Woodstock is legendary!! I'm glad you like rock music, I owned 600 albums at one time. In the 90's.

That Slide Guitar was the work of ex Beatles legendary lead guitarist and successful solo artist "George Harrison" who was also a part of 1980s supergroup The Travelling Wilburys.
George Harrison and the Ten Years After guitarist Alvin Lee were neighbors in Henley-On-Thames and would frequently get together and play. In 1994, Lee put out a solo album called “I Hear You Rockin',” and George plays one of the bluesiest slide guitar solos ever on this tasty track.
